- What does it mean when they offer a $10k scholarship? Is this where we would fund a $10k scholarship at their university, vs paying $10k from athletics budget. I wonder, because when I contribute, I always indicate "campus priorities" so my employer will match (and indicate I'm a big fan of the Dukes in the comments section) - they won't match if I give to "athletics dept."     - Bilgy, after PSU left the A-10 we still played them for a couple of seasons, partly because they had trouble filling out a schedule. It only lasted 2-3 years and I'm too lazy to research it. I think they had a transition year between the A-10 and the Little-10 where they really struggled to line up opponents we we played them twice. There was a rich tradition, I went to Civic Arena games when there were 8,500 in a 10,000 seat arena in the middle of the week.         Agreed there. I was just taking Butler out of a variety of teams that don't have D1A football to show a point. I could just as easily have said Dayton, UMass, St. Joe's, Cleveland St., etc. Just my thoughts that the BE could do slightly better, though I only do see 5-6 other names that have a media market and a current quality team in the BE region. I would love it if we could join...I'd be jumping at the first chance we had. And if/when a split does occur, let's hope we're good enough to get in.         The BE has 9 members that play BE hoops but not BE football. All 9 are private, catholic, and in large media markets (except ND which is catholic & small-market but with a national following). Du fits the profile. Butler is noncatholic. Dayton is small market, UMass & Cleve. St. are noncatholic public schools, St. Joe's would be vetoed by Nova. If we maintain a strong program, we'll be an obvious choice.         Proposal wasn't to Break up the BE, right, just to formalize the bi-valve nature of the basketball only schools. BB-Only schools wouldn't get a say in how the FB wing was run, but that doesn't mean the two-sport schools would surrender their vote on what happened regarding who became members just because they were in the BB-Only wing.       - It still matters. National advertisers will only consider placing ads on events that go into the larger markets. Market size does not guarantee national advertising but it does not hurt. A revised Big East with DU (just pondering) would say to national advertisers we have NY-#1, Boston-#4 etc Pgh - #23. If the football BE school bolt, I still look for them to take Villanova, Georgetown, and possibly St. Johns with them to preserve TV presence in those markets.         My guess would be if the football conference broke they'd try to steal Memphis, maybe East Carolina, Central Florida, or 1-2 others. - I posted the article here because I found it interesting, but not surprising, that the author included Duquesne. He's balancing program potential with media market. Duquesne becomes more obvious when you consider potential, media market and league footprint.   - This discussion of the possible realignment of the Big East to perhaps include a division of all Catholic non-D-1 football colleges reminds me of former Duquesne Coach Mike Rice's advocacy for an all Catholic school conference, including Notre Dame, back in the late 1970s. I made a new A-10 forum similar to CAAzone or other forums designed to serve an entire league. There was a long thread on the current A-10 forum about whether or not a new forum was needed, so I figured what the hell and made one.

I'm not trying to take posters away from xavierhoops.com by any means (I'm certainly not leaving behind ninernation.net as I consider it my internet home), I just think its an embarrassment that a league the caliber of the A-10 has to depend on a generic basketball forum such as the one we do now. Each team has a forum and a subforum for recruiting, so it will make keeping up with A-10 teams and their recruits much easier.

If it gets off the ground, I'll change the name to simply A10Talk.com, but for now it's going to stay at its current URL. It's not terribly long anyway. I will also get rid of the ads if membership takes off.

I'd also like to eventually tie in an actual site with user submitted pieces from each school about games, recruiting, and just general school news on a main page.

I will eventually be making skins for each school so the board can be more customizable for fans of every team. I also need moderators from each school to help keep balance.

I have only posted on NinerNation and Xaiverhoops so far, so there are only niner, xavier, and a few other fans at the moment and I would like that to change.

Hope to see some of you guys there.

- That's because the focus was on our athletic success, and our athletes. We had unprecedented success in men's and women's basketball, there are some great quotes about the national attention that we have received as a result, and the recognition in the magazine is also worth celebrating. The message is: a successful athletic program, beginning with basketball, is important to Duquesne, and it is reaping benefits. There will be time to talk about Palumbo renovations later. I am impressed by the fund raising activity. They struck while the iron is hot.

And I upgraded my tix to the blue seats. Movin on up to the East side. To a deluxe blue seat in the sky!

In case you are not aware, there will be fundraiser for the DAF on Thursday, May 28th at the Rivers Club in Oxford Center from 6-9PM. The cost is $250 and both Ron and Greg will be there. Ron will get a PG. I can't see him with only one true PG going into next season - Evans. Duty is a shooting guard, a good one, but he cannot handle the PG position for an extended period if Evans goes down or gets in foul trouble. This is a given. So we have one more leaving soon. I really like the depth we are building. Once we get a PG, it will be complete.

Freshmen forwards Shawntez Patterson and Aleksandar Milovic have been released from their basketball scholarships at Duquesne, clearing the way for them to transfer.

"I met with Shawntez and Aleks individually and in both cases it was agreed that it would be best to pursue other opportunities," coach Ron Everhart said in a statement released by the school today. "We will do whatever we can to help them find a place where they can continue their education and their basketball careers."

Patterson, from Detroit's Northwestern High School, played in five games this past season. Milovic, from Cetinje, Montenegro, appeared in eight games.

I still think Eric Evans is going to be a great PG and leader for the Dukes. When he and Bolding signed I predicted they would be "the face of the Dukes." I still stand by that.

Eric can do everything. I see him stepping up big time this year.

I am also the knucklehead (my word) who used the expression "The best PG on the Bluff since Nixon." I used that in reference to Aaron Jackson. And again I say, he was indeed the best PG we've had on the Bluff since Stormin' Norman.

Congratulations to Captain Jason Duty. Yes, Captain. He means that much to the program.

I suspect the official announcemnt of any signing/transfer will come after our current player is officially accepted at his next destination.

Say what you want about RE and the program, I see this as a positive, that Ron handles things in a classy manner.

Whoever is transferring, it's no doubt some kid that I really like, because I like the whole team, who has worked hard and who deserves the opportunity to be successful in life and basketball.

Things have been quiet around here since the fake rumors of Patterson and Theis transferring. Marhold signed, and we've been loosely connected with a handful of guys who have gone elsewhere for the most part. Not that it matters because they can commit whenever, but the signing window is coming to a close. I'm beginning to think that maybe we are going to have a quiet off season.

Personally, I'll be happy if their are no changes this summer. To me, that signifies that our program has moved beyond the "wait until next class mentality," and the turbulent transition to winning facilitated by RE. I've always followed recruiting very closely because I feel like any hope we had started and ended with whomever was coming in the next year. I know it might be too early to make this call but the program appears to be stabilizing under Ron. We have enough depth and experience now that we can be competitive with the players already on the roster.

I don't anticipate this post to generate buzz or encourage posts. Maybe, we should start talking about Swine Flu.
