In reply to: Duncan McGregor Tompkins 's message, "PLM 13" on Saturday, January 26, 10:23:13pm

Duncan, I served on the PLM13 as a cabin boy in 1941. It was a single trip to Wabana, Bell Isle, Newfoundland, we were outbound in ballast from Port Talbot, S Wales. Returned with cargo of iron ore to Cardiff.
The PLM13 was a coal ship belonging to the Paris Lyon Marselles Railway Company, which was aquired by the British since she was in a British port at the time of the fall of France. I think she was around 5000 tons.
The return trip was made in convoy SC42 which was attacked by a wolf pack off the coast of Greenland as described in book "The battle of the Atlantic" by Donald Macintyre. War History 0 330 269879. I would like to know if she survived the war, maybe you could help me in this.
She was funnel aft,and when rigged with gang planks across the hatches looked very much like a small tanker.
Regards Richard
