First i applaud you for trying to volunteer.
How can I say this. The last time we were having these debates it was suggested that a community patrol could be a great deterrent. From what I had gathered from parties involved it needed 10 people to get some police involvement or training. Am I wrong or did misinterpret that ? He fell short of getting that ten and I was told he only got half. If it was 6 or 7 I do not know but he fell short. People involved that I know were against the hoops being up and from what I got from them that was a general consensus. Could be bad info. If it is I am sorry. But the bottom line a good part of the ones screaming don't want to help out.
I hear a lot of these one bandage fixes all solutions. A security officer that gets paid to patrol. But we went down that road and correct me if I am wrong. And I maybe but did not the funding for that run low or out . I also think that was one of the reasons why we did not have the candles at christmas last year. Again that is hear say and I through it out as it may be relevant.
What we have to do is get involved if kids both neighborhood and other wise realize that we are a hands on community it becomes an effective deterrent. The cameras were effective until people found out that the images could not really help in some instances.
Personally I think this is going to take a multiple approach. Like patrols , gates , cameras etc..... Now the problem is. Is it cost effective or is it time to concede that this one particular amenity with all its attention is costing the homeowners to much. One more questions on the same lines ? How much more money are we going to sink into securing the common grounds when most of the activity is on the BB courts and not from our own kids ?
Again I will state I am not for them coming down. But push comes to shove if taken them down does solve the problem then that is what we should do.
