Subject: That is very true and despite the rivalry I think many here would be ok with the guy were it not for the antics. As for last year the rumor I heard was that he was at the top of the list at Miami and then tried to use St. John's' interest in him as a way of speeding Miami into a decision and it backfired. Miami consulted with St. John's who said they were not planning on interviewing him and Miami basically told him to get lost. One of Gonzales' big problems seems to be honesty, not that that is necessarily rare in the sports world. Just recently he vowed his loyalty to Manhattan College and then in the last day or two it came out that he intreviewed with UMass just last week. That does not sit well with those at MC, but it also does not help him with his potential suitors. The man can coach and he can recruit, so something else is definitely not working for him.
In reply to: SIram 's message, "If it is just his personality holding him back it is a shame. Putting aside the Fordham/MC rivalry Gonzo has done well there and deserves a shot at a bigger job. However as other posters have noted last year was the perfect time for him to move on." on Mon March 21, 2005 15:13:05
