You left out some guys that plan to have an impact on the way the TPSA "007: NO EXCUSES TOUR" turns out: Ashabranner, Conrad, Cowger/Wood, Crownover, Elliott, Hanson, A. Hubbard, Hughes, Naylor, Pearce, Rigmaiden, Staiger, Winscott, Williams, Worley, new comer Donalson later in the year, and hopefully Holcomb can make it back. The field should be much tighter with better overall racing than ever before. And just FYI, in pre season testing, DH (4 passes), Pigford (6-7 passes), and Otwell (3 passes) have each had to lift at least once with violent tire shake. It's not too hard to outrun someone who's idling down track.......LOL! March 10th @ Houston Motorsports Park will be entertaining.....hope to see ya there (NT) -- DH, 02/19/07 7:37pm

Keith Wells from Tennessee emailed a thank you to the guys that replied to his post on our board a few weeks back. Keith runs a 4.89 Index class over there and was looking for some info on the combo's that TPSA cars run; ie, converters, gear ratio's , etc. Several members responded to his questions, and as a result, he has lowered his 60' and 1/8 mile et's. Keith wishes they had a TPSA type class over there, but for now, he'll have to come to Texas to race heads up. He did leave an open invitation to come race the 4.89 deal with him and we might try to make one in '07 on an off weekend. Thanks for the note, Keith, and that's a nice ride you have.

- POP QUIZ -- QUESTIONAIRE, 02/13/07 4:25pm
Here you are in late rounds and the track starts to go away. Your at HMP in June. 10:00PM, 78 deg. 2752DA, .68 VP, 84% Humidity, Baro @ 28.7, track temp still hovering @ 95. You started first round at 6:45PM, 87 deg. 3349DA .52 VP 57% Humidity, Baro @ 28.7, track temp @125. Your 60ft has slipped from 1.07 in the first round to 1.085 in the last round and it has been 45 minutes since you last ran. This is the finals and you need the points. IF! you could only make ONE of the following adjustments, which would you choose. 1) Launch RPM, 2) Tire pressure 3) Rear shock settings. ?????
This is purely hypothetical and since no two cars react the same there is no right or wrong answer, but if it were YOU what would YOU do? Names can be withheld to protect the guilty.

Today, Friday January 12, 2007, Bucky left us for a better world where the always sun shines on race day and the tracks always bite...
Cancer finally got the better hand on Buckster after he had beaten it back twice in 20 years...he was a fighter til the end and died in peace with a TPSA shirt on...
Those who knoew Bucky will remember him as a fierce competitor and a friend to all. He would help you get your car ready to race even if he was to race you next round.
He was my friend and I will miss him terribly!

OK, Ms T, here's the real deal. Before scheduling the Midnite Madness @ SAR in July, the baby's bday had to be determined. Do you have any idea how tough it is to find a soothsayer, fortune teller, medicine man, tea leaf reader, psychic, and palm reader in beautiful downtown Burnet, Texas? Let's just say it ain't easy! After consulting with these experts (no need for a medical opinion, they just "practice medicine" anyway) the date was determined to be between July 7th and the 14th. Therefore, today we have scheduled the race for July 21st. We've done our part.....now we're just waiting on you and the little one to do yours...LOL. First race out with their new Platt Bros. Corvette results in a win in Top Sportsman for the Rutland family! Lance was behind the wheel of the 'vette, and the ol' man, Lyndon, made the finals in Top Dragster, but couldn't bring home the second win of the day for the Rutland Transmission team. Rumor has it they may be joining TPSA later in the year. Congratulations to Tammy, Lyndon, and Lance!

If DH leaves first you will still be last. A lot of guys had the HP to beat him last year but never steped up. You can't stare into the pretty lights or DH will be long gone........Again! ***...FOR THE RICHARD OTWELL FANS...***

Will the new sheriff be packin' twin carbs?? Even though that's what the picture shows, our field operatives indicate this bullet left with a Sniper intake and one carb! Naylor, Otwell, Pearce, and Pigford definitely have the best chassis' in the group (3 Cavaliers and a Grand AM), but use four different engine builders; Schmidt, Naiser, Conrad, and Reher-Morrison, respectively. Will these guys dominate when the dust settles, or will one of the new shooters or crafty ol' timers be left standin'?? Be there, March 10th, at Houston Motorsports Park when the first shots are fired, and to see who flinches first.
(NT) -- No Dyno Sheet available......., 02/ 1/07 7:50pm
I think ole Worley also has one of the best chassis` also! Make that 5 Grand am Cavalier combo`s. (NT) -- Jim, 02/ 1/07 9:01pm
Did Otwell really make 1148 with 1 carb?or was that with the 2X4 setup? (NT) -- DYNO- MITE, 02/ 1/07 9:33pm
**Math 101**
A 2400# car, runs 4.77 @ 145mph(1/8 mile). The ageless formula for hp derived from 1/4 mile et (wt x 200) divided by (et x et x et)=hp looks like this..2400x200 (480000) divided by 7.50 x 7.50 x 7.50 (421.875)=1137hp.
To convert 1/8 et to 1/4 et multilply by 1.57. To convert 1/4 et to 1/8 et, divide by 1.57.
Use (wt x 52) divided by (et x et x et) for hp based on 1/8 mile et...example; 2400x52 (124800) divided by 4.77 x 4.77 x 4.77 (108.53) =1149hp.
Or, (wt) x (mph/187 x mph/187 x mph/187) gives hp derived from 1/8 mile mph. Same example; 2400 x .7754 x .7754 x .7754 (.4662) calculates to 1118 hp. Pay close attention to the decimal point in this equation!
Based on my personal combination and experience, the formula based on mph is the most realistic. Remember, these formula's calculate how much hp was used to produce the et or mph achieved on that pass...not how much hp the engine actually makes.
Are they 100% accurate? (NT) -- Absolutely not, but fun to play with. I don't know how these equations compare to the software programs out there; ie, crew chief pro, quarter jr, etc., or DYNO's.....LOL. My dyno #'s are more conservative than the most frugal formula listed, but other dyno's might be happier...who knows? Have fun!, 02/ 2/07 12:23am
- Now if we are going to fire shots I aint coming, been in enough shoot outs, I know I'll flinch first. Heck when I hear a back fire I lay down. (NT) -- Mr.T, 02/ 1/07 8:02pm
- Ms.Cheerleader, you got anything to drive? (NT) -- I do., 02/ 2/07 1:06am
- Come on now Jeff, we just playing. (NT) -- Glad to see some spark on here., 02/ 2/07 1:22am
- What the heck is a "sheif" ?? (NT) -- Need to stay up on new terms!!, 02/ 2/07 8:15am
- Based on the first formula listed above, a car weight of 2500 #'s would need 1185HP to achieve the same 4.77 et. If you use the alleged 1148HP, and assuming it had two carbs and sheet metal manifold to make that HP, the required weight of 2500#'s would render the ET a 4.82. Seems a bit slow compared to others. (NT) -- Math 102, 02/ 2/07 8:58am

****2006 Championship Season Banquet*****

-- Thanks everybody for coming out in spite of the threat of bad weather......we had a great time, good food, met some new members, had over 80 folks in attendance, and closed down the "watering hole". More pics, stories, rumors, and gossip to come after I get some rest.......shoulda been there!, 01/14/07 11:07pm

Gary Lidiak of Lidiak Motorsports announced the "Treeman Challenge" and the "At the Stripe Challenge" for the 2007 Season, and made a nice contribution to the points fund.
The Lidiak Motorsports "Treeman Challenge" will award the best Reaction Time of the year (during eliminations, you do not have to win the round) with $500 cash and an award at the 2007 Banquet.
The Lidiak Motorsports "At the Stripe Challenge", also a season long contest, will award the winner of the closest round of competition (smallest margin of victory) with $500 cash and an award at the 2007 Banquet. TPSA racers do not have to sign up for these special programs, nor is there any charge to participate in them. Thanks to Gary and Lidiak Motorsports for your continued support of the TPSA! Look for his "hot" links on the Homepage and Website soon...
Richard Otwell's, Axiom Construction, will also be joining the ranks of TPSA sponsors for the 2007 Season. Thanks to Richard and all of the sponsors. It's shaping up to be a record breakin' season!

Sometimes we get emails regarding lost luggage, spouses, pets, etc., but tonight the one that touched my heart was the story of a little lost Cavalier. All he knows is he's getting a new engine from some where in Indiana, and he needs help finding his new owner 'cause someone named "special" can't find him! If you can help this little fellow find a place called "Bedrock" please call BR-549 collect.

I first met Bucky when we started the TPSA in 2001...Bucky was at our first race, He runnered up! Bucky was a supporter of the TPSA from the start.
In the short time I knew Bucky I have some really fun fond memories-good times....You really get to know some one well when you spend the night with them in Conrad's Toterhome at the race track a few times...LOL!!! I could go on & on about the times I had with Bucky.....He was a good friend and a great competitor...If Bucky beat you he was a gracious winner if he lost he always had his hand out with a hand shake and a "Good race, I'll get ya next time". And like John said he'd do anything to help you get to the starting line even if he was against you in the next round.....
BUCKY MY FRIEND YOU WILL BE MISSED!!!

- Goodbye to Mr. Excitement -- Mr. Big, 01/12/07 10:50pm
Bucky was one of the six racers we managed to get together at Sealy in November 2001 for our first TPSA race. If memory serves, he was runnerup to Danny Liebham. He was a joy to be around and never selfish with his opinion on just about anything. He will be missed.

New Spyshots from Faerman Racing Engines

Pieces are for Dave Donalson's (white Vega) new TPSA project set to debut in March. Dave will be at the Banquet this Saturday and you don't want to miss it either! -- agent 660, 01/10/07 12:27pm

TPSA has always enjoyed a wide variety of members; ol' has beens (LOL), 2nd generation drag racers, retired motocrossers, road racers et al, but newcomer Dave Donalson is unique not only for his choice of vehicle, but his background is equally unusual. Dave's Vega is undergoing some chassis/body renovations and he will utilize the services of Faerman Racing Engines for power. Dave and crew say they'll be ready for the TPSA season opener @ HMP on March 10th. Welcome aboard Dave, and we hope to see ya at the Banquet.

While it's not a new Cobalt or GTO (heck it's not even a Cavalier or Grand AM!) the driver of this antique is hoping for some round wins in '07. Santa dropped off the HE&B bullet that has won 3 TPSA championships between the frame rails and a TCI trans and converter prepped by Rutland Transmission. The team is very optimistic about the chassis performance gains made possible by the updates provided by Platt Bros Racing. Watch for these guys to be testing soon and if there's time, it might make it to a paint booth before the season starts..

- The rules page has been updated with some clarifications on head welding and modifications, intake/carb weight adjustments, and the required use of a powerglide based transmission. The head, and intake/carb rules were not changed, but were revised to be more specific regarding "gray" areas. The powerglide only rule was approved without any negative comments from the member body or potential new members that contacted us. If you have any questions or need further info, please contact me, Donald, Rick. or Eddie Conrad. Thanks...

- Congratulation's to the champ -- Conrad, 11/22/06 2:56pm
Would like to take this time to say congratulation's on wining the 2006 T.P.S.A. champonship to Mr.David Hubbard & family. It was truly a blast racing with you guy's this year and we hope to be able to do it again next year,.T.P.S.A. is truly a class act,and we enjoy all the racer's we have met envolved in this fine organization.
Would like to tell all the member's that David and my self have figured out a way to check the valve angle on the engines for 2007 without tearing the engine down.He is currently working on a way to randomly select a car to check. It will be fair, and the only thing it will envolve is pulling both valve covers.I am currently working on this tool and will have it ready for the first event.

Back in the mid 70's drag racing was a hot commodity and the Houston area was in the thick of things. You could race several times a week at the old Houston International (Dickinson) and Porter tracks and hone your skills either just for fun or use the laps for learning the intricacies of the sport.
In 1977, a high school student, with help from his parents, started racing a '65 Mustang. They raced as a family, most of the time at Porter, and the young driver adapted quickly. Upon his graduation in 1978, the parents made him a graduation present of a new GT 350 Mustang (pictured down the page). Boys being boys, the GT soon found it's way to Porter and before long his Dad had him park it in favor of a '69 Camaro race car. Seldom did a weekend go by without the family at Porter, racing, and the driver began to go rounds on a consistent basis. Later the '69 was replaced by a '68 Camaro and along with the bracket racing the family competed at a Super Gas race from time to time. But bracket racing is where the family belonged with Mom feeding everyone that came by their pits and Dad helping anyone who needed it. In 1981, the family acquired Bill Staley's Monza, and the kid had learned his craft well enough by then to earn the '83 and '84 Porter track championship. The Monza ran a best quarter mile et of 8.40 and they actually traded it for the roadster shown, then six months later, traded back for the Monza. Also, during this same time period, they tried a dragster, in which he recorded his personal best quarter mile et of 7.999 et at Green Valley Raceway. But he was a doorslammer guy and he raced the Monza until he "retired" to raise a family in '86 and pursue a career change.
2003 brought the old itch back and he bought a '69 Z28 that he enjoyed playing with on the street but it wasn't the same as being at the track. In 2004 he showed up with the red '02 Camaro chassis car that we would later see him run in TPSA. This year, a '00 Bickel Trans AM would join his long list of cars, and his current ride is by far the best and quickest car he's ever owned. On it's maiden voyage, it ran a 4.99 et eighth mile in TPSA trim.
By now you've probably figured out who the subject of this account is. Terry Ashabranner is still racing the way he started....with his family by his side and having a good time doing it. Sadly, the family lost Terry's Dad not long ago but his Mom carries on the tradition of feeding everyone and making sure everyone feels welcome. Mom was the driving force behind the "Root Beer Nationals" at HMP and if you weren't there you missed something special.
The pictures show a one week old Tiffany and her grandmother with yet another race car, a red, white, and blue Vega, the '68 Camaro, the Roadster, and his favorite, the Monza.
If you've got a story to tell or just want to trip down memory lane, email your pic's and story to info@texasprostock.com.

- Intercepted an email from HR that said she snapped this pic of Boxman's new ride in the front yard?? Can't tell from that angle if it's a GTO or Cobalt?! -- Does he look like he's stuck in the window and waving for help?
