Subject: Ask the Trib and Russ Grimm. It may not be a done deal from Duquesne's perspective vs. Crawford's perspective. It may be as simple as the hiring process which probably includes a pretty extensive background check has not been completely wrapped up. Would you rather the Dukes announce the hire and then rescind it because of some issue they found in his background or resume? You seem to want it both ways.
In reply to: MFE08 's message, "The original announcement was buried in an article about Mountain State's closing that I dug up... if they'd announce things when they happen they wouldn't have this problem. Clearly it was enough of a done deal for Crawford to talk about it and for it to be in this article. What are they waiting for?" on Sunday, August 08, 10:36:32pm

  • Could be other candidates weren't informed yet. Could be a new candidate emerged. Could be Ron doesn't have "board approval" (whatever that is in academia). Could be a lot of things. Personnel decisions should be announced when all the t's are dotted and i's are crossed. Beyond embarrassment and hurt feelings, legal issues are always a possibility. But ... I'm just the 800 pound PR guy in the room. (NT) -- El Duque, Monday, August 09, 11:11:56am
  • It's clear you don't like the way that the profession is... people get and keep jobs by their ability to get the stories. Perhaps that's why you got out of papers (just guessing based on what you've said)? Regardless, DU's media prowess reeks of a school that is still in the doldrums and they need to catch up. They have shown zero ability to control a story. DU needs better PR to show how things are improved, not to languish while other cities' papers and other schools reveal info about DU before anyone in Pittsburgh knows it.
