Subject: Graeylin's Military Trivia

Well, I guess Friday's question was pretty easy, as everyone knew that the famous "quitter" in question was Evan Carlson.

We also managed a correct answer to the Allied Powers of WWI. The major Allied powers in World War I were Great Britain, France, and the Russian Empire. Other countries that had been, or came to be, allied by treaty to one or more of those powers were also called Allies: Portugal and Japan and Italy.

Other countries—including the United States were called “Associated Powers,” not Allied powers; U.S. President Woodrow Wilson emphasized that distinction to preserve America’s free hand.

And, just to wrap things up, and start the week fresh: Douglas MacArthur's first taste of the enemy was as a child, a toddler, in fact, when the fort his family lived in was attacked by Native Americans. Young Douglas watched as the Native Indians raided the fort, unsuccessfully.

Today's question:

What US Commander-in-Chief served his country as an enlisted man only, NEVER as an Officer?
