Hi Mate,

I take it this is the Traper 300 up in Ipswich Marina, being sold by Opal Marine. I had a look at her over the summer and even went so far as to have a survey done - then I ran a mile. Now, this was last summer and the problems may have been rectified by now. Also, folks here will be able to give a far better idea on how much some of the issues may take to fix:

1) Rudder - it was saturated with water (the surveyor punched a small hole and water poured out for over an hour). He said it would need to be split, dried out and re-bonded.

2) Keel - Not 100% sure, but it looked like it had taken a nasty knock some time in the past. Rear section was buckled and the forward section had been filled with 'something'

Our surveyor deemed her 'unseaworthy' and we got our deposit back. We got some bad vibes, the boat had been used for racing (i.e. pushed hard) and it failed the survey. Acceding to our surveyor, Moonslip would be OK for a bunch of lads heading to Ostend and back for a booze cruise, but perhaps not so good for a family.

Of course, this is based on last summer and on their asking price. Should you be able to knock the price down substantially (or they've made good the defects) then it might be a more attractive option.

Just my 2p worth...
