you didnt describe the cracking Mark, if you have an Anstey trapper and its horshoe shaped its caused by the balsa spacers directly under the cracks. just open the crack up enough to take gel coat and fill, dont forget to wax it afterwards or it will go black.

and before anyone tries to howl me down for saying SPACERS, not all trappers have a full balsa core between the deck and the headlining Sula has 6in squares of balsa placed pretty randomely
