Brian, apologies for a late reply due to hols, to your your detailed thoughts and options for my locker lids. I take your point regarding reinforcing the edge of the rebated frame with stripwood, there is little spare space so far as I can judge available due to the upright framing around lip of the locker. I shall dismantle one lid first and make a decision once I have offered the frame to the lip ( if that makes sense). Certainly teak oil is preferable to varnish and it can be 'refreshed' during the season. Protecting the ply endgrain will be a major priority; some years ago I did cut back 3mm of the frame to epoxy in a hardwood lip to protect the exposed inboard edge of the trackmark.
PS I now have acquired some nicely-grained ply, all I need now is some warmer weather!
