Received an inquiry today about having a TPSA event on Sunday, September 26th @ Houston Raceway Park (Baytown). We have a race scheduled @ Evadale on the 25th so it would be a double header weekend without requiring a bunch more travel. Nothing is written in stone yet, we just need some feedback on how many teams could/would attend to see if it's possible. Post here, give me a call, or I'll catch you @ HMP this Saturday.
Speaking of HMP, get those bad boys ready for our 1st event of the season in Houston. Dean and the crew said check your rear ends and tranny's 'cause the "hook" will be there for us and the PRO MODS. Gonna be a great show!
Randy the "Dandy" Elliott and his sidekick Austin will be in the house Saturday overseeing tech and weighing. Also, Gary Lidiak will be on hand. They'll have some extra hands this weekend at HMP as the folks from Bumbera's Performance will be helping @ the TPSA scales. Located on HWY 6 at Memorial in West Houston, Texas, Bumbera's Performance Associates will provide all of your performance needs. From racing fuel, to nitrous, to tuning a performance street car or building a turn key drag racing machine Bumbera's is the place to go for "Bad Fast" Performance. 281-493-9300 is the number to call. We appreciate the Bumbera crew for coming out and supporting the TPSA!
Several of the TPSA teams plan to test Friday nite @ HMP so come on out and join 'em. ***Remember, gates open @ 4pm Saturday and the place will be packed, so it's best to be there early... 3-3:30pm usually will put you toward the front of the line.*** Get 'em locked and loaded 'cause it's gonna be a battle on the bayou! See ya in the lanes.

QUOTE FROM THE ARDL WEB SITE:
"Taylor, an automotive repair shop owner from Dickinson, Texas, covered the VMP eighth mile with his supercharged 2005 Corvette in 3.60 seconds at 208.71 mph to edge the 3.64 at 210.97 combination by His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar for the top spot."
Our very own "Bad" Billy Stocklin was at the keyboard for the record setting pass by the "Madman" and the Taylor Brothers. Congrats to the team for settin' the record and keep up the good work!
I wanted to pass along this info about on & off track race car insurance. It's something we don't spend a bunch of time thinking about but accidents, theft, and "stuff" happens. They offer "roller" & "complete" coverage in amounts up to $100K. I have an app in now but don't have specific rate details... everything I hear it's reasonably priced. I've known of Bill Lutz for a few years and he's reputable to the best of my knowledge... he's also a long time racer. I've included a link to his business as well as a link to the YELLOW BULLET forum where many questions are answered. Take a few minutes and check this out. I personally am "insurance poor", but with race car thefts up dramatically everywhere in the US, and all of the coverage this policy provides, it makes sense to take a look. -- DH, 05/24/10 12:47pm
You can go to the thread below and get 99% of your questions answered and info you need.
If you're interested in a quote or sample policy the best way is to email raceins@coiservices.com and they'll get it out to you. The website is www.coiservices.com and you can contact Bill Lutz @ 614-861-3100 or cell 614-989-4168.
Keep Donald "the Boxman" Hughes in your thoughts & prayers. He had surgery to repair a herniated disk that had ruptured and wrapped around the nerve. He had been experiencing back pain for a few days and today it became so severe that HR took him to the hospital. They admitted him and got him to surgery within a few hours. The surgery was successful and Donald could get to come home as early as Tuesday. Get well soon, Donald! -- DH, 05/18/10 12:22am

*** EVADALE UPDATE***
Just got off the phone with Fred @ Evadale and a decision will be made about tomorrow's race by 2pm today. Please help me spead the word...I will not be able to personally call everyone. Thanks, -- DH, 05/14/10 11:01am

Couple of tech questions that have been asked in the past few days...
What style/type of carb is legal? The TPSA Rule page states: "All engine combinations are limited to a single 4 barrel carb", further described as "Stock 4500 Holley flange" , and "Throttle bore(s) limited to 2.250". The new generation "toilet" style carb (1 large butterfly/venturi) is excluded by rule as are any carbs that don't meet the existing criteria.
Exactly what tranny combos are legal? The rules say "Powerglide (2 speed) based factory type automobile automatic transmission required", "Aftermarket cases and/or tailhousings are allowed". Transmission, gearsets, case, & tailhousing MUST be based on a powerglide only. This eliminates any trans that does not use a P/G case, whether stock or aftermarket.
Got this spyshot from HMP Saturday nite. This is the newest entry from the "PigPen" and word is testing went very well. Look for Roy and all of the TPSA hitters next Saturday, May 15th, @ Evadale. -- ., 05/ 9/10 4:43pm

It was a dark and stormy nite…no wait, that’s the opening of another classic tale, not this one. With a dismal weather forecast of 60-90% chance of rain for at least a week prior to the Outlaw Doorslammer Spring Nationals, not many folks gave it much of a chance, this reporter included. A quick call to Big Don Ellison, the promoter, early last week, revealed his forecast. Don said “the weather will be fine, tell ‘em to come on out”. Now the promoter/ track owner forecasting favorable weather is nothing new…. Remember last year when it was raining all around Evadale and Mr. Bruce was riding around guaranteeing it wasn’t gonna rain? Well Mr. Bruce was right and as it turned out, so was Big Don.
A full day of T&T was scheduled for Friday beginning around 2pm and several TPSA teams were there when the gate opened. With tornado warnings and severe weather just a few miles away, the test session was put on hold for a few hours. When the lanes opened, the teams were treated to an outstanding track surface and very pleasant temperatures even though the DA was 3500’ or so. There was still ample time to test and if you wanted 3-4 hits, or more, you got ‘em. Celebrities were everywhere in the pits, TPSA sponsor Mike Brink of Brink Racecraft, Ford guru Marvin Shaw, David & Bo Nickens, and many other notables were in attendance. DH’s long time friend & crewman, Aaron Cole, drove up from Galveston to lend a hand and Larry & Rob were there to help or just keep the pit area interesting…
A large thunderstorm moved through the track somewhere around 5 am Saturday and when we looked outside, the pits had standing water in spots. The projected start time of 10:30am was out of the question, but as soon as the track was re-prepped and the pits dried, the event was back on! There would be no further weather delays and the complete event was completed just after midnite. Big Don’s forecast proved accurate, and his decision to bring in the ADRL “pros” ( Bubba Corzine Competition Director, Letha Corzine Tower & Timing, and Mike Fulfer Tech & staging lanes) responsible for conducting the ADRL races, and superstar announcer Lynn Nickerson was instrumental in keeping the lanes moving and stayin’ to a tight schedule.
Thirteen teams had made the tow to the Concrete Palace, Dallas Raceway. After both rounds of qualifying (and a couple of “xtra” hits if you took advantage of ‘em) Larry Pearce (4.650 @ 150.03) just edged out Joe Pigford (4.651 @150.63) for the top spot with Otwell, Nickens, Crownover, and R Pigford rounding out the top half. 7-13 were Lance Abbott, Aaron Hubbard, Eddie Conrad, Donald Hughes, Rick Hanson, Junior Wilkerson (congrats to the Robinson/Wilkerson team for their 1st 4 second time slip!), and Randy Elliott. Elliott and his crew Austin, would withdraw to devote their time to tech & scale duty and a 12 car field was set. Thanks to you both for your effort and dedication!
1st Round…7:40pm
The Talley/Nickens team Camaro, with the “Budman” Buddy Nickens in the chair, rolls into the water box alongside Donald “the Boxman” Hughes. The Talley team has been making steady performance improvements this season and Hughes knew he needed to push the tree. At the hit the “Boxman” is .009 red sending Nickens’ 4.70 @ 145 into round 2. Ahhh, the unpredictability of the random draw. #1 qualifier and current Champ Pearce in his gorgeous new GXP with NRC/Slick Rick power would face off with the #2 qualifier and ’08 champ, Joe Pigford, aka “Boss Hog” and his record holding R-M bullet. A great race from the drop of the tree with “Pig” out first and the win lite with a 4.62 @ 151.48 to Larry’s 4.64 149.98. This was Larry’s first event with the new GXP and it is a looker! The early performance indicates the Pigpen (R-M) vs Pearce, Otwell, Cowger (NRC) rivalry is alive and well and the action will intensify as the season rolls on. 3rd pair had two of the “Hill Country Boyz“ and H-E-B teammates face off as Clint Crownover and Aaron Hubbard got ready to stage. Hubbard was back in Ol’ Blue fresh off the “unicycle” competition back in March. Blue looked to be fully recovered from the incident and although Crownover’s new Houston Engine & Balancing engine held a performance advantage, we always settle it on the track. Clint was out first and never looked back as he used a .019rt, 4.69 @148 to turn back Hubbard’s 4.81 @ 144. Next out was the current points leader, Roy Pigford. The Robinson/Wilkerson team’s Firebird with Steve Schmidt power was waiting in the other lane. Roy had been struggling in TT’s and qualifying but you can never count any of the “Pigpen” out. At the green, Roy held a slight rt advantage and would be back for round 2 with a 4.76 @ 146 over Junior Robinson’s 4.96 @ 139. The R/W team had recorded their first 4 second run in qualifying and the new team continues to improve at each event. Great job guys! Lance Abbott in the truck lined up with the Hanson family’s ‘Vette, powered by a Marvin Shaw bullet with Marc Knarik heads, driven by Rick this week. Rick showed one of the elder statesmen can still get the job done on the tree when he left first, .008 to .018 but he couldn’t hold off the truck’s big end charge and Lance & Kenneth’s Abbott Racing Head entry would move on with a 4.78 @ 144 over Rick’s 4.86 @142.The final pair of the round featured Team O’s boss, Richard Otwell vs the Winscott/Conrad team with Eddie the “Dude” at the controls. Team O had been battling tranny issues all weekend and it bit ‘em once more as Richard’s .200rt would not get there against the “Dude’s” .005rt 4.78 @ 144. Richard’s slip read 4.66 @ 149.88.
2nd Round…9:53pm
Crownover was up first and he had a tough draw. Joe Pigford was in the other lane and had run low et of the event in the 1st Round. So far, at this event, Clint had been driving with the acumen of a seasoned veteran, belying the fact he is still a rookie in terms of the number of laps he’s made in his short drag racing career. Burnouts complete, they stage, Clint’s out first by a ton… everyone looks to see if tree’s “green” and it is! Can “Pig” and his Reher-Morrison monster make up the difference? Good clean passes in both lanes; Win lite in the Cavalier’s lane, Crownover’s holeshot 4.71 @ 148 goes to the semi’s. Joe’s 4.59 @ 151 would be the top et and mph for the event but just didn’t turn on the win lite. Clint said the Pig's GXP was coming hard and blew past him just past the traps. Up next was the “Dude” with his Conrad Racing Engine in the frame rails vs Roy Pigford. No drama’s in staging and clean passes in both lanes. Roy would be in the semi’s with a 4.73 @ 147.34 lap. Team Winscott/ Conrad posted a close 4.78 @145. The last pair of this round pitted Abbott against Nickens. This time “Quickdraw” Abbott was out first with a .003rt but fell short at the stripe, 4.78 @ 145 to Nickens’4.67 @ 149.
Semi’s….11:05pm
Two of the three finalists have never been to a final. Would we have an all “first time” run for the money? Talley/Nickens drew the bye, clicked it off early and they’d be there, but who would join’em? Crownover and R Pigford were closely matched this weekend but did Roy’s crew find and fix the problems that had plagued them all weekend? Burnouts completed and it looked like the gremlins had jumped into Clint’s lane! Before he could backup from the burnout, the engine died and there was a flash fire under the Cavalier! Clint’s crew, the track staff, and even members of Pigford’s team were on their way to help, but Clint got ‘er refired, the flame went out, he backed up, and several folks looked under the car for problems. Nothing was found, and Clint and Roy eased into the beams. Roy was uncharacteristically early and left the “red” hanging sending Clint to his first final, and to his first “Bounty Hunter”award presented by Team O Motorsports. The award is presented to the team eliminates the current points leader.
During prep for the final, the Crownover crew which included Chris Shortridge at the helm, found a seeping carb fuel line fitting, repaired it, and thought they had the problem fixed. It was business as usual over in the Talley/Nickens pit and the final promised to be a dandy.
Final…12:11am
The final round is the only round in which the teams can choose to either random draw or flip for lane. They each wanted the right lane and agreed to flip. Crownover won the toss but the “Budman” had a plan. He says “how ‘bout we arm wrestle for it”? With perfect comedic timing, Clint hesitated just a moment, smiled, and said “OK”. It was a hoot and everyone had a good laugh. For those that may not know, Clint will still unload an 18 wheeler load of hay by himself just for fun….and to show he can still do it. Take a real close look at the forearms, wrists, and shoulders on this guy before you call him out…LOL!
Back to the race…. they each roll through the water, perform long smoky burnouts, back up, and prepare to stage. If Clint has a problem it isn’t showin’ yet. Tree flashes, and once again, Clint has a sizeable lead, .022 to “Budman’s” .078. In the previous rounds Buddy had run as quick as a .67 but Clint’s .056 starting line advantage would make his previous .71’s a winner. But it was over at half track as Clint’s ride began to slow and the Budman would use his Nickens Bros. power to post a 4.68 @ 149 to take the Talley/Nickens team to their first winners circle. Both of these teams have been working hard to improve their programs and the Crownovers have been gaining valuable experience with each lap. It’s great to see these team’s efforts pay off. Congrats to Buddy and Clint and to all of the TPSA teams that participated. On a side note, engine builders have been mentioned so it’s important to recognize that each of the finalists chose Slick Rick cylinder heads as part of their update program over the winter.
Big Don and Dallas Raceway plan to make this an annual event. As mentioned before, from the all star ADRL race administration team of Bubba & Letha Corzine, and Mike Fulfer; the Concrete Palace’s own Sammy Lattner and his entire staff, to promoter Big Don and Tracey and the incredible facility that is Dallas Raceway… it just doesn’t get any better. The TPSA appreciates the opportunity to be part of the Outlaw Doorslammer Spring Nationals and we look forward to next year!

The 1st annual Outlaw Doorslammer Spring Nationals @ Dallas Raceway lived up to all of the pre race hype & expectations. Big Don promised the weather would hold, and if he ever gets tired of being at the racetrack, he's got a big future as a weather forecaster! Bottom line... no moisture during the entire event when race cars were scheduled to run. All of the scheduled classes were completed Saturday nite. Our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Big Don for including the TPSA in this race and to Bubba Corzine, Letha, Mike Fulfer, and some staff that took time off from their regular ADRL duties to help Don keep this event on schedule and running smoothly. Of course Sammy, Kenny, and all of the great staff @ the "Concrete Palace" have spoiled us with a tremendous racing surface each time we visit Dallas Raceway, and they did it again. If you weren't there, you wouldn't believe how great the track was prepped, and considering DA @ 3500ft+ during TNT friday, the cars were flying! If you missed this one... you missed an opportunity to be part of a world class event.
Reader's Digest Version...13 TPSA teams made the call and thumbed their collective noses at the 60% forcasted chance of rain. Randy Elliott brought the 'Vette out but parked it after TT's to donate his time to scale duty, some spot fuel checks, and some chassis clearance measuring. Austin lent a hand as well. This left 12 teams to decide the outcome of the second TPSA points race of the season. About the stroke of midnite, Buddy Nickens in the Talley/Nickens entry recorded the Win over Clint Crownover in the final. Roy Pigford was the semi finalist. Watch for pic's, and a complete race report tomorrow.
Thanks to each of the teams that showed up and Kay says you each deserve a gold star for takin' care of your registration early. Please remember to keep the Cowger family and C&W Racing in your prayers after the passing of Rick's father....
Since our next race is still a couple of weeks out I figured some of you might like some Hill Country pics. Some of you could care less, but this is for the folks that enjoy this time of year....LOL. We moved up here full time in 1995 and I've never seen the abundance of Bluebonnets & wildflowers like we have this year... they're everywhere in the Marble Falls, Burnet, Kingsland area. Ya'll should come up this way ASAP as they will likely die soon if we don't get some rain in the next few days. These pics are in our "front" yard in front of the shop. I have plenty more shots, but that might keep you from coming to see them for yourself...LOL.. -- DH, 04/14/10 1:55am
Very rare white Bluebonnets...some folks have never seen 'em!
Funeral Services -- Kevin Cowger, 05/ 2/10 3:18pm
Due to Rick Cowger's father passing away early friday morning, C&W Racing was unable to attend the Crandall event....Visitation will be Tuesday 5/4 5-8pm, Funeral Services Wednesday 5/5 3:00 pm, at Brookside Funeral Home (Eastex Freeway), for Earl Cowger...
Just got off the phone with Lil' H...says the local DFW forecast has just been reduced to 20% for both days and currently the skies are clear. The Hill Country Xpress is loaded up, hooked up, and fixin' to roll out and head north. Come on out, this promises to be one of the biggest events anywhere....Otwell says if there's any delays you can probably find a card game in his rig, the new guys say they'll be cooking, HR says she'll go do some shopping, there's always something fun goin' on so get there early. See ya in the lanes... -- DH, 04/30/10 9:30am

Ground Clearance for NHRA -- To those that it Concerns……., 04/16/10 1:19pm
I took the liberty of doing some investigating myself. I Emailed an NHRA tech and asked him what everyone in the pits is talking about (Ground Clearances). And this was his reply…………
“The rule on ground clearance is minimum 3” from the front of the car to 12” behind the center of the front spindle, no exceptions. This is for the timing equipment. The rest of the car has to have 2” of ground clearance except for the oil pan and headers. And If you have the oil pan at least 2 1/4” off the ground, you should be fine at any track.”
The Pine Valley race scheduled for April 10th has been rescheduled to October 23rd. The Hall's decision came after discussions with their spectators and local racers that revealed many were planning to attend the National event @ Baytown on that date. Regrettably, NHRA declined to reschedule.....LOL. This event will be the 2010 TPSA season Finale. Be sure to mark the new date on your calendar.
While you have your calendar handy, mark August 28th as the make up date for the rain out @ Evadale. Hopefully, mother nature will cooperate with us for the rest of the season.
Our next event is the Outlaw Doorslammer Nationals, April 30th-May 2nd at Dallas Raceway. Parking and time trials are available Friday, the TPSA race is scheduled for Satuday with Sunday reserved in the event of bad weather, or unexpected delays in the program. This event is gonna be huge with entries from across the US already confirmed!

Hard to believe, but the winter “vacation” is already history for the TPSA teams. No more silly season rumors, coffee shop bench racing, or message board chatter… it’s race time and the 2010 season kicked off at the “Concrete Palace”, aka Dallas Raceway, this past Saturday.
Friday nite was bracket nite and no test & tune was available, but by the time the gates closed there were already seven TPSA teams on the grounds. Sammy told the troops that he would have the track ready for action around 3pm if any of the teams wanted to get an extra hit or two in before the official qualifying sessions.
As expected, Sammy and the crew had the track in perfect condition the next day… so good in fact that a couple of the cars that made early hits found too much traction available. By the time official time trials started everyone had their basic setups figured out.
New cars, new paint, car swaps, new members, we had it all. Pearce’s NRC/Slick Rick Championship flagship Cavalier was now Back n Black, Otwell’s, also with NRC/Slick Rick under the hood, stunning, long anticipated, new GXP was in the house, the star of pre season testing, the Cowger/Wood Grand Am had a new “wrap” that really looks nice and a new Slick Rick intake for their NRC power, the “new guys” Robinson & Wilkerson were there in the pristine ‘Bird, the Abbott’s, Abbott's Racing Heads entry S-10, was there with new power and a host of other top secret changes, the Talley & Nickens team Camaro was sportin’ new Slick Rick heads, Hanson was present with the crowd favorite black Vette, also with new hp from Marvin Shaw/Marc Kanarik, Crownover was in the Cavalier with his new Houston Engine & Balancing entry with heads he purchased from Gene & Tommy Platt. Slick Rick had done a set of heads and intake for the Platt’s, but Gene’s accident has postponed the debut of their new ‘Vette so the heads were offered to Clint. Both Gene & Tommy were in attendance crewing for Donald Hughes. It was great to see Gene looking fit and recovered from his accident. The “PigPen” was back with fresh Reher-Morrison bullets in the GXP & Grand Am… the newest Stroupe GXP isn’t in the "PigPen" yet, the Winscott/Conrad’s, Conrad Racing Engines, GTO was ready to rock, Aaron Hubbard broke out Ol’ Blue for rare appearance, and the “Boxman” Donald Hughes' Baretta rounded out the 13 car field. Donald had Slick Rick build an intake over the winter and do some dyno work and he had picked up some hp as well.
After both rounds of qualifying were in the books it looked like this: J Pigford 4.57 @152.45, Roy Pigford 4.59 @ 151.46, R. Cowger 4.59 @ 151, L Pearce 4.63 @ 151.22, R Otwell 4.64 @ 150.48, B Nickens 4.65 @ 149.78, C Crownover 4.69 @149.28, L Abbott 4.72 @ 147.04, E Conrad 4.741 @ 145.45, D Hughes 4.749 @ 147.58, C Hanson 4.78 @144.09, A Hubbard 4.79 @144.35, Jr Wilkerson getting’ some seat time and making laps @ 5.13, 136.22.
1st round..NRC/Slick Rick teammates, Cowger & Otwell roll into the water. Otwell conducted the drawing for pairing so no conspiracy theory here…. Cowger moves first and outruns Otwell’s brand new ride with a 4.60 @ 150.95 to 4.61 @ 151.26 for Otwell and new crew chief Scott Benham. Otwell’s mph indicates there’s more under the hood for that team with a few more laps to tune the chassis. 2nd pair featured Crownover vs Wilkerson. This was the first event that Clint’s driven the Cavalier and as mentioned the Robinson/Wilkerson team is brand new to the TPSA. Wilkerson tattooed C3 on the tree but watched the win lite come on for Crownover’s 4.72 @ 149.07. The Robinson/Wilkerson team say they’ll run the whole season and gain some seat time and experience. Welcome aboard! Next pair was the ‘Kid” Lance Abbott vs the defending Champ, Larry Pearce. Pearce had trouble with the burnout, and staging his ride, and the end result was the “Kid” moving into the next round with a career best 4.68 @ 147.75. He also collected the “Bounty Hunter” reward for parking Pearce. J Pigford would face Eddie the “Dude” Conrad and needed all of his 4.557 @ 153.07 to overcome the “Dude’s” holeshot 4.71 @ 145.75. We always seem to have at least one round to provide some extra excitement or add some drama to our events. The next pair would provide both. Aaron Hubbard in Ol’ Blue was a car length out before Roy Pigford’s Grand Am flinched. Looked like Ol’ Blue had a chance… At the 60’ clock, just where the ‘Vette usually sets the front wheels down, the front end was still in the air & climbing, seriously climbing, until it was nearly vertical and at least three wheels were in the air! Aaron had no choice but to feather the throttle and try to set ‘er down as gently as possible. Pigford stormed by and posted a 4.56 @ 152.42. Aaron was fine, Ol’ Blue ain’t hurt too bad, and will be back. In the pits, the culprit was found.. the top wheelie bars had folded and sent Aaron skyward. We cleared the track, took a deep breath, and watched Hughes and Hanson stage ‘em up. The “Boxman” lived up to the hype one more time with a .011rt and took the stripe, 4.73 @ 147.89, his career best. This was also the Hanson’s first time out with the new combo and they too ran a personal best 4.79 @ 143.70. Buddy Nickens drew the bye and shut off to a 4.72 @ 129.22.
2nd Round.. Nickens & Crownover were the first pair. Should be a good race as the cars are fairly evenly matched. Nickens moves first and his 4.62 @ 150.53 rolls into the semi’s. Crownover’s 4.64 @149.76 kept him close as both drivers recorded personal bests on this pass. Next pair had two gunslingers facing off, the ”Kid” Abbott against the ol’ veteran “Boxman” Hughes. Hughes was .022 on the tree but Lance one upped him with a .013 and led the rest of the way with a 4.68 @ 147.55. Hughes showed he has some more et under the hood with a few more laps with a 147.89mph & 4.745 et. We already know the draw works as we saw teammates run each other 1st round, now it’s brother vs brother, Pig a Pig, so to speak. Joe had qualified better, and had a slight performance advantage, but that doesn’t turn on win lites and lil’ brother Roy advanced with a holeshot victory, 4.590 @153.55 to Joe’s 4.566 @ 152.68. Rick Cowger drew the bye and shut off early.
Semi’s.. Lance Abbott once again notched the gun belt with a .011 rt 4.70 @ 147.31 holeshot win over Nickens’ quicker, but later, 4.63 @ 150.31. Roy Pigford would face Rick Cowger to see who would face the “Kid” in the final. It was over before it started as Rick left the red bulb hangin’ with an oh so close -.001 red. Roy posted a 4.56 @ 152.12 to show the “Kid” what was comin’.
Finals.. They had met before and Lance’s rt had been the difference. This time Roy vowed revenge and there wasn’t much of a staging battle. Pigford’s Grand Am & Abbott’s S-10, affectionately known as the “Dump Truck” around the “PigPen”, staged up, the tree came down, green both sides, advantage to the “Kid” by not quite .02…would it be enough?? Win lite, Pigford’s side 4.586 @ 151.54 with Abbott’s scoreboard reading 4.694 @ 147.37. Thanks to all of the TPSA teams for an outstanding event...looks like 2k10 is gonna be a good 'un.
Thanks to Kenny, Sammy, the girls in the tower, and the entire staff of Dallas Raceway. We appreciate you allowing the TPSA to be a part of your 2010 program. Special thanks to all of the fans that came out and made the show possible. We also want to thank Randy Elliott and Austin for running the scales and helping with the race day duties and a tip of the cap to Big Don of racetalk39x.com for the live audio feed.
Results, & points page has been updated...watch for pics soon.
I was just lookin' at the "Results" from Crandall and if I counted right we had 8 cars out of our 13 that ran 60's or faster. I'm impressed by that and want to congratulate everybody for their hard work (and $$ spent ) over the winter. Hats off to everyone who ran a "personal best" at Crandall and I think there were a lot of them. I mean heck, we even had a "Dump Truck" run in the 60's!! Rumor is........ -- Pissed Off, 02/24/10 8:44pm
that a certain person is up to spreading rumors, AGAIN, that the NRC motors (maybe the R&M motors too-but not sure of them being specifically mentioned) are running an illegal camshaft diameters. Theres a simple solution, put up enough money and we (NRC) can pull it out at the track after a race, so that the journal size can be measured. Realize that this requires removal entire valvetrain and then reassembly, so don't bring chump change! This person has whined and spread the "cheating" rumors long enough! First it was delay boxes, then it was valve angle, then it was C44 fuel, then it was intake modifications, then it was carburetors, whats next? NRC and their Texas Pro Stock customers welcome the chance to disprove this rumor - so bring ample cash and take your pick of which motor you want to inspect the camshaft diameter size on - just beware your gonna be sick if you teardown the one with the diameter thats smaller than 55mm! Or, an alternative would be to quit spreading untrue rumors, apologize and worry about making power. Continuing to bash your competitors (other engine builders)does nothing to improve your respect. Names have been left off purposely, the parties know who they are. If you choose to protest a motor - we will do it in a private area with 1 TPSA representative of your choice to watch the teardown.
This '07 RJ car is on it's way to Texas and the TPSA with a new name on the door and window! The car is expected to arrive in a few days and the preliminary plan has the new team (with a familiar face) making a March 20th debut. Stay tuned for all of the details! -- ., 02/24/10 10:39pm

At the banquet, Richard & Kathy Otwell and their "Team O" Motorsports stepped up and funded the return of the "Bounty Hunter" program for 2010. The bounty is paid to the driver that defeats the current points leader during eliminations. For the opener @ Crandall, the defending champ, Larry Pearce will be considered the points leader, The bounty is $100 per event and is carried forward if the current "scoundrel" can't be brought it! Thanks again to Richard & Kathy! (especially Kathy...it was her check they paid with...LOL). -- ., 03/ 1/10 5:51pm
Joe Pigford returns this week from a vacation in New Zealand. Reports from "down under" are that the "Pig" got some valuable tips on manhunting from the native Maori's and is ready to reclaim his championship.
The sponsor of the Bounty Hunter program, Richard Otwell and his team, have made no bones about it...they want the Championship and the record in '10.
The C&W team, with crew chief Kevin Cowger, say they're the #1 contender after a stellar test session. Team boss, Derryl Wood says bring your hamburger money and come get some!
We're lookin' forward to the season opener this Saturday @ Dallas Raceway aka "the concrete palace". Make your plans to join us there!
Two days of testing at the lightning quick Dallas Raceway this Saturday & Sunday. Gates open @ 10 am each day. Click the flyer for the track's homepage for more info, directions, etc. Last chance to test before the season opener March 6th! -- ., 02/23/10 6:16pm

Astounding numbers (undisclosed) were reported using his (undisclosed) motor on (undisclosed) tires with a (undisclosed) gear at (undisclosed) weight. Also heard that "Team O" has just inked a deal with Dave Connolly to drive the (undisclosed) car this coming year. Team orders will be in effect when he faces RO or LP. Bulletin !!! This just in !!! RO and LP in concert with other (undisclosed) venture captilists have negotiated a trade with Bruton Smith whereby the RO led group acquired Mr. Smith's brand new Charlotte 4 lane racetrack in exchange for RO's Angleton track and a sack of "Magic Beans" !!! Seems the RO/LP co-op plans on doing extensive testing to the extent that 2 lanes just wasn't going to be enough !*&!! If you've been checking TPSA's 2010 tentative schedule the past few weeks, you'll notice a couple of changes so be sure to mark your calendar. IHRA & NHRA have released their revised shedules which affected some of our dates. In addition, Dallas Raceway is the new home for "Pinks" and that required them to make a small adjustment. Congrats to Kenny, Sammy & Dallas Raceway for securing that deal.
The 2010 Season will have the TPSA returning to Dallas Raceway (4 events), Evadale Raceway (3 events), Houston Motorsports Park (3 events), and we'll be returning to Pine Valley Raceway for 2 events. -- ., 11/ 4/09 10:29pm Saturday dawned bright, clear, and sunny just as advertised. Most of the TPSA teams had rolled in Friday nite and were in the midst of their pre race preparations when Sammy, the track manager, came around and told us the track would be ready for some hits about 3:30 if anyone wanted an early hit or two. All of the drivers were itchin' to get a lap under their belt before official qualifying and most got at least two in this "extra session". The track hooked like a bandit and was lazer smooth. Back in the pits, the teams all adjusted their setups to take advantage of the stellar conditions for the qualifiers. After the two qualifiers, Joe Pigford lead all comers with a 4.567@153.02, which reset the TPSA record that he had set at the previous race @ HMP. This would be indicative of what was to come...
1st Round...Roy Pigford had drawn Eddie Conrad driving the Winscott family GTO. The Winscott/Conrad crew has been working on a new bullet for the past several weeks, and after a last minute thrash that lasted into Saturday morning, they left Houston and headed North. They were rewarded for all of their hard work with a personal best 4.724 @ 146.73 during the 2nd qualifying session. Unfortunately, in the shut down area after that lap, the new bullet lost oil pressure, and they would be a no show for 1st round. Very promising outing for their first time out with this combo and watch for more from them next year. As a result, Roy Pigford was the recipient of a competition bye and eased into round 2. Like clockwork, Joe Pigford rolled into the water box beside Richard Otwell. Seems like these two have run each other first round at every race this year...of course they haven't but it sure seemed like deja vu all over again. Joe bettered his new record with a 4.564 that trailered Otwell's 4.642 @ 151.27. Otwell ended up in 5th place in the Championship chase for 2009 in just nine events. Next up was the West Texas Flash, Lance Abbott, squaring up with DH. "Quickdraw" was out first and ran a personal best 4.725 @ 146.64 to end Hubbard's 2009 season in 6th place. In the beams next was the new Champ, Larry Pearce, takin' on the "Boxman" Donald Hughes. Pearce's roll continued as he pulled the trigger first and moved into the next round with a 4.63 @151.48. Donald finishes this year at #7. The final pair was Rick Cowger in the C-W Racing entry who need to reach the semi-finals to finish in the top 5, and Clint Crownover. C3 hasn't been able to run a full schedule this year and a round win would guarantee him a spot in the top 10. When the smoke cleared, Cowger moved on and Crownover would end up finishing #10 for the year.
2nd Round...Pearce lined up with the S-10 of the Abbott's. Lance's father, Kenneth, has burned the midnite oil this year as well and the truck has responded by getting quicker and faster. Both would slow from their 1st round times but Larry's 4.673 would advance over Lance's 4.734. Lance is another competitor that wasn't able to made the full tour this year, but his win at Houston propelled him into the #9 spot. Next pair would empty the "Pig Pen" and the brothers would face each other. Joe was out first and never looked back as he ran his second .56 of eliminations, this time with a 9 to send Roy back to the pits. Roy only made nine races this year but would finish just behind brother Joe in the #3 slot. Cowger drew the bye which guaranteed him a #4 finish for the year with a spot in the semi's.
Semi's..Pigford would use yet another .56, this time with a new mph record, 153.20, to end the C-W team's 2009 attack. The Cowger/Wood team finished with their best showing ever in the year end standings @ #4. Meanwhile, Pearce drew the bye which promised the fans an exciting final round of the year with J Pig. The outgoing Champ, and current record holder Pigford, against the new 2009 Champ, Larry Pearce...Reher-Morrison vs. NRC/Slick Rick, Texas vs. A&M(that's another story...LOL), mano a mano, no holds barred, for all of the braggin' rights of the last win of '09 to hold 'em over 'till the 2010 season begins.
Finals...Pearce had been killin' the tree all day and his .007 looked sizeable against the "Pig's" .455 when the tree came down. With an amazing 1.018, Joe had nearly made up the deficit by the 60' cone! Pearce made a good clean run @ 4.641 151.78, but the win lite was already on in Pigford's lane. The scoreboard flashed another new record for the Pigford camp...4.546! The mph record he set in the semi's would stand at 153.20. Pig won the battle but lost the war this year, and the #1 will be replaced by #2 for next year. He and Pearce went back and forth all year and it was awesome to watch.
Thanks to all of the teams for an outstanding year and congratulations to all of the top ten for their accomplishments. Thanks again to the Kenny & Sandy Barnes, Sammy & Cindy Lattner, Joel the starter, and the entire crew of Dallas Raceway...the facility is very impressive! Can't forget all the youngsters that came out to Trick or Treat and all of the fans that came out. Hope to see ya'll next year!
McKenzie took some time out from Trick or Treating to help us out with the round pairings...
Madison & Payton made the TPSA trailer their "Haunt" long enough to draw pairings...
Amy was havin' a good time but we talked her into drawing one round...
Larry Pearce's 2009 Championship winning crew...
The Champ's NRC/Slick Rick bullet...
This is one bad hotrod...Joe Pigford & Crew's record setting GXP with Reher Morrison power.
Spoke with John Mandabach @ HMP this afternoon and the sun was shining with 90* temp and clear skies. He said it didn't rain Wednesday or today, and the water table isn't high enough to cause a problem even if a shower was to come Friday. While the forecast isn't perfect, we all know how unpredictable the weather can be in the Houston area. Bottom line, John said we're racin', the Abbott's are leaving in the am, the Hill Country Boyz plan to be on the road around 7pm, so load on up, come out Friday nite, hang out, bench race, or just catch some R&R....should be a really nice day Saturday afternoon and nite. -- ., 10/ 8/09 10:48pm
On a different note, Charlie Robinson (new member Charles Robinson's son) was good naturedly givin' ol DH the business @ Evadale. Seems young Charlie is convinced a member of his generation surely could wear out an ol grey beard like DH on the tree. While admittedly DH ain't as quick on the draw as he once was, he still considers himself average or so....so the issue of a practice tree throwdown was approached. Charlie said it shouldn't be much of a contest, a member of the video game brigade against someone older than black pepper...no offense of course. Anyway, rumor has it that the practice tree was the first thing packed in the 'Home and sometime this weekend the showdown is happenin'. Boxman, Quickdraw, and I'm sure some other hitters will want the winner...Stay Tuned!
**Final Point Standings, and the race result sheet from Dallas Raceway have been posted. Congratulations to Larry Pearce, NRC & Slick Rick for their 1st Championship!** -- race report coming soon..., 11/ 3/09 12:06am

You know how it is....a group of racers get together and after the bench racin's done, the talk turns to "if" the time and resources were available here's how the perfect race car would be built, or how the perfect transporter for the team would be acquired, and the classic topic "if I built a racetrack" is always good for some spirited discussion. Of course this ultimate track would have a premier racing surface, plenty of paved parking, easy access, good food, clean restrooms for the wife & kids, friendly & experienced staff, passionate management & owners. -- ., 11/ 2/09 1:04pm
I don't know if Dallas Raceway owners, Kenny & Sandy Barnes, attended any such sessions, but it's obvious they spent many hours planning, researching, designing, and building their dream track. Let's check the punch list..Premier racing surface?..1/4 mile with a ton of shutdown area, concrete from starting line to the last turnoff, full length concrete barriers, smooth as a baby's bottom, and "hook" that redefines the word. Add great lighting, drive on scales with an LED readout pointed at the racecar, and wide concrete return roads to complete the package. Ample Parking?..how about 15 acres of concrete pit area with excellent lighting & huge staging lanes. Easy Access?..12 miles south of I-20 on 175, and the exit leads to the pit gate. Good food?..the immaculate concession stand is overseen by Sandy and the food's great. Clean restrooms?..that's an understatement! The pictures you'll see below were taken Sunday morning after the race before they were cleaned! Oh, and just for good measure, hot & cold water, two showers with keypad locks that are wheelchair accessible, a/c and heat. The lights and exhaust fans in the shower are activated when you open the door. Friendly & experienced staff?..manager Sammy Lattner has many years in the drag racing game...well over a decade with NHRA, and many years with other facilities. Sammy's wife, Cindy, works in the tower controlling the timing system duties and her experience mirrors Sammy's as they have worked most of the same gigs together. Passionate owners?..Kenny & Sandy battled several challenges along the way but in the end, after five years of construction, the 112 acres that is Dallas Raceway, became a reality and the Concrete Palace was born in May of this year.
Everywhere you look the effort is visible. The trash drums are weighted so they don't blow around if its windy. Take it from someone that was awakened one nite by an an empty trash drum that had blown into the side of the motorhome during a rainstorm...it's a small detail but just another example of the total effort that went into this facility.
If you haven't been to Dallas Raceway "the Concrete Palace" you owe it to yourself to get there soon. Whether you're a spectator or racer, you'll be dazzled by the facility and the attention to every detail.

It also has a gameroom and an ATM is available!

Thanks again to Kenny & Sandy Barnes, Sammy & Cindy Lattner, Joel (the starter), and the entire crew @ Dallas Raceway. Our first visit was outstanding, and we hope to see you in 2010!
The TPSA made it's inaugural appearance at Dallas Raceway's 1st Annual Halloween Monster Drags and as soon as we rolled in the gate and took a quick look around, it was obvious the "Palace" would have no trouble living up to it's name. The attention to detail to the entire venue has to be seen to be fully appreciated. There will be a complete report with pic's (hopefully tomorrow), but the story is way too big to be tackled tonite. We extend our thanks to the fans & all the Halloween kids that came out, the Barnes family, Sammy Lattner, Cindy, and the entire crew @ Dallas Raceway.
Back to the race action....there were plenty of ghosts, goblins, witches, and all types of costumes roaming the pits as everyone was in the Halloween spirit. But at the end of the nite, newly crowned 2009 Champ, Larry Pearce would face the outgoing Champ, Joe Pigford for the event title and braggin' rights. En route to the final, Pigford had broken the TPSA et record (which he already owned) with a string of 4.56's and bracket like consistency. In the final he laid down a pass that will "haunt" the troops over the winter...a 4.546! He reset the mph record earlier in the semi's with @ 153.20. Pearce's .007rt 4.641 @ 151.78 couldn't stop the flyin' "Pig", and the party was on in the "Pig Pen". The Cowger/Wood team finished as the semi-finalist. Congratulations to them and all of the teams and crewmembers that recorded simply outstanding performances... and most recorded personal bests @ the "Palace"! More of that story later.
The complete race report will be combined with a 2009 Season re-cap and it too will be lengthy. Watch here for all of the details and plenty of pics after the track story is posted. Look for the final points standings and the race result page to be posted by mid afternoon tomorrow.

Pig Pen runs wild -- Team "O", 11/ 1/09 2:44pm
Just parked the rig and wanted to be the first to congratulate the Pigford camp on their stellar performance for the past few races. Ya'll have definitelt set the bar high and given us a nice big target to shoot for. The final pass was simply bad to the bone. For those that don't know joe's incrementals were (recalling from memory here) 1.018 60' - 2.93 330' - 4.546 @ 153.? All we can say is thats haulin the mail and I guess we have to get the sticker remover out for the trailer. Big thanks to NRC, Slick Rick, Larry Pearce, C&W racing - and all those that helped this year - we'll be back. Anyone wanna test tonight?? HMP is open - LOL!
My oh my, if you're a drag racer it doesn't get any better than this! It's Halloween and perfect weather for the TPSA debut @ Dallas Raceway, "the concrete palace". Now you all know I'm not a bettin' man...but I'd lose a Whataburger and a shake if somebody doesn't bring home a brand new TPSA record after Saturday. Rumor is when Otwell saw the weather forecast he changed his plans so he could be there to take advantage of what is likely to be the best conditions of the year. Will it be Team Pig with their record holding Reher-Morrison power, or how 'bout Team NRC/Slick Rick with the new Champ Pearce, with Otwell and Cowger riding shotgun? Conrad's been burning the midnite oil on a new bullet and the West Texas Flash, Lance Abbott, says hold on, I won the last race! Will it be the last ride in the 'Bird for Crownover, or Hughes in the Baretta....rumor has it they could both be in a different car in 2010. Get there early for the best seats...it's the 2009 Season Finale...you don't want to miss this one!
Ok floks I saved the best for last...The Rest of the Story......Hubbard's Fashion Statement....Hubbard is gonna fire me after this one...lol see y'all Saturday at Dallas Raceway "The Concrete Palace" -- Wes Strom-NitroArt.com, 10/28/09 2:36am
Congrat,s to Lance&Ken Abbott on there win at the Houston race.It just goe,s to show money can,t buy everything especially in racing.Although I was laid up in the hospital with a staff infection in my big toe we were monitoring every round via cell phone. With all the heavy hitter,s there this is still what attract,s me to TPSA.When all is said and done we all go home having learned something to come back another day and be a better racer. This is what makes this assoc.great and attract's new people every year. -- Eddie Conrad, 10/17/09 12:34pm

Track rental at HMP tomorrow Friday Oct 16th!!! 9am to 5pm.... $200 a car -- Jason, 10/15/09 9:55am
We still need 3 or 4 more car for the track rental at HMP tomorrow. The track will be prepped and ready at 9am and we will have it till 5 pm. The cost is $200 a car and the weather looks perfect. High 80 low 60 and no rain. Please contact Jason at 713-299-4112 or Chad at 281-414-6770
They say a picture is worth 1000 words so here goes....simply an unbelievable event, no rain, near perfect atmospheric conditions, and great track prep yielded great results and personal best runs for several teams. It all starts with the Baker family, John Mandabach, and the staff @ HMP. Our sincere thanks for your efforts and your continuing support!
Dean Baker mans the waterbox
The Abbott's ran a personal best et en route to the win
Roy Pigford was in his 4th final in 8 races
Semi's...Larry Pearce fought chassis isues (notice the "tractor marks") but clinched the '09 Championship
-- ., 10/13/09 1:56am
Two time and defending Champion, Joe Pigford, tuner Billy Stocklin, Merv, Vernon, Mike, and all of the "Pig Pen" took full advantage of his Reher-Morrison power and the rare combination of air/track conditions and reset the record...4.5782 @ 152.59! He had run a 4.5955 @ 151.82 earlier...right out of the box! This pic is of Joe at the scales which were operated by Gary Lidiak & his sons, John Michael & Clayton of Lidiak Motorsports. Gary verified Joe's weight and signed the tech sheet. A fuel sample from the Pigford's record setting GXP was tested for specific gravity, color, and odor. The results revealed the fuel was VP C-25...the spec fuel for TPSA.
Team NRC/Slick Rick had a bitter sweet day. All three team cars, Otwell (driven @ HMP by Jeff Naiser), the Cowger/Wood entry, and new Champ, Pearce were set on "kill" trying to take full advantage of the conditions, be first in the '50's", and get the record. All struggled with chassis issues, but in his 1st round match up with "Pig", Pearce made his only clean run of the event. This pass clinched the Larry's and NRC/Slick Rick's first Championship.
The Talley/Nickens team has made big strides lately, and they too ran a personal best @ HMP.
A.D. Rigmaiden made his first TPSA outing with his new ride. Car looks awesome and sounds good but chassis man, David Bowie, wants to check a few things out before they turn 'er loose. A.D. had his sons Aaron & Addleton to keep him straight...LOL.
Donald "the Boxman" Hughes, HR, and Dyno made the tow. Hughes couldn't get by Roy Pigford 1st round, but was layin' the tree over...as usual.
Clint Crownover has all of the hay in the barn (for now) so he & wife Laurie, his Mom, and Lonnie were on hand. Rumor has some new HP in the works for C3 next year. C3 may be tellin' DH his time is limited in the Cavalier!
Aaron Hubbard was on hand, but couldn't talk DH out of the chair. His daughter, Alana, celebrated her 5th birthday earlier in the week and served as the "official" chip drawer for 1st round.
Interesting self portrait of Joe Golden of Hot Rod Gossip fame. Joe's always around HMP promoting events or just shootin' some pics of the action. You'll see some of Joe's work here....thanks Joe!
Mike Morgan, the founder of the TPSA was on hand to check out how his brainstorm was fairing. He gave favorable marks and we enjoyed having him around. Also, Randy Elliott & Austin came out to lend Boxman a hand, and Todd Bailey was on hand as well. Old friends Steve & Sharon Dallas were checkin' us out....maybe a TPSA car in their future?
Congratulations to the new Champ Larry Pearce, the new record holder Joe Pigford, and all of the teams for another outstanding event. Thanks also to Gary, John Michael, & Clayton Lidiak for the thankless job of running the scales. This is a tough job that no one wants yet all of the teams ask for it. Our thanks to everyone @ HMP & especially the fans for another great season and we're looking forward to 2010!
