I think a fridge is much more demanding than the autohelm Brian, especially if it is a whatever you call it plate rather than a compressor.

I think it likely you have it too far forward. I don't have a 501 so I can't advise you where it would have been. We have a frame affixed to the underside of the tiller to present the hinge point at the right hieght.

I used the Navico on the way down to Cornwall last year and it packed up half way there. I got my money back and haven't replaced it yet.

Seemed an excellent unit though, just a reliability problem. As with all electronics though, they tend to fail in early life or go on forever.
