I'm sure you are right Nick, that the smaller engine would be adequate; after all, the 28 is a lighter boat (2157kg vs 2722kg) with less storage to load up with useless junk - for example, I have severe anchoritis, a crazy collection from years of not being able to get rid of what "may come in useful sometime". I have extra water tanks and a larger fuel tank.
I suspect the 28, because she is not ideal for accommodation (I'm going to get lynched for that), is not cruised so much and may be less encumbered. Probably, she also has finer lines, which may make her easier to drive through the water.
