Subject: RNEC Semi-Final: St Columba 15 Argaum Chiefs 0

St Columba are through to the final of the RNEC Cup and a date with Saltash at The Rectory next month after grinding down Argaum in their semi-final.

The game, already postponed once, kicked off late due to traffic congestion which made Argaum late arriving.

When the match did get under way it was Columba who were first to settle and on six minutes they went ahead when Argaum went offside and Dave Oakley landed the penalty.

Columba gradually got on top of the game and stretched that lead on 25 minutes with a try from number eight Pete Hodgkinson, who picked up and drove over from the base of a close-in scrum. Oakley converted.

That made it 10-0 and that's how it stayed up until half time.

The killer score to Argaum's hopes came almost straight from the restart when Columba worked their way back up field for prop Mike Grieve to claim his first try for the club.

Argaum seldom threatened again and the second half fizzled out into a scrappy affair, not helped by heavy conditions under foot.
