In terms of journeys, Xander’s was undoubtedly the least impressive, almost non-existent, in the Buffyverse. The most I can say is that he did tend to dress better but that journey was more suitable to Sex in the City than Buffy. He was still the same judgmental, self righteous, emotional coward that he always had been. The fact that his reaction to the death of the supposed love of his life was a typical sophomoric joke indicated to me that he had not grown in any appreciable matter. Compared to Angel, Spike, Willow, Wesley, Buffy, Anya, Darla, even loony Drusilla, he was pretty much stationary. Take away his suits and you could have dropped him back in season 1 with no noticeable discordance.
