sea water is extremely hard. just think of all the things they drag up from the bottom which are covered in accretions, thats mostly limescale

and the blocked waterways in raw water cooled engines ...NOT salt, limescale again and before anyone argue'e SALT DONT FIZZ LIKE LIMESCALE WHEN ITS IN CONTACT WITH ACID! did you ever see a sea shell dissolve in sea water?
