***It wasn't the Saturn eclipse......and other ramblings from the top..***

-- DH, 11/14/06 8:53pm
Those of you who missed the "mine shaft" air quality at Houston Raceway Park last Saturday probably lost out on the best overall conditions of the year. A huge bracket turn out kept the track tight and sticky, and with the DA averaging 1500 ft., VP hovering at the 250 mark, sunny skies, low humidity, and temp's in the 60's, personal best ET's were guaranteed. Only three TPSA teams took advantage of the opportunity: Ashabranner, Hubbard, and Pigford. At the end of the day, Ashabranner had run a career best of 4.85 @ 142+, Hubbard a 4.73 @ 146+, and Pigford, with his new Reher Morrison piece, had bragging rights with a 4.71 @ 147+.
The antique and outdated et predicter that I use for air calculations showed the air in Baytown was .05 to .07 BETTER than the last race (Oct 14th) at HMP. Last month at HMP, Ashabranner ran a best of 4.93 @140.63, Hubbard 4.80 @ 143 and Pigford was running a different engine (actually the one DH had in the rails in Baytown) so a direct comparison can't be made. When we do the math, (based on air conditions alone), Mr T ran .08 faster, and DH (with a different bullet but same basic HP) ran .07 faster at HRP than they did at HMP. This means, if you had been at HRP, you could have expected to run .05 to .07 quicker than you did at HMP ***IF YOUR CHASSIS WAS TUNED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE EXTRA HP MADE AVAILABLE BY THE ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS***. Contrary to the pit pundits and the rumor mill, quantum leaps in performance didn't occur, nor did technology mysteriously pass you by in the nite. The facts are always so boring and not nearly as much fun as speculation and rumors!
On another topic, hopefully by now you've noticed the Banquet information. A couple of folks have asked for some details so here's a short FAQ section:
Question: How much is the Banquet costing?
Answer: The per person cost is around $32.00. We're planning on about 100 folks showing up so it's roughly $3200.00. The per person price charged at the door is $10 and there will be a child's rate available. The difference (about $2200.00) will be paid from the TPSA general fund.
Question: I've heard rumors of a points fund. What's the real deal?
Answer: The idea was to surprise the top ten with an unexpected bonus at the Banquet. Yes, there is a $4500.00 points fund to be distributed among the top ten. And of course, trophies, special awards, and the customary jacket for the Champion.
Question: What is the purse structure going to be in 2007?
Answer: Exact details aren't available at this time and are variable. As an example, if TPSA decides to not hold a Banquet next year, those funds could be used to increase purse's. As previously posted, round money winnings (as well as entry fees) will be the same next year. The winner and runner-up payout will be increased. We paid the same runner up money (or more) as the other Houston based series' did this year, but the winner received a smaller percentage to make the round money available. The only exception to this was the HRP race where the additional funds were put into the purse (ask Don Holcomb..he won the largest purse of the year)...LOL. Remember, except for our great sponsors, we are a self funded group. If you own a company, have contacts that might be interested in being involved with the TPSA, or have any ideas to increase marketing opportunities for us, please don't hestitate to share them. We will have a short business meeting at the start the Banquet to get your opinion on a variety of topics.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the Sponsors that made 2006 a reality for the TPSA: TCI, Houston Engine & Balancing, Colony One, Conrad's, Scoggin-Dickey Performance Center, Rutland Transmission, and Platt Bros Racing. In addition, our sincere appreciation to the tracks and management that provided great venues where we could play: Angleton, Houston Motorsports Park, Houston Raceway Park, Pine Valley Raceway, San Antonio Raceway, and Temple Raceway. On a personal note, my thanks to the racers, family, crew, and fans that make the TPSA so enjoyable!
That's it for now. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, complaints, etc., please contact me directly. Donald, Rick, or Eddie wouldn't mind you contacting them if you prefer....except maybe for the complaints...LOL.
Get out and make some laps with your hotrod so you'll be ready when the '07 season starts! See ya at the Banquet.

****Midnight Madness @ San Antonio Raceway **** -- DH, 11/13/06 10:16pm
Mr. Freddy Cruz has confirmed that the TPSA will be returning to San Antonio Raceway in 2007. The MM schedule has not been finalized yet, but a July date looks likely. The date will be posted here as soon as it's set. The race this year (back in February) featured outstanding track prep by Todd and the SAR staff, and provided for some of the best racing of the season. This will be one event you don't wanna miss!

Chris Gulitti (hope the spelling's close) traded his dragster for this nice Stroupe TransAM. He was out at HMP Sunday making some checkout passes, but the track wasn't 100% due to the rain during the day and high humidity. He made a couple of 330' hits and one report has him running a 1.08 60'! The car sports a 555" (HE&B) bullet with a Rutland Transmission glide. Word is he's considering running TPSA next year.

****2007 TPSA SCHEDULE @ HOUSTON MOTORSPORTS PARK**** and other news...... -- thanks to the Baker family, John Mandabach and staff @ HMP, 11/ 3/06 9:19pm
Here ya go......
TPSA has four races confirmed for the 2007 Season at Houston Motorsports Park. The dates are:
***March 10th***
***June 9th***
***August 11th***
***October 13th***
The complete 2007 schedule will be posted as soon as the dates/tracks are confirmed. We're planning on 12 or 13(max) events, and Championship points will be awarded from your best 10 finishes. The purse for the race Winner and Runner Up will be increased (entry fees and round money will be the same as 2006) and details will follow shortly. There are some other programs in the works and details on those will be posted ASAP as well.
In other news, (special thanks to Rick Hanson for his help) the 2006 TPSA Championship Banquet is tentatively scheduled for January 13th, 2007 at the Holiday Inn Select, 14703 Park Row, Houston, Texas (I-10w and HWY 6 area) from 6-10 pm. This is the same venue where last year's event was held. We had a great time with 85 folks in attendance and if you missed the "after" party in the bar, you lost out on some of the best tech tips, engine and chassis set up ideas, and just plain ol BS of the year. Make plans to stay late, and we will have a special room rate available.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the fajita/mexican buffet last year so that's on the menu again. The adult ticket price is $10 per person and a child's rate will be available. The actual cost is $24.95 per person, plus 21% gratuity, plus tax, etc. TPSA funds will be used to cover the difference. If the date doesn't work for you (particularly if you finished in the top ten) please contact me or Rick Hanson ASAP. We need to confirm the booking within the next 10 days. I'll be asking for a head count in the coming weeks so mark your calendar...remember, you do not have to be a member to attend and everyone is welcome.
***ATTENTION*** I realize preparation has begun for next year and everyone wants to know the status of the rules and/or proposed changes. The first priority is to keep the rules as consistant, fair, and simple as possible. These rules revisions do not effect any team or combo currently racing in the TPSA and are intended to clarify "grey" area's and address changing trans technology before it becomes an issue.
(1) We asked for input and as a result of the MEMBERS feedback regarding the proposed performance based weight adjustments for next year.....THE CURRENT RULES WILL STAY IN EFFECT (NO CHANGES).
(2) Transmissions will be limited to POWER GLIDE based units ONLY.
(3) A sheet metal intake with 1 carb will add 50#'s to your base weight. ANY 2 four combo (cast, sheetmetal, carbon fibre, cereal box, etc.) will add 100#'s to your base weight.
(4) Each and every member is required to have more fun! That's it..and the rule page will be updated shortly.
If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please contact either me or Rick Hanson. Boxman is in Vegas (staying @ Harrah's if any of you want to send him some bucks to double up for you....LOL) so his cell might not be working.
Thanks to Mr T Ashabranner, Eddie Conrad, Tommy Costales, Rick Cowger(and friends), Rick Hanson, and Lyndon & Tammy Rutland for the food, taxi service, and good times during my recent trip to the "big city"!

- I was wondering has the TPSA rules people ever considered giving nostalagia cars (i.e. 1st generation camaros, older vettes, shoeboxes, etc.) a weight break so that there is diversity in the cars other than paint jobs? When you all started it was cool to se the older cars racing beside the new body styles. Now with everybody getting the new Ness, Bickel, RJ cars it seems this diversity is slowly going away. I know that you have to upgrade to get the new technology that is available, but maybe if you give the older cars say a 50-100 lb. break they could overcome the disadvantage that they have. Thanks. -- wondering?, 10/19/06 2:32pm

*****SEASON FINALE @ HOUSTON MOTORSPORTS PARK***** -- inside TPSA racing, 10/15/06 8:25pm
This was an absolutely outstanding event! The weatherman had teased everyone early in the week with the promise of some cool temps, low humidity, and high barometer. Of course this is the Houston area, and weather predictions often aren't taken seriously. At the Friday nite test-n-tune it was cool and the track was bitin' hard until about 10pm when all of the imports show up. Terry "Mr T", Ashabranner, was out making some progress on his new set-up and DH, AH, Crownover, Eddie Conrad, Larry Pearce, and Otwell were all in attendance but Mr T was the only one to make laps.
The rest of the TPSA posse rolled in to HMP Saturday morning, and the weather was more Houston like. For the first TT, temp was 80*, humidity @ 59%, sunny with a low barometer. The racers resigned themselves to the fact that the season finale would not be blessed with "fall" weather conditions, but they all knew the Baker family and staff would have the track in optimum shape. The second TT featured slightly cooler temps with higher humidity but the track was suprisingly fast...or the teams had done a bunch of work since the last race, or both. When the qualifying sheet was posted, team HE&B members Hubbard (4.864 @ 142.63)was #1 and the Pigford/Costales team checked in at #2 with a 4.87 @ 142.45.
The call went out for first round with some interesting pairings. The well publicized "bounty" on the "Dude" Conrad (posted by the Boxman) had the pits buzzing and Naylor will collect the Outback Steak dinner via a 4.88 to 4.91 victory over the "Dude". Naylor said "make that steak medium rare". In other action, Costales took out Crownover, Worley over Williams (first race back for the Williams team), Hubbard advanced when Otwell's trans brake didn't hold, Pearce joined the 4.80 club with a victory over "Dandy" Elliott, Mr T took out Aaron Hubbard, Staiger flexed his muscle with a 4.87 lap to put the "Rookie" Hanson on the trailer, and Rigmaiden, in his first race with the BBC combo, drew the bye.
Second round saw Pearce's 4.87 stop Naylor's 4.91, Mr T, with his new HE&B combo and a holeshot, trailered the #2 qualifier Costales, with a career best 4.95 @ 140.01 to Les' 4.88 @ 143.31. Pigford said it was his fault...he missed the setup and the car stumbled hard at the hit which affected the rt and the leave. DH's 4.809 victory over steadily improving Staiger (4.87) was just short of the TPSA record et of 4.790. Finishing out the round was Rigmaiden aka "Mr Mad" posting a 4.93 to advance over Worley's shut off pass.
For the third round, the temperatures had continued to drop a few degrees but the humidity was rising. Mr Mad made it to the final round with a 4.92 over another one of the new guys, Larry Pearce's 4.91. Larry is making the class notice the performance of his Team Conrad's Cavalier and with more laps he will only improve. DH drew his HE&B teammate, Mr T, and when Ashabranner pulled the trigger early, Hubbard carded his 2nd straight 4.80. Mr T's performance improved greatly over the weekend and he surely is wishing the season was just starting!
In the final, it would be Rigmaiden vs. Hubbard...one was looking for his first TPSA win and the other was in the final for the 9th time this year. The tree came down, it was green on both sides (advantage Mr Mad) but AD had to lift when he got a bit loose, and DH closed the deal, and the season, with his 7th win of 2006. He couldn't reset the record set earlier in the year (when the air conditions were more favorable) but the ticket showed a 4.81 @ 143.91.
Our thanks to the Baker's, John Mandabach, and the staff of Houston Motorsports Park for a great season. The track prep has been flawless all year and the finale was no exception. Thanks for allowing the TPSA to be part of your program and we're looking forward to 2007.

*****SEASON FINALE @ HOUSTON MOTORSPORTS PARK***** -- DH, 10/13/06 12:26pm
It's race time! The Baker's will have the track ready, a small shower won't hurt the track, a new car or two is reportedly showing up, and some members that haven't been racing lately are coming.....we're expecting a high car count.
As a reminder, your TPSA entry ($125) is good for car/driver and two crew. Any additional crewmembers will pay the track gate fee. Be sure to tell 'em at the gate you're with TPSA and give them your name. My trailer(green & white motorhome w/white stacker)serves as race control. You must come by my trailer and get your tech card and TPSA entry. Without a tech card you cannot get your armbands. If you want to be part of the round drawings/pairings just come by the trailer about 30 minutes before the round. We usually pick someone from the crowd to draw names and the round pairings will posted at the trailer.
We will have two TPSA time trials (procedure calls for each car to make one in each lane) and once eliminations start there will be about one hour between rounds(see schedule posted below). There will be open TT sessions if you need additional laps. For you new guys, HMP runs a very tight schedule and you must report to the lanes on time or you'll miss the TT or round! Be sure to make the driver's meeting @ 2pm, and if you have any questions be sure to ask. Everyone has done a good job of being ready and getting to the lanes on time....thank you. We will weigh after each round and the scales will be available during TT's so you can check your weight. If you have any questions just come by the trailer.
Looking forward to seeing all of you there, and some great racing at Houston Motorsports Park for the season finale. I'll be @ the track tonite so call my cell, or Rick Hanson with any questions.
See ya in the lanes....

11 Races....6 different winners so far....

- Well there ya go, 6 diff. winners!!! Why would you want to think about changing the rules??? I went thru all this 3 years when Jimmy & LC were winning EVERY race, 2 or 3 guys came up with ways to slow the fastest guys down to there speed and they beat on me for months to make a change. And 1 of the ideas then was to add weight for running more than X faster than the other cars etc. etc.....I polled all the racers 1 at a time and the MAJORITY said; "leave the rules alone, we will build to them, if Spot can do it so can we" And they did!!!! 6 different winners this year should say it all! Adjustments to the rules at year end like changing the weight for 2 carbs or sheetmetal intake or another specific modification is 1 thing but adding weight to keep it close will only slow down the whole class in the end.......just my thoughts.... (NT) -- Mike Morgan, 10/ 7/06 9:27am
MIke I really appreciate you weighing in on this. As you know, it's extremely difficult to convey the complete message/idea without being face to face. The "adjustment" idea came from the man who is currently the quickest car (after 1 weekend out with his combo). Joe Pigford has more experience than anyone in the class when it comes to EXTREMELY expensive racing; ie, Comp elim, and PS truck. When a man (who will lose some of his advantage over the field) suggests that we consider something to inhibit 6 figure spending....well, maybe it's worth a thought. He and a few others can afford it but the majority of the class can't or won't. Price some of the exotic engine stuff that's out there, ceramics, titanium, composites, and our $30K or so motors could cost double or triple that. As I posted, it's just an idea and each member should voice his opinion. (NT) -- when do you want your old job back?....LOL....DH, 10/ 7/06 12:17pm
Here's my two pennies. The "adjustment" idea was hashed over a long time ago and that was when the cars were separated by 5 tenths instead of 5 hundreths and no one wanted it then. If you really want to tighten the field up then get rid of the delay boxes, air & electric shifters. Now the driver has to DRIVE THE CAR! No electronic gizmos, just man and machine. And if you're concerned about high dollar parts getting into the mix, then simply outlaw them. There.....all fixed. If you need anything else, you know where to find me....hehehe (NT) -- Mr. Big Knows All, 10/ 9/06 1:35pm
- My view -- PSR, 10/ 9/06 4:28pm
Keeping the rules the way they are and eliminateing the Delay Boxes and all the (Bracket Racing) electronics air & electric shifters would definitely level the playing field and then we will see who can REALLY DRIVE! (NT) -- Great Idea!, 10/10/06 9:23am
A delay box can't improve rt. With 1000+ hp, & the chassis dialed in these cars will go red anytime. If your TPSA car won't redlite, chances are there is still work to do on the chassis. Lee Staiger has worked on his car all year, and now that the chassis is close he's red without the 'box. In the final @ PVR, he had .015 delay in and still went .393 red. He needed .022 in the 'box to go .400 green. Not to single Lee out, but his story is typical. If you take the 'boxes out, the savvy racers who have cars that react (& 60' well) will simply use Comp and Super Stock "tricks" to avoid redlites. As far as auto shifters go....without them you can short shift if you're loose or track conditions dictate (an option even with A/S) or carry the shift higher if the track is tighter than you thought. With auto shift the rpm/time at which the shift takes place is pre determined BEFORE the pass (just like delay is set PRIOR to the run) and if you miss the set up your et (or rt) will suffer. Also, (NT) -- when running finals @ 2am, in heavy dew, A/S could be a safety feature that allows driving with both hands. Finally, you guys that think a driver with massive amounts of delay in a car, that cuts consistantly good lites, can't "REALLY DRIVE" well..... (PSR, this is NOT directed at your post) DH, 10/10/06 4:57pm
Hmmm............"A delay box can't improve rt." Interesting statement. If a delay box does not improve reaction time, then why use it? If the sole purpose of the box is to avoid a redlight, isn't that an "improvement'? (NT) -- Mr. Big S##tstarter hehehe, 10/12/06 2:50pm

- You can NOT stop the Progression in this class or you will die! -- Lesson Planner, 10/10/06 6:56pm
People want to hold back (retard) the class for there own personal gain. Every wants a chance to be a hero for a day.The Dictators have seen the light and continue to let the class progress naturally over time. They understand that money can buy speed and that is the way of the world (sorry). They understand that the cars will progressively get faster and faster until the level of technology one must poses in order to run competitively will be in the NHRA Comp eliminator range. That will not be for many many years yet but it will happen eventually. What most don't understand is that this will and is going to happen and it is happening progressively over time which is a good thing. If it happened all at once the class would be dead. Slow progression is great for a class and that will insure the longevity and interest for many years to come! Racing and engine building are competitive by nature. Without competition there is no progression there is only stagnation and stagnation is instant DEATH in business and racing alike!!!! Any time a sanctioning body leans towards the welfare approach to drag racing and try to make everyone even, they drag down the best and brightest in the class, stagnate progression and kill the class forever. How many instances can you count of this very thing happening. We all want to go fast. We all want to be the best. we all want to be the fastest but guess what, we cant always be the best because someone is going to out work, out spend and out wit your a$$. If you cant except this fact then you don't belong in racing. This is competition at its finest and the powers that be (dictators) have placed before us a situation where the best and the brightest can shine. Yes, the expense is going up. It has been going up, It will continue to go up. And if you don't have the competitive nature at heart and are not willing to give it everything you have, you will not succeed. That is racing. If you don't understand that, then you never really understood the very nature of the sport you participate in.

I agree with your opinion, in theory. One exception is "People want to hold back (retard) the class for there own personal gain". Joe Pigford suggested some form of a "cap" to discourage spending at levels unobtainable to 80% of our current members. I've been racing a long time and have NEVER heard the quickest car (and a racer with a large budget) suggest to penalize (limit) HIMSELF. He obviously enjoys the class, and is concerned with the big picture. Car count is essential to the success and continued growth of the TPSA, and costs definitely impact participation. We have some great sportsmen in the group who have said "run 'em and we'll do our best to catch up". Others are convinced this is some type of ploy to undermine their dominance, should they be able to achieve the necessary performance. Still others would like to see adjustments but have no idea where to start. Joe Pigford's unsolicited, selfless gesture is to be admired......... ask yourself what YOU would have done? -- DH, 10/ 9/06 10:09pm
They've been this close all season long, and now are down to only one race left to settle it. Donald the "Boxman" Hughes (Beretta) and Eddie the "Dude" Conrad, are separated by a mere 24 points in the battle for the Runner Up honors for the 2006 Season. Both have claimed the maximum ten races but each has a first round loss to drop. Here's where it gets interesting...Donald will not be at the season finale...he committed earlier in the year to be with the NHRA Comp eliminator team on the 14th. This means Conrad must win the first and second round on Saturday to pass Donald by a single point!
Elsewhere, the "Rookie" Chad Hanson is in good shape in the fourth position, but it's not a lock. He has a shot mathematically, at the third spot, or even the Runner Up position if Conrad lost first round and Chad won the event. Both Otwell, and Naylor (one point apart right now) need to Runner Up or Win to pass Chad (if Chad doesn't improve). These two, along with Ben Worley and Lee Staiger have been running well lately, and the way these five teams finish will determine the top eight.
Meanwhile, Aaron Hubbard sits 9th, and Randy the "Dandy" Elliott needs to win the first round to pass the absent Don Holcomb to round out the top ten.
The guys sitting outside the top ten want to win the race to end the season on a high note. Ashabranner, Pearce, Pigford/Costales, Crownover, and Wood, all have new rides and haven't been able to make the full schedule but will make their presence known at the finale. Also, Donny Williams should be back, and Dave Donaldson is hoping to make his TPSA debut.
So there you have it. The current points are posted on the points page if you want to run your own scenarios on "what if", we are expecting a field full of quality cars that are itching to prove a point, and you can bet the Baker's will have the track prepared to National Event standards. The weatherman says cooler air is on the way so come on out to HMP on the 14th and see how it all unfolds.
See ya in the lanes.....

This is the TCI certificate for $500 off (of jobber price) of any TCI product that will be awarded to the 2006 TPSA Championship Series Runner Up. Hughes and Conrad are the favorites, but many other mathematical finishes are possible. This, and the final top ten order, will be decided this Saturday, October 14th, at Houston Motorsports Park. Thanks to TCI and Mr. Stanley Poff for your support of TPSA!

Remind yourself !!!! -- "Rookie" Hanson, 10/ 9/06 12:35pm
All who are complaining, need to step back and remind yourself, why we do what we do. We are all out to have fun. None, are out here to make any money! The picture on the HOME page says it all. Look at Otwell, Conrad, and Special Ed. Do you see what they are doing? They laughing and caring on!! Not pissing and moaning. Yes, I may be young, but I was brought into racing to have fun at it! Not to be upset if someone has a better TOY than me or beat me. You will loose way more than you ever win!!! Now get up out the chair and go play with your TOYS, couse HANSON MOTORSPORTS is coming to get ya!! :) LOL. Just my "Rookie" 2 cents !

This is Todd Bevis' first car for Dave. Bevis' was hired by Cagnazzi Racing a couple of years ago to be their in-house chassis guy. Some of you may remember Todd from his Texas days.....in fact he repaired the "Boxman's" ride after a little incident. Hope Knoll rethinks his position on NHRA Pro Stock...
 -- Dave Connolly's new Torco/Knoll/Cagnazzi ride........ , 10/10/06 1:40am
Here's some news from the "big leagues". Sponsor extraordinaire and Pro Stock team owner Evan Knoll has concerns about his future in Pro Stock. Recently, in an interview, Knoll alluded that the NHRA Pro Stock field might just be battling for a third place finish at best, which has him carefully examining his future in the class.
“I have some concerns with three cars coming out of the Cagnazzi camp and if you ask me, it’s hard enough to put two competitive cars out there much less three. I have some concerns. We’ll see how that works out at the end of the year.”
Knoll expects the Summit Pontiacs of Greg Anderson and Jason Line to drive to the title virtually unchallenged.
“I have to give it to Anderson and Line, those guys are just badass,” Knoll said. “When you look at who they have involved in the operation – Ken Black, Greg Anderson and Jason Line – they are rightfully ahead of everyone. That’s a package that’s equal to a Thanksgiving dinner, you just can’t beat it. The only thing I have…and I’m in third place…and I’m not ashamed to say it is a turkey leg and a giblet. I still want some dressing and potatoes.
Knoll is convinced that no other engine builder can come close to the KB/Summit team. “I don’t really see anyone out there that can overtake them,” Knoll said. “There are some that can get in striking distance but that’s all. Nobody is close to overtaking them. Take a look at the numbers. They are pocketing a few hundredths that we haven’t seen yet. It’s like the Jetsons racing the Flintstones. That’s the truth from an old hillbilly that’s chased a championship for two years.
Knoll threw down the gauntlet. “If there’s an engine builder that can beat them,” Knoll continued. “Show me. I want to see it. Talk is cheap but the facts are more expensive. It ain’t hard to get in the top ten but the top ten or top five don’t mean a thing to me. The only thing that matters to me is number one and performing like number one.”
Unsubstantiated rumors suggest Black is in the market to add two cars under his championship umbrella. With Knoll’s comments, it makes one wonder if the Torco leader is planning to park his team and driver Dave Connolly. My sources say that the 4 car KB team is a reality.....if they can acquire the teams they're interested in.

*****State of the Union***** -- DH, 10/ 4/06 10:30pm
As the 2006 season winds down, a brief state of the union message seems to be in order. TPSA is continuing to receive large amounts of attention, and interest is at an all time high. Overall class performance has drastically improved as has the quality of the field. As an example, at Pine Valley, we had two new teams (Pigford & Pearce) with VERY nice cars, and other members have invested in the future of TPSA by selling their old cars and/or updating; ie, Otwell, Ashabranner, Worley, Williams, Crownover, and Cowger/Wood to name a couple. There are at least two other teams that didn't race with us this year that are currently working on highly competitive pieces for next year. This is a compliment to all of the TPSA teams and the association itself on the quality of the group.
From day one, when Mark, Mike, and John first put this deal together, the goal was to have a place to run affordable, competitive, heads-up racing with a minimum amount of rules, and have a good time doing it. We all know that the words "affordable & heads-up" don't belong in the same sentence, but the objective is to keep the costs as reasonable as possible without stifling ingenuity, creativity, hard work or losing the basic competitive nature that is heads-up racing.
That said, there are a couple of rules that need to be addressed for next year and beyond. To my knowledge, these changes don't affect any current combinations, or any that are being prepared for next year. If you are/will be affected, let us know. What I'd like you to consider:
1. Transmissions will be limited to a powerglide based unit only. No lockup converters and developing technology will be monitored and weight adjustments will be imposed if necessary.
2. Any two carb setup (regardless of manifold type) will carry a 100# weight adjustment.
3. The drivers commission would have the responsibility to impose weight adjustments on any dominant team. This would be patterned loosely along NHRA Comp eliminator guidelines. For example, if a team is .05 quicker than the #2 team, a one race adjustment of 50#'s would be imposed at the next race. Remember, this is just an example and the details would need to be worked out, but to provide stability, and a platform on which to grow, some logical adjustments should be implemented now. This type of format was recommended by Joe Pigford who reminded me that a good comp eliminator motor is in the $75,000 range. That's not a direction that would provide stability or growth for the TPSA. The fun factor would definitely take a hard hit as well....LOL. Well, that's all we're looking at right now. Remember, these are only suggestions and are intended to stimulate your input and participation.
To summarize, the TPSA is growing, healthy, and the full potential has yet to be realized. Thank you all for your support and commitment and I believe the best is yet to come.
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or solutions please don't hesitate to contact either me, Rick Hanson, Donald Hughes, or Eddie Conrad.
OK, now get back in the shop and get those hotrods ready for the season finale @ Houston Motorsports Park, October 14th.
See ya in the lanes,

- Hahaha.....Are you serious? TPSA quit being affordable when Reher Morrison, LC, and Spot raped the Class. It's been about credit cards, bank, and home equity loans ever since. It ain't a poor boy's class by any means. Now it's full of X-Pro cars and washed up comp racers who couldn't compete with the big boys, so now they are here buying a class they can compete in. (NT) -- Telling it like it is!, 10/ 5/06 4:28pm
- I DONT SEE WHY YALL WONT ALLOW THE BIG CHIEF STUFF. ORIGIONALLY I COULD SEE WHY TO TRY AND KEEP COST DOWN BUT THAT WAS BACK WHEN IT WAS A BUNCH OF OLD SUPER GAS CARS WITH THE STOPS TURNED OFF.... NOW ITS OLD (1 OR 2 YEARS MAX) STATE OF THE ART EX PRO STOCK CARS CARBON FIBER AND TITANIUM EVERYTHING AND THE REAL KICKER IS TO GET THE CONVENTIONAL HEADS TO RUN YOU HAVE TO INVEST A WHEEL BARROW FULL OF MONEY IN THEM. THE ONLY WAY COSTS ARE BEING KEPT DOWN IS BECAUSE CREDIT CARDS HAVE LIMITS AND BANKS CHARGE EXTRA TO BE OVERDRAWN.. THIS CLASS ISNT NOTHING MORE THAN A CONTEST OF WHO HAS THE DEEPEST POCKETS.. AND FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN THEY ARE REAL DEEP (NT) -- $$$$RICHIE RICH$$$$, 10/ 5/06 9:23pm
- Here we go again. It does not take a wheel barrow full of money to get them to work. You guys get me. get off your butt and go to work and make what you have run. You ever wonder why the "washed up" comp racers went so fast? Cause they worked their tail off on their car.I can't keep up with the money, I coulda, woulda, shoulda will not make a car go any faster. All the guys that were running when Spot "raped" the class as you say are now running the same numbers. And by the way, spectators don't want to watch slow cars go down the track. No spectators, no money for booked in show. (NT) -- Jimmy "the Rapist" Phillips, 10/ 6/06 12:07am
I beg to differ about the class is full of all washed up comp, SG,or SC racers. And also you can make a non prostock car work. We (hanson motorsports) , Boxman, Naylor, Elloit, Holcomb, and others have made adjustments to our programs, that will not cause you to be looking for another job. When we 1st started we were running, in the 5.30's in good air ! It takes time and knoledge. (not money) If you don't know, then ask. There are no stupid questions. Sounds like Richie Rich is too lazy to try and compete. It's not always about money, you have to let your brain work!!!! I'm only 27 years old, you think I know everything? Heck no, but I garantee, that I will be the 1st one to ask a question, dive into something, or the HANSON MOTORSPORTS crew will try something totally diff. , just to see!!!! Know my brain hurts! LOL :) (NT) -- "Rookie" Hanson, 10/ 6/06 9:43am
OOPPSS, NOW my brain hurts ! LOL : ) (NT) -- "Rookie" Hanson, 10/ 6/06 9:46am
The Hanson's are a great example of what hard work will get you. They don't have a boat load of money, just the desire to excell. yeah they got beat a bunch at first, but you better be ready if line up against them now. There are any number of ways to go faster with what you have. Rolling resistance, drag, weight distribution, shocks, even stopping wheelies. Big wheelies look awesome but they waste forward motion. How many people just slap a 3rd member in and not align the axles so that there is minimum drag to turn it? Like Chad says, If you don't know seek knowledge. it will do 10 times more than a handful of 100 dollar bills. (NT) -- Jimmy, 10/ 6/06 10:16am
- Well i guess you can consider me a washed up S/G- S/C racer. That is what i could afford until I teamed up with Larry Camp. Do you agree that it takes a 565 or 573 to be competetive in TPSA? If so, go price all the pieces to build one. And i mean all of them. The fasteners, carb, wires, valve covers, oil pump, pan, everything. Now call R/M and see what they will build you one for. You won't be that far off. Now find out what all the machine work is going to cost. Any serious engine will need some dyno time to help tune it, add that. A heads up class has never been cheap, but it can be done on a smaller budget than what a lot of the racers spend.Everyone has seen someone buy a 4.70 car and tuned it up and went out and ran 5.30 wwith it. All I am trying to say is, It isn't always about how much money is spent. Just my opinion, and we all know what they say about those. LOL (NT) -- Jimmy, 10/ 6/06 12:18pm
- WASHED UP ? -- Mr.T, 10/ 6/06 3:50pm
- DH, in regards to your post. If he will take you up on your heads, I will take your intake for $500.. (NT) -- keeping it stirred, Mr.T, 10/ 6/06 8:11pm
- RR, I will tell you why not. i am not willing to spend the time or effort any longer. i have moved on to other interests, and I also have to send my son to college. I have retired and no longer have the disposible income I used to have, and at the age of 55 I no longer feel the urge to work on a car 3 nights a week, but if i was so inclined I GUARANTEE you I could come back and be very competetive on less than a lot of teams out there. But you believe what you want, "Your misery has more to do with your attitude than your circunstance". (NT) -- Jimmy, 10/ 6/06 10:24pm

***Rodger Brogdon Announces plans for 2007**** -- wasn't exactly the best kept secret in drag racing, but now it's official..., 10/ 3/06 3:51pm
Competition Eliminator All-Star Rodger Brogdon of Houston will make the move to Pro Stock in 2007 behind the wheel of a David Nickens-powered Dodge Stratus R/T. Brogdon will be leasing a motor from Enders Racing and will share data with driver Erica Enders, however the two teams will remain separate entities. Brogdon's team will run all 23 national events.
"This is the next natural step in my driving career," Brogdon said. "I believe most Comp racers would make the jump to Pro Stock if they had the finances to do it. We're going to aggressively pursue some sponsors and give this thing a champion-level effort."
"I've been at this 20-something years although we didn't get serious about it until maybe six, seven years ago," Brogdon said. "We've learned a lot as racers and we've learned a lot about the business of drag racing. I've said from the start I would only make this move if the situation was right and we could provide our sponsors with a nice return on their investment. With the help of Gregg Enders and Enders Racing we have put together a package that will allow us to reach that goal".
"I've been fortunate enough to have success in the private sector and my background is in marketing. I've studied the business side of NHRA drag racing extensively and I feel I know what it takes to get a sponsor and then keep them happy year after year. I know the return that can be expected because I've had my own company name on my racecars over the years. By applying the proper business formula, this can be a perfect fit for the right sponsor". The 45-year-old Brogdon has been in the roofing business for most of his adult life. He has owned and operated RoofTec in Tomball, Texas, since 1993.
This alliance gives the fans two Houston area pro stock teams to cheer for in the '07 season.

Man, what a race! The TPSA troupe rolled in to the Bailey family's Pine Valley Raceway for the 11th race of the season. Mother Nature didn't threaten to rain on this parade, but she did throw some hot and humid conditions at the racers. Mr. Bill Bailey and staff had the track manicured and prepped for the last TPSA event of 2006 @ PVR.
All of the rumors and speculation proved to be true as three new cars (two new teams) unloaded for the early test session. Joe Pigford's Stroupe Grand Am, Larry Pearce's Haas Cavalier, and Ben Worley's Ness Grand Am definitely raised a few eyebrows just sittin' in the pits. Several of the teams took advantage of the test session to prepare for qualifying and the race to come.
After both qualifying sessions were over, Les Costales, driving Pigford's Houston Engine & Balancing powered machine, sat on top of the heap with a 4.885 @ a whopping 142.54. HE&B teammate, Hubbard, was second with a 4.942 @ 140.98, and Worley (Reher-Morrison power) was pleased with his new car's 4.959 @140.71 which put him #5. Pearce, with only a few laps under his belt, was 8th @ 5.01 @ 139.53 in his Conrad Racing Engines entry.
First round had some very interesting matchups and held points implications for those guys battling for the top five. Conrad defeated Ashabranner, 5.01 to 5.05, the Boxman and his Glen Machine power, lived up to his billing with a .408 lite but couldn't hold off Naylor's 4.93. By luck of the draw, the #1 and #2 qualifiers, and HE&B teammates, Costales and DH, saddled 'em up. Les, showing courtesy to his elder, let Hubbard go, then ran him down with a 4.870, 142.45 to DH's 4.92, 141.33. Worley's 4.95 was negated by a .394 redlite advancing Chad Hanson, Larry Pearce won his first round of TPSA competition with 4.95 over Aaron Hubbard, and Lee Staiger's great 4.900 added an exclamation point to Richard Otwell's redlite. Richard and Joe Gonzales of G&G Performance have teamed up to finish the season (and maybe beyond) with Richard's Cavalier. Rick Cowger, driving Daryl Woods Camaro, was out gettin' some seat time until their new legal motor is ready. Hill Country Boyz member, Clint Crownover, couldn't make the call after some strange ignition issues sidelined him.
Second round saw Naylor's Schmidt power improve to a 4.91 to trailer Conrad's tire shaking effort. Conrad did gain some points on the 2nd place Hughes by going an extra round. Staiger used another 4.90 to end Pearce's Cinderella hopes. Larry had a very competitive package with a .409 lite and 4.98 et. This team will only get better with more laps. Costales put Pigford's new car into the next round with a 4.87 to stop the "Rookie" Hanson's 4.99. Hanson also gained some ground in his bid for the #2 spot.
The Semi's pitted Staiger against Naylor and the fans would be treated to an incredible race. Lee out first (.414 to .426) and his David Cook power prevailed by inches, 4.902(his 3rd straight .90!) to Jim's best run of the nite, 4.905. Jim and crewchief Ed Anderson battled a flywheel/converter problem and replaced an ignition box just to make eliminations. Great effort by those guys. Costales drew the bye and eased into the final with a 4.86 pass initiated by a .405 lite.
The final had Costales lose the toss and Staiger put him in the right lane. They staged 'em up, the tree flashed, and it was over. A .393 redlite by Staiger made the team of Pigford,HE&B, and Costales a winner at the first outing with the new ride. The team was having trouble all nite with a balky trans that wouldn't allow Les to stage normally and he did a great job overcoming it.
There was one more final to run before the nite was over. This was the perfect opportunity to run the delayed final between DH and Worley from the postponed Angleton race. Hubbard's .427rt, 4.94 @ 141.46 proved to be just enough to hold off Ben's .446rt, 4.93 @ 141.02.
Thanks to the Bailey family and staff of Pine Valley Raceway for a great season and for providing a place for the TPSA members to play. We're looking forward to seeing you guys (LORI) at the banquet and to an even better 2007 season.

*****Race #11 this SATURDAY (the 30th) @ Pine Valley... TT's @ 3pm, eliminations @ 6:30*****
--
, 09/29/06 1:44am
It's race time! Weather forecast looks good, a new car or two is reportedly showing up, and we're expecting a high car count.
As a reminder, your TPSA entry ($125) is good for car/driver and two crew. Any additional crewmembers will pay the track gate fee. Be sure to tell 'em at the gate you're with TPSA. My trailer(green & white motorhome w/white stacker)serves as race control. Before you go to track tech come by the trailer and get your TPSA entry and tech form. Also, if you want to be part of the round drawings/pairings just come by the trailer about 30 minutes before the round. We usually pick someone from the crowd to draw names and the round pairings will posted at the trailer.
The private TPSA test session is from 12-3pm and the regular TT's start @ 3pm with eliminations to begin @ 6:30. We will have two TPSA time trials (procedure calls for each car to make one in each lane) and once eliminations start there will be about one hour between rounds. Everyone has done a good job of being ready and getting to the lanes on time....thank you. We will weigh after each round and the scales will be available during TT's so you can check your weight. If you have any questions just come by the trailer.
I'll be headed for Pine Valley this afternoon, so call my cell, Rick Hanson, or Donald Hughes with any questions. Looking forward to seeing all of you there, and some great racing at Pine Valley Raceway.
See ya in the lanes....

One more time for the keyboard warriors, haters, and folks that just plain don't get it. Racing on the professional level is a JOB and a difficult business. It requires more effort in promotion, attracting sponsors, interacting with fans, etc. than most of us will ever understand. As a result, a personality that is marketable, has a large fan base, works hard, and is responsible to his/her sponsors and fans will secure money that other racers can't. The picture below says it all! If your jealous because Gregg E. is a better promoter than you are or that EE got a ride you'll never have.......either get over it or get busy! As long as she has the fan and sponsor support she currently enjoys, Erica will be racing for a long time. Although I count them among my friends, you certainly don't have to like 'em, but you have to admire their dedication and determination to achieve their goals in racing.
(NT) -- Thanks for listening..DH, 09/26/06 1:07am
- I got to disagree with you on this one DH. Why would a major sponsor want Erica (young, pretty, talented, did I say pretty, personable) when they could have me? Old , grumpy, no talent, fat, (did I say ugly?) I deserve it more than she does, cause I can bitch better about it. I shouldn't ave to beat the bushes for it, they should come to me. LOL Was just cruising to see how things were going with ya'll and couldn't help but reply. LOL See Ya Later (NT) -- Jimmy, 09/27/06 1:45am

the "Boxman" Hughes (Baretta), the "Dude" Conrad (Camaro), and the "Rookie" Chad Hanson ('Vette) have two races to determine who will be the series Runner Up for 2006. Richard Otwell (Cavalier) has an outside shot if he wins the last two races and has some help. Look for a full field with all of the "regulars" and some new cars that might affect the final points outcome. Each team wants the bragging rights for winning @ Pine Valley and to finish as high as possible in the 2006 season. Don't miss it!! --

*****Enders Racing signs new major sponsor***** --
, 09/20/06 12:49pm
It didn't take second-year Pro Stock driver Erica Enders long to secure a major sponsor for her new racing operation, signing food, nutrition, and beverage company Revive-USA as the primary backer of her Dodge Stratus R/T for the remainder of the season with a three-year option. The team will debut its Revive-USA Dodge Stratus R/T at this weekend's 21st annual O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec in Dallas.
Based in Dallas, Revive-USA's food, nutrition, and beverage products were developed by two of the preeminent scientists in the field of science and nutrition who have combined experience of more than 70 years. Revive-USA provides nutritional products for consumers and athletes to give them energy in their daily regime.
"In our opinion, NHRA Drag Racing is on a very impressive upward trend, and we just don't see it slowing down anytime soon. We're excited to jump on for the ride, especially with someone we consider to be one of the future all-stars of the sport. Erica is very special on and off the track" said CEO Bruce Badgett.
Good luck this weekend in Ennis to Erica and the crew!

It's great to see all around nice guy Donny Williams back at the track. He was out @ HMP recently for a couple of shake down passes and plans to be testing again this weekend in preparation for the Pine Valley race. The update on Donny's car has been a combined effort on the part of 3 companies, Lidiak Motorsports, Bumbera's Performance, and Chris Alston's Chassisworks. Pine Valley will be Donny's first opportunity to unleash the engine upgrades that Conrad had performed earlier this year with the new chassis set up.

This picture was received in an email here at the palatial offices of the TPSA with a single sentence attached. Basically it said here's a picture of the car that will be in the winner's circle September 30th @ Pine Valley! Of course it's all in good fun but you know all of the teams have different opinions of how that race will end. Team Conrad is bringing three cars: Wood/Cowger, Pearce's new ride, and the "Dude" himself. In addition to all of the usual players; Hughes, Hanson, Otwell, Naylor, Worley, Staiger, and Team HE&B's four cars, (DH, AH, Mr T & Crownover), Joe Pigford is expected to make his TPSA debut (with a HE&B "rental") and Donny Williams hopes to be ready. With just two races remaining on the 2006 schedule you can count on the action on the track being very intense. Mark your calendars now to be @ Pine Valley Raceway in beautiful Lufkin, Texas on September 30th. See ya there.....

-- another PS "rumor" is now official......The Enders family has realized a life long dream by purchasing their own professional NHRA team. , 09/ 4/06 2:38pm
Erica Enders, has purchased DSR's red team outright and will retain crew chief and engine builder David Nickens.
"This is a dream come true for me," Enders said. "This is something my dad and I have talked about since I was a little girl and to have it finally happen is quite a feeling. We're so excited about the future. There's a lot of work to do but Mr. Schumacher has given us a great headstart by helping us get going and we're ready to move forward."
Enders Racing will stay affiliated with Schumacher's race team through associate sponsorship deals, show cars, and personal appearances. Nickens will now work exclusively for Enders Racing. The new team will be based out of Houston. Nickens' engine shop in located in the Houston suburb of Conroe.
"I love David and the fact he's in our home town works out great for all of us," Enders said. "He's worked extremely hard on his engine program and now that he's close to debuting his own engines we're confident we'll be right back in the mix. This has turned into a transition year for us but it's what we wanted, ultimately. It'll be good to have some warm-up time for 2007."
Enders and her father Gregg are still searching for a major sponsor but have commitments from restaurant owner Stan Holt and his Houston-area Lupe Tortillas chain of restaurants. Holt is a long-time family friend and will be a big part of the management of the team moving forward.
Congratulations to Gregg & Erica and it will be fun to have a Houston based Pro Stock team to root for.

Jeggie's Cobalt is ready and he's due to start testing next week in Virginia and slated to race the last three NHRA nationals this year. Congrats all around and this will be the team to watch.

Cowger, Ashabranner, and Crownover have recently joined the Winscott's in the "sold" car crowd. Of course Terry and Clint were already racing their new car (truck) but the sales will free up a some expendable funds for them. Worley's Bickel Camaro is still for sale on Racing Junk and the latest rumor has Cowger teaming up with Daryl Wood in the red Camaro for the rest of '06 and the '07 season. Also, the "Dandy" Elliott, is working behind the scenes to field a new ride next year.
Motor news has Worley selling the RM 565" to the Larry Pearce team (Cavalier)so they can get some laps while Conrad builds the fresh one for next year, Otwell is reported to have yet another member's bullet between the frame rails @ the PVR race in September (Richard's Cavalier has become the rolling chassis dyno of the TPSA....LOL). Conrad is building two new 565's for next year...one for himself and the other for teammate Pearce, and he's also updating Cowger's piece to go into Wood's Camaro. Otwell is having a piece built for next year but security is tighter than getting through airport check-in and details are hard to come by. Joe Pigford's new RM bullet isn't quite ready but they're indications he might run the last two races with a "rental". Over at HE&B, Ashabranner's new 565 is one race old and ready to rock, DH and Clint are finalizing plans for '07, & Aaron Hubbard's only got one thing on his Christmas list...more HP! One interesting note: Clint's current motor was recently dyno'd and the results reveal that a good legal TPSA motor will be enough to make the truck very competitive. Watch this guy's progress in '07 when he can line up and race.
The repairs & updates to Donny Williams Chevelle are complete and Donny was set to do some testing this weekend before the rains hit the Houston area. Rain also hit the Boxman this weekend as he was in Topeka for the NHRA division race with the Mikel team. Don Holcomb hasn't checked in with us in a while but hopefully the repairs are coming along on schedule with his Monte Carlo. Two teams that are planning to race the '07 season, Winscott & LaGrone are working to be ready for the opener.
The other teams are being pretty quiet...either there's not much going on or they're doing some top secret stuff that we haven't uncovered yet. Rick Hanson is taking a long scooter trip during the break and others are just getting the kids back in school, catching up at work, or doing the maintenance on the race car that's been neglected.
That's it for now...when news breaks we'll be there.

Checkin' out a couple of the other message boards and they were asking for old pic's & stories. This is a nifty idea and since access to some of DH's stuff isn't a problem, we should start with him.
The pic of the '66 Chevelle (circa 1977) was taken at Penwell Raceway near Odessa, Tx. The car was purchased new by a guy who took it to Don Hardy for the straight axle treatment. He soon tired of it and DH brought it home in '67. Youthful intelligence being what it is, DH sold the original 375hp 396, the stock hood, console w/tach (or maybe clock, it's been too long), the stock seats, and had ladder bars installed. The car went through several phases until about '74 when a alum headed, alum rodded 439 (427 bored), short plenum tunnel ram with two 660 Holley's, went in the engine bay. A 6.14 pro gear w/a Moroso Brute Strength and Henry's axles w/ Moroso studs, Doug Nash 4 speed (of course he sold the "junk" muncie rock crusher), Hays black cover Pro Stock clutch setup, Lakewood Scattershield, Hooker Headers, Moroso front runners (up until then the only "skinny" fronts were tires off of a VW) Mickey Thompson streets and M&H slicks on Centerline wheels. The deal he'd made with his girlfriend at the time was once the car ran anywhere in the 10 second zone (through the mufflers and street tires), he was done. He thought he'd made a pretty clever agreement...heck he'd be racing that car for years. Remember this is the mid '70's and Odessa is about 3800 ft elevation. Well as luck would have it, the second time out with the car's new combo, at Carlsbad Raceway in New Mexico, the car went 10.80 something. Now before you youngsters say "big deal", nobody in west Texas knew anything about N20, much less had it on their cars during this time, and this boat weighed approx 3200#'s. DH has every time slip he ever got tucked away in shoeboxes and if it's located a pic will be posted.
Over the years he did take a short vacations from drag racing to pursue other racing venues, but he always came back. You should know that his girl at the time (in the other pic with the check from the Wall, Texas racetrack & Chevelle), sold her Mercury Capri to help DH buy that Doug Nash tranny.
That's a long story but maybe it was somewhat entertaining a gives you a glimpse behind the scenes. All of you have stories and pics that we'd like to see. Please post your stories, pics, or other stuff that reveals a bit of your past, or for that matter, the present. If you don't know how to post pics email them to info@texasprostock.com with your story and it'll get posted.
PS. In case you're wondering what happened to the car, DH still has it. The Doug Nash went to a friend years ago, the motor pieces are @ the Platt Bros. shop somewhere (I think), but the rest of the car & parts are under a cover in a more secure place than the 'vette or the firechicken. As for the girlfriend??....she and DH got married in '75 and she is still listening to the stories of when he might quit/ retire from racing.

This Cavalier hasn't made it to Texas yet..... but reports are it's first stop will be the paint booth with the ultimate goal of the winner's circle @ TPSA events during the '07 campaign.
Larry Pearce will use the Cavalier pictured above to team up with Conrad Racing Engines in an all out assault on what's shaping up to be an ultra competitive '07 season. The '06 season isn't over yet and we've already had Mr T's 'Bird and Daryl Wood's Camaro debut and testing for next year, Mr. Pigford's Grand Am being prepared, a new GTO being built and the persistant rumor of a certain Cavalier returning with a new driver/partner. Added to the new cars, there are car updates in progress, many new/upgraded engine/chassis programs already in progress or deep into the planning stages. It's not even the "silly season" yet and things are gettin' plenty interesting!
One more thing. Before they escorted me out, some planning for the end of the year was "accidently" overheard, and you guys in or near the top 10 need to gear up for the sprint to the finish of '06. Can't give any details yet ("they" are watching) but let's just say your efforts and support will be rewarded.
While the TPSA racers are taking this short break to prepare for the final two races of the season, rest assured that agent 660 will be looking for the latest news, rumors, and just plain gossip to report.

Rockey Keyes, a longtime Div 4 supergas/supercomp racer, passed away, Saturday August 5th, as a result of a racing incident. He lost his life doing what he loved, and lived his life doing what he loved. While, as racers, we understand and accept the risks involved in our sport, it is very rare for our "fraternity" to sustain a serious accident or fatality. In fact, this is the first fatality at Houston Raceway Park in it's 19 years of operation.
Services for Rockey will be held Friday, August 11th at 7pm at Crespo Funeral Home, located at 4136 Broadway St. Houston, TX 77087. The phone number to Crespo Funeral Home is 713-644-3831 and the web address is crespofunerals.com. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to DRAW or RFC in the name of Rockey.
Here is a link on Map Quest for Crespo Funeral Home:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Rockey's family and friends during this difficult time.

*****TPSA TOUR '06***** -- DH, 08/ 8/06 4:05pm
The season is winding down and only two races remain to determine the 2006 TPSA Top 10. The final two dates have been confirmed....mark your calendars accordingly! The Schedule page will be updated today. The dates are:
$ September 30th @ Pine Valley Raceway
$ October 14th *SEASON FINALE* @ Houston Motorsports Park
This allows plenty of time for everyone to get ready (maybe test '07's combo?) for the cooler air and killer track conditions that will be prevalent during the fall. See ya there.

****Quick Business Meeting**** -- DH, 08/ 8/06 12:04am
There appears to be some confusion regarding the race @ Houston Raceway Park this Saturday, August 12th. I've been receiving emails and phone calls regarding this event from fans, sponsors, and members wanting details and/or more information. Simply put, the promotion IS NOT a sanctioned TPSA event nor is TPSA connected with it in any capacity. Therefore, there won't be any TPSA officials onsite and I have no idea how many TPSA cars will be there. Eddie Conrad is helping the promoter and I understand they are basing a class around the existing TPSA rules. If they don't get enough cars to make a class, it will become a 5.0 Index race. I don't know if delay boxes etc. will be allowed if it's changed to an Index race or what rules will be in effect. If you need further information I suggest you call Eddie or the promoter.
The September 23 date @ HMP is on hold for the moment. That weekend is the NHRA National @ Ennis and some of the ProMods will be unavailable for HMP. I will be in touch with Mr. Baker this week regarding a new date that will accomodate us running with the ProMods and post that info ASAP. The September 30 date at Pine Valley Raceway will not be affected by this change.
A very interesting question was brought to my attention @ HMP regarding the rules pertaining to weight infractions compared with other dq's such as redlites. Straight from NHRA, if both cars are light in any round (except the final) BOTH are dq'd. If they're both light in the final, it would be rerun. If one car redlites and the other is light @ the scales, the car that redlit would be reinstated. Additionally, there is a zero tolerance policy on weight;ie, if the rules say your combo weighs 2400#'s, at 2399#'s you're out.
Rick, Donald, and I would like your feedback on the Champion's Banquet. Please call or email us and let us know if you enjoyed the Banquet last year, if you would like to do something different, suitable dates (Nov Dec Jan) or any suggestions or comments you might have. It's still early but we'd like to hear from each of you so that we can get your opinions before we start planning.
That's it for now...thanks for the great turnout @ HMP and some very close, exciting racing. Enjoy this short vacation and get those hotrods ready for "crunch time".. the final two races of the TPSA Tour '06. There's still plenty of rounds left to change the top ten around before the season ends. It will be interesting to see how the points shake out after races are dropped and the final points are tallied.
Let us hear from you regarding the Banquet..
