Subject: Received a nice email from Mr. Otto Carl with a pic and story that is interesting. Thanks for sending it in!

"Do you recognize the person in the attached picture? Yep, it’s the “DUDE”. I believe this picture was taken in early 1962 in Victoria. We were Seniors in high school. The truck was my Dad’s 1954 Ford. In the back is Eddie’s Triumph Motorcycle. The car being towed is Bruce Wilson’s 1932 Ford coupe. It was powered by a 265 C. I. Chevy engine (pretty well stock), 3 speed transmission, don’t remember what kind of rear end, street tires (no money for slicks), and homemade headers. The car ran in the C Altered Class, I think. We left Houston on Saturday mornings headed for San Antonio and the “Drag Strip”. We traveled the “old road” because there was no IH 10 back in the steam engine days. Three of us road in the front of the truck and 2 in the back with the bike, a bottle jack, and a few tools. If we went thru rain the guys in the back got wet. Eddie raced the bike, Bruce raced the car, Johnny Morris, Ken Streeter, and myself, Otto Carl, were the pit crew. After the races were over in San Antonio on Saturday night we loaded the bike, hooked up the car, and headed for Victoria. Sometimes Eddie would test and tune the bike on the kick stand while we were traveling. Upon arrival in Victoria about daylight we would sleep an hour or two where ever, then race there Sunday on an old air strip. After the races were over there we headed for Houston, unloaded, and went to school on Monday. This was what we considered a GREAT weekend."

You have my permission to publish the picture and the story. I thought that you and the other Prostock Racers might enjoy a bit of history about one of your racers.

Sincerely.

Otto Carl
