Subject: As I understand the NCAA rule for non-sanctioned events, trips of this type are solely funded by the player & their family. No school & certainly no booster support is permitted. A good compliance dept. should ask the players the question - "Where's the money coming from for the trip?" If compliance doesn't receive a satisfactory answer, then they advise all that there may be an issue. Sounds like what has happened here (vs. USC where no one asked where Reggie Bush and his parents got their cars/house etc. - head in sand ignorance is no defense). Better this than being ruled ineligible in Dec.
