• I consider the posts here on Binns and Greene to be mean-spirited and illogical. These guys are FRESHMEN! Are you kidding me? Let's keep a rational perspective on these 18-19 year olds.   • Nothing I've written is either mean-spirited or illogical. I'm well aware of who we're talking about although there are probably very few 18-year olds on the team and given that Michael played a year in prep school, he's at least 19, probably 20. I'm sure he's a good kid (DW hasn't brought in a bad kid yet) but I saw 7 of the last 9 games of the season and the guy struggled down the stretch. There's nothing wrong w/ honest an honest observation and there's nothing mean about it. If anything, you do him a disservice by over hyping him and making it nearly impossible to live up to your opinions of his abilities. (NT) -- bfg, Tue March 22, 2005 20:46:45
    • That evaluation of my statements on Binns is innacurate, to say the least. I have not in any way "hyped" Binns. In fact my statements here about him have been realistic and even-handed. He is a freshman college basketball player who had some rough going in his first two months as a player. Posters here have treated him like he's a failure already as a player. Is that fair or logical? Of course not. Try to keep this in perspective. This is a young man who is trying to do his best as a player and student at Fordham. I will say it again - Michael Binns has some talent and I believe he will be a solid contributor at Fordham in his four years here. (NT) -- Rambacker, Tue March 22, 2005 21:25:44
      • Then respond to the posters who have treated him like a failure. I don't think of him that way. I think he's a player who seems to have some skills but needs a lot of work to polish them. You responded to my post which would suggest that I was being unfair and/or illogical. My comments might be critical but based on his performance, they were justified. As I noted above, I don't think DW has recruited a bad kid and I'm sure than Michael is a good kid and I'm delighted he's at Fordham. That being said, it's not out of line to comment that he needs to work on his game alot in the off season. If for no other reason, w/ the players that are coming in next year, he's going to be pushed for PT. I hope he puts in the work he needs for his own sake. (NT) -- bfg, Tue March 22, 2005 22:44:00
        • Your posts on Binns and Greene are not the ones I'm referring to that were over the top. The reason I responded to your post was regarding your comment that I am doing Binns a "disservice" by "overhyping" him. I have never "overhyped" Binns - in fact I have said that he needs to improve his game. What I think is out of line is that several posters have gone out of their way to attack Binns, which is wrong.   • Rambacker, I hear where you are coming from, but I do not think that too many of these posts were mean spirited, though some were. I certainly do not think that mine were and since you do not pinpoint specific people it is hard to tell which posts you are referring to. I think both Binns and Greene are good kids, or young men, whichever is the preferred term. I see a lot more promise in Greene than Binns, but that is not to say that Binns does not have a lot of promise as well. The beauty of it all is that they still have 3 full seasons to continue to improve. When I think of players and how much they can improve I think of guys like Arseni Kuchinsky. When he first got here I think few of us could stomach his time on the court, but by the time he was done many of us were hoping the NCAA would give him his 4th year much like we did with Mushon this year.     • I just think we should err on the side of caution when criticizing freshman players on our team. Some of the posts were over the top and uncalled for. Let these young guys develop and let's give them a break. If they play badly as upperclasmen, then go for it. But let's go easy when they're just starting out.   • The point of the thread was to critique WH, and point out that he was flat wroing in his analysis. The purported almighty poster of the A-10. Having been to every home game this year and a few road games, his analysis of Binns & Greene could not be any further off the mark. We were not attempting to rip the freshment but rather point out that this WH is not the guru that some people seem to think he is.
