Subject: You are definitely right on the 13 scholarship players, but I believe the total roster cannot exceed 15. I may be wrong on that second point though. I am not sure if people know this, but women's basketball is allowed 15 scholarships per team. I believe it was part of Title IX that produced the disparity, though I cannot say if women's were increased or the men's were decreased. I am not against the ideas of Title IX, but I am vehemently against how it is administered and enforced.
In reply to: EC'71 's message, "I believe a D-1 program can have a maximum of 13 players on scholarship. This includes frosh, sophmores, juniors and seniors. I don't believe there are any restrictions on number of scholarship players for any class. For example, Fordham will have 6 sophmore scholarship players next year. I believe the maximum number of players on a roster including walkons cannot exceed 16." on Fri April 08, 2005 16:54:58

  • What is preventing the Ram Roundball team from havin' those thirteen scholarship players ? (NT) -- Just Askin', Fri April 08, 2005 22:33:55
  • Think about the transfers as well as Smush Parker and Adrian Walton. Considering that it is Whittenburg's 2nd year and the only remaining scholarship players from the days of he who shall not be mentioned are Mushon (graduating) and Jermaine Anderson, I'd say we are looking pretty decent right now. I'm sure once things are in place we will have our 13 scholarship players. (NT) -- Ram6it, Sat April 09, 2005 04:40:02
  • We will have 12 next year and could have 13 if the coaches chose to use the last remaining scholarship, but it does not make sense to use it just for the sake of having one more scholarship player on the team. (NT) -- ace93, Sat April 09, 2005 07:58:24
