Subject: skin fittings - a warning

With Star Trapper ashore I was polishing the hull by hand. There were two plastic skin fittings just above the water line on the starboard quarter. One was the bilge pump outlet & the other the gas bottle locker drain. The flange on the former literally fell off as I touched it. The inner fitting, accessible through an access panel from the rear of the cockpit easily pulled away. If this had given way in any sort of a seaway does not bear thinking about. I have used the past tense as both now replaced with bronze. A similar fitting draining the anchor locker was changed a few years ago.

Worth checking!
