Brad (and others),

The new forum could be kept as simple or as garbage filled as the site admin decides. I detest overful sites and to be frank, I can't see what a forum with low volume traffic such as this could find to clutter it up with. I will not host sites with advertising banners nor any other spam like features.

phpbb does use a cookie but only for recording your login time. As long as your browser is not closed down, you will remain logged on for 3600 (customisable) seconds with no activity. All posting data is maintained in server side cookies (sessions) - nothing else is written to your PC.

I have no idea why, but even www.trapper.8m.com creates a cookie?

Whether registration is required and how it is done (user approved via an email, or moderator approved manually), is entirely optional. The board can run with no registration at all if the site admin decides that's the way to go. Having a registration system allows the site admin to ban users - can't see how that would apply with this group, and also send out group emails.

Someone posted today whether we could move the archive across to the new board. The answer is yes, I think that would be possible with some caveats. All previous messages would then be searchable.

Nick mentioned he would like an articles posting feature. This is entirely possibly. Just create an articles forum and publish a short tutorial on how to do it. The site admin would have to manually load up any photos but this is a simple and quick process. It would require article posters to have Microsoft Word for Windows.

If you visit the site daily then I agree there is probably no problem with this forum. For me, I may visit once a month. I don't have the time to go through all new posts a page at a time which I would like to do - I have learnt a lot here.

So far, I feel their is no concensus; opinion is split between yes, no and indifferent. I will not keep the forum open if this remains the case - I don't want to split the group. It is strange there is no executive group for an association.

Tony
