"I have no idea why, but even www.trapper.8m.com creates a cookie?"

freeservers.com seems to do some sort of pop up style advertising that it did not do when we started. I've never been incredibly happy with the site but to give them their due they have provided us with free hosting for years now when others have fallen by the wayside. They also provided a template system that got me started with no knowledge whatsoever.

They have been quite reliable all this time, it must be 7/8 years at least, though I do find the site can be very slow even on broadband and sometimes seems to disappear altogether. Our website doesn't have that problem, but getting the main site working so I can do updates can be a pain at times.

"Nick mentioned he would like an articles posting feature"

I was thinking of the website itself, rather than the forum. I'd like the website to be updateable by the members so that they can put up news and pictures to keep the site more alive.

"It is strange there is no executive group for an association."

I started this because there wasn't one already. my aim was to provide a free resource for owners to interact through the net and arrange real meets out in the big wide world. It has achieved a lot of that but no doubt could do more.

In Scotland they hold regular meets and have a subscription, but although Scotland is a big country most of the members there are not widely spread.

Here in England/wales/Ireland we don't seem to have such a close grouping, though the solent rallies that have been held were well attended.

Although I organised two of them another one was organised entirely through the forum which is precisely how I hoped this thing would take off.

I'm personally dead against a membership fee and a load of admin stuff, I'd like to see a lively forum where people can interact and sort out anything like tech support, spares and meets all on their own and for free.

I recognise that this forum format isn't the best and I'm not against change. I'm certainly not running some sort of popularity contest among the members. I know what I have done and it really has been with fairly minimal input, I'm happy to continue to do that at that level or pass it on if people want more.

as for the features offered by this proposed alternative, well my vote certainly goes with a search feature. I also like it emailing you if somebody responds. I wasn't against the registration requirement as I thought it might help allay fears about spam but I suppose it isn't much of a check against that and I certainly wouldn't want to put anyone off.

I do want to keep email addresses shown because otherwise we will lose the ability for people to organise things themselves.

Lets have some more feedback to see what people want and then I can go for the consensus (though you are stuck with a benevolent dictator style of management here)
