Nick, I had written a long (too long) reply to this message of yours and found myself, in the middle of a flowing rant and without warning, back in the main index page with all my text gone. This has happened much too often to me in this damn, primitive forum (there are such good forum models out there, if we only had somewhere to host it) and still I forget to use a text editor and copy/paste to the Reply Page. Grrrr.

About the picture - you may be right, the Stetson is a mirror image to the official Trapper logo and the upturned part of the brim should be blocked in but I have seen so many cases of artistic licence of that logo, in particular an elongation of the bandana as in the photo.

Interestingly in the brochure, an artist’s impression of the two keel types on offer, fin and bilge, has the hull logo and shows just such a reversed Stetson as on T500 455, so it could be official. I also hardly think it could be permanent enough if it was only painted and not moulded into the gel coat in some way.

About the moulds: I had some personal correspondence with Paul Anstey, son of Russel Anstey who founded Anstey Yachts and who himself ran Trapper Yachts under Deacons Boatyard ownership. It was he who informed me about the original mould from C&C and Trapper Yachts own later mould made from a strengthened Trapper 500 as a plug.

I had written a lot on that and of the Trapper history as told by Paul but I’m too pi$$ed off about losing it all that I just want to finish. Good for you and probably better not to mention anyway.

Best, Brian.
