Hi Mary & Henry,

Azurian sits on soft mud on a drying mooring all the time - no problems and the bulb goes right in. I have tried to avoid drying right out when sleeping aboard over night. I did once misjudge it just off the Eastern end of Canvey Island in the channel up to Benfleet. I can tell you from experience the ground is hard there and I was surprised at the angle of heel - fairly uncomfortable and I was pleased to hear the tide returning. I don't think there is too much risk of damage if you are not on rocky or stony ground - can you be sure.

Azurian sits on the keel on a trailer over winter with the keel pinned up - there is a load on the pin but this is only the total weight less the 1000 lbs of ballast so the pin seems to fare OK and the hull is supported in part by pads - presumably equivalent to the mud. Do you really want to dry right out? If the mud is soft it is probably too goey to get ashore in any state any one will want to see you and may be dangerous. With the keel up we need very little water to stay afloat.
