  • The turnover, as mentioned by Phil95, above is significantly higher at DU than at most other schools. I would like more stability, but the situation "Is what it is." One thought on Mel, he is painted in an unfavorable light sometimes and I'm not sure that is 100% based on fact. There were several situations with Mel which were never disclosed. Had the story come out Mel would not be viewed as he currently is. On the court, his "D" while not very good, did not stand out as horrendous as not much "D" was played by last years team.   This game could have and should have been a victory. Possibly would have been a season-changing one. Instead, it's more of the same in the end. McConnell played great for a first-year player. Last year Huggie Bear targeted Clark and took him out of the game and this year it was Saunders. WVU was ripe. In their prior game Huggie benched the starters for a long period because the weren't hustling. Some new starters last night but the lack of hustle persisted. It was there for the taking. Several areas the Dukes could have improved in (ie. free throw shooting) but the easiest road to victory would have been to keep Clark in the game. He is now in his fourth year of Courtney Wallace-like foolish fouling. Last night after an extended stint on the bench with four fouls he goes back into the game for the game-ending push and fouls out a minute and a half later. What could he have been thinking? And he graduated fron DU. No big inside presence hurt again. You can run mediocre teams off the court and win but good teams that can run and have a good inside game will not be beaten.

  • I don't see it happening for these reasons: (1) You are underestimating this team. Their ceiling is much higher than 13 - 15. The Dukes are in the midst of a tough stretch (esp. dealing w/ teams from the Big 6 conferences). But they are still very talented & have a bunch of good scorers on the squad. (2) As a whole this is a down yr for the A-10. Besides Richmond, no team really has done much to impress in the non-conference portion of the season. (3) Why would Evans want to redshirt?   • Looking at the 21 games left on the schedule I have a hard time finding a dozen more wins. I would love to be wrong. I can't see how adding a rehabbing EE to this mix will change this. There are not too many players that can miss the 1st dozen games & catch-up to opponents in mid-season form. EE might not see the immediate value of sitting out but, it seems like it is in the long-term interest of the program & player.     • the A10 is bad, if we cant get at least at .500 record, we are in bad shape. Other than Temple, there is not a team out there we cant beat, home or away. We need EE to play. That hardly means Talley wont get minutes, EE will need 5 games just to get back into shape. But he is still a key piece for this year and next.   I'm going to remain positive about this season until I see final scores that bother me.
  Losing to WVU by 3 does not bother me.
  On the other hand, that was not a final four team we played last night. That's not a final four team in the Big East Tournament.
  Losing to George Mason or IUPUI by 3 will bother me.
  It's been a long time since we've had a freshman guard tandem like TJ and Mike.
  I wonder how long teams will underestimate TJ's athletic ability. WVU actually looked like they were passing the ball to him a couple of times.
  We seem to have a difficult time competing in the second half of games. I don't know if this is mental or physical. Could be physical. It's one thing to be more fit in a cardio vascular sense. It's another to spend an hour having a who out weighs you by 20-30 pounds lean on you.
  If it's mental, this team needs a shrink. Probably need a shrink anyway to help with free throws.
  I know it's too late, but a note to Bill Clark - don't waste two files by reaching in 30 feet from the hoop.

  • IUPUI is a good team with a lot of experience playing against good teams; they led Ohio State by nine with around ten minutes to go; fouls were heavily favoring OSU; IUPUI shot only one foul shot until OSU took control.   Time to move on, gentlemen. Did a little research on the 'eers. Top scorers are Casey Mitchell 6-4 220 and Kevin Jones 6-8 260. Jones had 135 offensive boards last year and has an outside shot. Two top big men are Danny Jennigs 6-8 260 and Deniz Kilicli 6-9 270. And, of course, Joe Mazzulla. West Virginia is holding opponents to 37.8 percent shooting, including 32.4 percent from 3(uh-oh). Looks like our shooting better be on dead-on (can we please set some screens for T.J. and Mike Talley? I fear that we may be crushed on the boards. Go Dukes!

  • Wonder if the delay in starting the 2nd half any do with the way it played out. W.V.U. got to shoot around for 10 minutes while we did nothing and then they gave us one minute for a lay up drill after the hoop was fixed.   • I remember he was supposed to be a PG who could shoot the 3. People said he'd beat out Clayton Adams at PG his freshman year. I believe he got hurt early and redshirted. He did play in 91-92 and is still third all time in single-season 3-PT FG% and 3-PT FGs made, but he didn't have too much else to his game. Turned it over a lot, didn't play defense, got into foul trouble easily, couldn't run the offense. I guess that describes a lot of players who've come through Duquesne over the years. We are not considered to be a good basketball program. Before RE got here, we were a laughing stock. No more- we can beat many teams. On the KDKA news last night, they didn't even give our score.
