I had the same idea of changing to all rope but after 1/2 season have bitthe bullet and gone back to wire splice as I found that I could not get the tension right in all rope admittdley it was 6mm and 8mm might have been better but when I cranked on the backstay the rope would give and screw up the sett. with a wire/rope config I found things more stable, I tend to sail the boat like a dinghy and on the wind the actual forestay is slack with all weight taken by wire in headsail. this means I can also adjust the rake of the mast by approx 1-2 inches. depending on how hard I crank on the halyard. rightly or wrongly it works for me and I might be trying or worrying to much about something that only I seem to be worried about ----ho-hum such is the learning curve
