I served in the Fort Carillon in 1949. It's a long time ago now, and my memory seems to have few gaps! I know that we (deck crew) lived on the port side aft. I remember the accomodation down below. I was in a 4-berth cabin at he foot of the stairs.There was a big messroom above. but I have no recollection of the washing/toilet arrangement. I'm sure that we had no bath or shower, so it was a bucket and steampipe setup. Can anybody help with this? It's annoying not to remember stuff is it not?
