Th contestants aren't in the dark. Beautiful contestants, wonderful show. California could learn many things about professionalism of the Miss Texas Pageant. Webstream is crystal clear.

[> [> Subject: Southwest Video has nothing to do with the stage lighting. If it were up to them, there would be much brighter video-oriented lighting. As someone correctly pointed out below, more lighting = more $$$, which is why it is as dark as it is. One small fix that wouldn't cost much, if anything, is if they used the rear projection screen to project very light or bright backgrounds - outdoor scenes for swimsuit, famous landmarks for evening wear, bright geometrics or patterns for talent that coordinated with contestant's outfit, and bolder, more up-to-date typography that said Miss California Pageant. At least they had those white drapes rolling down from the ceiling this year. Every little bit helps.

[> Subject: Ask Saroyan Theater to purchase a $50K white curtain and backdrop set. I'm sure they'll do it right away so they can be just like Texas.

Better yet, maybe they can order the pink chiffon drapes with crown motifs.

[> Subject: The only thing they need to do at Miss CA is TURN ON THE LIGHTS on the stage. It's dark because the lights are off, not because of SW or any other video. Burn time = $$$$. That's why we have our show in the dark.

[> Subject: Based on this discussion, the only problem with the web stream appears to be the lighting. Is that accurate? Or were there other problems no one has talked about? If it is strictly a lighting issue, that is handled between Bob and the Saroyan. Or anyone Bob delegates and the Saroyan. And it will cost money. So, yes, MCO either finds a "presenting sponsor" for the webcast to fund the increased lighting charges, ups the ticket price, or finds another way to pay for the higher lighting fees.

[> Subject: While I know we have used Southwest video for some time now, I just think his equipment is very far from up to par to produce a high quality video and web stream. You have to use a hi-definition camera in order to view it in hi-def and his equipment is just ancient in terms of what's out there now. The quality of the DVDs is terrible, especially for how much they cost. While the equipment isn't the only issue, it's a good place to start - find a new videographer with updated cameras!

[> [> [> Subject: Wow. Rude and completely uncalled for. I'm far from a sore loser. I had a wonderful experience in this program and competed multiple times at the state level. I'm sure I'm not the only one thinks the videos are less than stellar. Have you watched them on a hi-def TV?

[> [> [> [> Subject: As I said before, this has little to do with the video. If the lighting were better you would have a better video. All one needs to do is compare the webstream to other states. It was piss poor. Don't blame the video company. Blame those who won't spend more money on decent lighting of that stage.

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: I agree. It seems very silly to blame the video company. Shooting a pageant or other event is an easy task. What makes it trying is when the stage lighting is less than ideal. This is the case with the Miss California Pageant. As an ED I know that stage lighting is important. It however is extremely costly. It is NOT the video companies responsibililty to provide lighting. It is always the responsibility of the event organizers.
