Hi Paul,

I have exactly the same anti fouling problem and have never found a solution. The barnacles come off a lot easier than if you don't bother to anti foul. Other lift keel boats on drying moorings on the Medway have the same experience. I read a few years back that the black colour is the result of a reaction between copper in the anti foul and sulphur in the mud. Bilge keelers don't suffer because there is no contact.

I have never got round to it but anti foul for aluminium hulls should be copper free so that formula may do the trick. I bought a job lot of copper based the last time the formula rules were changed and am still working my way through it.

Re resting the Hydraulics over the winter I have always let the pressure off and that seems to be fine
