Neil.. when did you last check your fuel system for gunge?

If you have the standard fuel tank you have a drain on the underside: I always drained a litre or so out of the tank at the start of the season, usually I found about one third of a litre of water and gunge. Then there's the water trap, have you cleaned that recently?

While Sula had the YSE8 this was always a pain in the butt but I found that only one union had to be undone to bleed any contamination, water sometimes demanded a repeat performance and the best prevention is bleeding the tank and cleaning the trap. It's as well to have as little water in the system as possible.

The fuel take off at the stopcock has a step spigot inside the tank to try and hold the crap away from the engine but it will overflow, agitation (WAVES) lets some through as well, so dont just remove the fuel pipe and drain , you leave the rubbish in the tank even if you drain it completely.

The tank drain proper (just a bolt and washer probably) is flush with the bottom of the tank and it lets all the crap comes out.
