I want to preface this by saying that, while I am a fan of the series, I am not by any stretch a fanatic nor have I watched these films repeatedly like a lot of us have. I have seen every film on screen, some only once, some twice. I loved them as a kid and I remember a great deal about them. But what I remember mostly is that I enjoyed them for what they were and never cared to dissect them for meaning. They are the ultimate popcorn flicks to me and nothing more. I loved the original trilogy, I hated Phantom Menace and was indifferent to Attack of the Clones. That being said . . .

Call me naive but I truly enjoyed Revenge of the Sith. I thought the visuals (save for some of the obvious CGI) were stunning at times. I thought the acting was good to great in some cases (the Chancellor/Darth Sidious being just over-the-top evil fun). My only gripe about the film would be the crappy, pedestrian dialogue. Otherwise, I think I loved it.

I loved how the story was told and how the events leading up to the second half of the series was explained. The strangest thing was that I almost felt sympathetic to Anakin and felt that he was somewhat justified for going to the dark side. Obviously he was a victim of manipulation (arguably by both sides) but he honestly felt betrayed by those he respected most. Also, who can blame a guy for wanting to save the life of his wife and unborn children no matter what the cost? His downfall was his lust for power and that's what made him the bad guy but his other motives came off as genuine.

As an aside, Silk said that if Obi-Wan would have finished off Vader then it would have saved the planet a lot of heartache. Yeah and there wouldn't have been a second half of the series either. It's a little too late for that type of logic. So with that in mind, I thought that getting to those big plot points was just fun.

Wondering how Yoda and Sidious would escape their duel unharmed, wondering how Obi-Wan and Vader were going to live through their duel, wondering what it was going to take to get Anakin in that Vader suit, wondering how they were going to get Luke and Leia to their future destinations, how Obi-Wan and Yoda would get to their future destinations . . . and I liked the payoffs! I thought that Lucas could have really dropped trou and shit on all of these opportunities but he didn't. I thought he did a tremendous job of explaining these occurences and setting up the next half of the series and he did so as realistically as one could expect (given the fact that this film is set in another galaxy and a lot of common logic flies out the window for it).

When I left, I felt like it had come full circle and THAT was the purpose of this film. I thought it was excellent.
Feel free to throw flames at me. With this damned series you almost feel guilty for not being a fanatic diehard. I'm a casual fan of the series and I liked what they did with it. So kiss my ass. :)
