Author: Isobel, Barry, and knocked out Argus
Subject: Waiting for Valhorek
In reply to: Ravin 's message, "Gathered around the campfire" on 10:13:49 01/29/02 Tue

Isobel limped her way back to the campfire, muttering about the cabrón assassins. She winced as she sat down by the fire and stretched her leg out, prodding at her bleeding knee. "It is not as bad as it looks," she said to no one in particular.

She looked around the camp, noting the terrible damage that had been wrought. What could have done this? Was there some sort of earthquake? Or did the assassins have some very great power they had not known about? If so, why did they not use it before? Surely it would have been easier to take them out when they were in the pass in the mountains, or travelling to this area.

She glanced at the unconcscious Argus. "He attacked one of the assassins," she told Ravin as he sat down next to her. "He had a spell... I heard him say the words. Perhaps he is a mage." (She had been off napping when Argus had told his tale so she did not realize he had been a cleric of some sort.)

She accepted the flask of ale as Ravin passed it to her. Her first impulse was to tell him that she did not need to dull the pain in her leg... that she was fine. But she saw the concern in his face and nodded, taking two sips of the whiskey. She coughed only slightly (she was not used to drinking liquor of any sort and certainly not strong whiskey) and passed the flask back. "Thank you, Señor Ravin."

She looked at Ravin out of the corner of her eye and grinned. "Laurel makes a soft cushion for your... manliness?" She could not help but burst into laughter at the embarrassed look on his face.

Barry floated ahead of the group as the moved back to the campfire, keeping a close watch for more nasties. But he didn't see any. What he did see was a whole lot of destruction.

He let out a low whistle. "Looks like some giant just stomped this place flat," he commented.

He floated over to Corum. "Hey, Chief... you all right?" and turned to Yorik. "Glad to see ya in one piece, buddy. You're one guy who never loses his head in a tight situation. Oh, I crack me up!"

*~*~*~*~*~*

Argus was unconscious for the first time in a long, long time. This time there was no nothingness as there had been all the many times the monsters from the other world had killed him. This time, he dreamed.

Unfortunately, he dreamed about the monsters and just as they began to tear at his flesh he awoke screaming in terror.

He tried to sit up but his head pounded and he felt like he was going to vomit. He lay back down, groaning softly, and put a hand to his head. While he was in great discomfort, it was nothing compared to the agony of being shredded alive.

Someone must have killed the assassin he had been fighting. He wondered who it was, but his head hurt too much to ask anyone. He tried to sit up again, but lost consciousness once more.
