In reply to: Seen on Miltenberger St 's message, "Isnt that kind of stuff expected these days? Coaches have to go thru that at all schools I would guess. If he understands that, then it wont be a big deal." on Friday, August 06, 01:08:47pm

And first, all reporters are trying to do their jobs, which means getting stories before someone else does. Coaches do get that, I believe.

But if someone is leaking information:
1. at an inappropriate time, or,
B. and is an inappropriate source for such information,
then I would understand if Ron were irked by this.

I have often chided DU for being so slow to release information, but the truth is that there is sometimes logic behind the timing of announcements.

Quick example: I saw a secretary get fired once for inadvertantly pushing out an internal announcement about someone being promoted into his boss's position one day earlier than the planned announcement date. The problem with the earlier release was that the promoted guy's boss hadn't been told yet that he was leaving the company (he found out via the announcement).

In our case, no one is leaving to make room for the new assistant. But there may, for example, be other candidates who haven't been told yet that they are no longer in the running. Reporters don't always think about the consequence of such things because they are focused only on doing their own job.

It also happens, on occasion, that a reporter is given embargoed information and asked to wait for an OK sign to put anything into print. I've done this many times, usually with ggod results. Once I got burned by a knucklehead trying to make a name for himself. So personally, I'm now even more careful how I handle these things.

Remember too that Ron wasn't all that pleased the way Bolding's exit was announced, timing-wise.

Just saying: there's more than meets the eye with these things, sometimes.
