The blade needs to be matched to the engine more than the boat.

The only consideration for the boat is the diameter of prop you can get away with, that then decides the pitch to achieve a match with the engine.

Because the 500/501/28 were all designed to be used with low power petrol engines there isn't much space for the prop, that's why they have to have such a square pitch.
