20 minute running clock. Evans was at an academic conf. (I think)and didn't play. Not a lot of offense the score was in the twenties. Bolding and Marhold looked the best to me. Marhold and Johnson should both be able to contribute this year. Peggau seemed healthy to me and played hard. Free throw shooting was weak and we didn't hit too many 3's. Everyone played hard on the defensive.

  - Just a point to remember, Williams doesn't need to move like Saunders, or run like Bolding, just get into position and get rebounds. Most big guys are gentle-giants, and don't move well. He's tall and in the right situations he will be effective. Rodrigo big and has the instinct for the ball, they both will be needed this season. Williams is just a part of the puzzle, he's not needed to be the guy that carries the team.         Thank you (and mtjames above). I don't recall anyone on this Board suggesting Williams would project into anything but a serviceable big man who is part of an established system. He has good coaches, who by the way did a great job with a raw Lewinson last year. Between Mike, Ollie and Theis, we now have 15 fouls to belly up against a good big man. And let me give you exhibit B, Kieran Achara, who became a much better player under Everhart than he was under Nee. - JD was not Ron's first choice late in games last year when opponents tend to go small&speed to force t/o. Duty was replaced by Evans late in games. On other hand, when behind late Ron kept him in for his three and FT shooting. This year look for JD to take it to the glass and work to become a more complete player as AJ did last. It would be a good time for Pennsylvania to pick up the World Sreies title to go along with the Stanley Cup, NIT, and Super Bowl championships. However, Yankees fans seem very confident. The fans feel the best two teams met in the AL Championship. Word out of New York is Yankees in 3!

  - The Phillies will be difficult "out" for the Yanks; they are a proven champion with a deep and talented lineup; with grit and toughness that the Yanks haven't seen in either of their AL opponents. The Phillies are menatally tough; and will not be intimidated. If the Phils can get another great performance out of Pedro and Hamels; they can win; assuming Cliff Lee is solid; their pitching depth is the only question. That's how I see it. - The Phillies once played in Baker Bowl, which was on Broad Street about halfway between La Salle and Temple. They had a big billboard out next to the right field bleachers that read in capital letters "THE PHILLIES USE LIFEBOUY SOAP". I'm probably a little slow on the uptake, but I just realized that while we are a part of the CBE tournament, the CBE isn't actually a tournament. The semifinals have already been determined so that the four hosts automatically qualify, even if they go 0-3 and a small Catholic school from Pittsburgh goes 3-0 beating vaunted Iowa (15-17, 5-13, good for 10th in the Big 10).

Does anyone know if the CBE has always operated like this, or is this something new. Most of the other early season 'tournaments' allow the winning team's to advance, and if memory serves the post season ending tournaments do as well.

And beyond that, how did Cullowhee, NC end up being the host of the sub-regional tournament. How is Duquesne, featuring the only decent, non-scandal ridden, team in a market (not just a big market, or mid-major market or small market, just a market period) not get to be the host of the three day meaningless sub-tournament?

So we decided to play in a non-tournament tournament, plus three games against RPI killers in Cullowhee, NC for a 'televised' game on ESPNU which most bars don't even get (The 17 year old college basketball prospect that hangs out on Monday-Wednesday nights are going to end up going to our opponent Binghamton anyway)?

  - That's right, Paddy. In addition, the CBE plan was to have the post sub-regionals in a nice, tourist type warm weather location (last year there were 2 locations in FL). This year, sub-regionals are being held in Cullowhee, NC & Richmond, KY. Wow! In addition, they couldn't even fill out the bracket with D-1 teams (Arkansas Monticello). It looks like the Gazelle Group, sponsors of the CBE and other tourneys, have a history of overpromising and underdelivering.     - Does playing Arkansas - Monticello hurt us since they are Div II? I don't believe that games against D-II teams are counted for or against you.   - This is technically not a "tournament", but a MTE - a multi-team event. It is also an exempt tournament in the eyes of the NCAA. The NCAA lets teams play 29 regular season games. However, schools can up that number to 30 or 31 by playing in an exempt event (27 single regular season games, plus 3 or 4 in the event). So we are getting to play a couple of extra games by participating in the CBE. The good news is that we can't participate again in the CBE for another 5 years. Wasn't looking too good last year at this time our 5 top scorers had graduated and we were loaded with freshman.The most optimistic fans didn't have us with a winning record. This year we're picked 5th to 7th. I'm thinking they're selling us short again. I'm thinking 3rd place is a possibility.

My season tix arrive. I am in East Igloo 1 for the Pitt game. I am satisified with those.

I am disappointed in the location of the extra tickets I bought. I sent in the form the day after it was available. The extra tickets I bought are in Row K of Section C-9.

I wonder if we have one side of the club seats and the Pitt fans have the other side of the club seats. I thought with the number of season ticket holders we have and the timing of when I sent in the request, the extra tickets would be better seats.

I guess the other club seats are for the Golden Panthers.

- Actually, this is the worst type of team to play. A tough team who might beat you, but who's lack of name recognition will make it look like a horrible loss.     - Their RPI's aren't what matter, if we beat them what will our RPI be? If we beat Iowa, our RPI for the game would have been 0.6234, vs Nicholls St at 0.6664. That difference on average is 12 spots higher in the RPI by playing Nicholls St. vs Iowa (even though Iowa had a higher RPI). Hence, the problems with the RPI you alluded to earlier, and the way to game the system. Also, I'm not as worried about image as others are. I cannot tell you how many times I got goosebumps from reliving the magic of last season all over again. While running some errands yesterday afternoon I had the radio tuned to my second-favorite NFL team, the New England Patriots. As most of you know, they were playing your least favorite team, the Baltimore Ravens. Leigh Bodden had just picked off a Joe Flacco pass. The venerable voice of the Patriots, Gil Santos, remarked it was the Pats first pick in the young four-game season. He also remarked that Bodden was undrafted out of Duquesne, �a school more known for its basketball�.

Gee Gil, thanks for noticing. I expect you�ll be hearing the name of Duquesne University a little more in the years to come.

- The women's LAX team played ND, Northwestern, Ohio State, & Cinn. last year and lost all 4 games. This is a very tough OOC schedule. Beginning in 2010, a new format will be in place for the A-10 Men�s Basketball Championship. The top 12 teams will qualify for the Championship; however the opening round games will be hosted on the campuses of teams seeded #5, #6, #7, and #8 on Tuesday, March 9, 2010. The top four seeded teams (#1-#4) will again receive a bye into the quarterfinal round, scheduled for Friday, March 12, 2010. Semifinal action will take place on Saturday, March 13 with the Championship game held on Sunday, March 14, and televised live at 1:00pm on CBS Sports for the first time in A-10 history.

Maybe starting in 2011, the Dukes can hold their home game in Consul Arena to accomodate more fans for the A10 Tournament? I think it would definitely help the program especially with recruiting to get more exposure.

        I like the home-court advantage, as the Thursday games were sparsly attended unless TU/LaS/SJU had a night game, or Dayton/Xavier was in the first round. This should help both attendance and cut costs (travel, rent). While I liked the slotting before the BE tourney on Sat. night (especially when our games went over the allotted time), this isn't bad. I do think there will be around the same exposure because of the ACC tourney as well as the west coast (it's 10AM there on a Sunday). As for seeding, it will be at most a drop of a line or two.         Yes the ACC game has been at 1 pm on Sunday (on ESPN) for a good while. Last year the title game was on ESPN2 at 6 pm opposite the Big 12, who moved their game to Saturday and took our spot in the ESPN lineup essentially. Getting it on CBS, moving it to Sunday will increase the visibility of the game, there are fewer games that day for everyone to watch, and you get the upgrade in network. I don't think these are earth-shattering, but...

1. Even if our new big guys turn out to be busts, Bill Clark should not be moved to the 4 at any point, as happened last year, unless every other candidate is a stiff. Playing that position undersized is what lead to his foul troubles, and we need to keep him in games... If Saunders must play underneath, someone like Marhold will have to take the 4.

2. If our big guys ARE servicable, then Saunders and Clark should really shine since they're going to play in their natural positions.

3. Ball control from the guards is going to be huge, especially after the kind of plays that AJax would make.

4. Who gets the ball at the end of the game when we need a shot?

Members get their barcodes scanned at each event they go to. Each event is worth certain points. Once you accumulate enough points, you get a prize. The more points you get the better the prizes are.
