you didnt mentionm that you can also get slop in the rudder/tiller retaining bolt housing in the top of the rudder stock Nick

Sula had that a while ago which gave about 15 deg of dead movement. The cure is to remove the rudder and get a new sleeve welded in to the rudder stock, along with a new bolt
