Kel,
I have the very same problem you do. I would always eat when something stressful happened to me. I would always think to myself that I could handle anything as long as I could stop and have McDonald's at lunch or have ice cream when I got home from work. I know this sounds funny but, you know how Popeye would eat spinach and be able to have a lot of power and do whatever he wanted? Well that's what fast food and ice cream would do for me. I felt like I could accomplish anything and all my stress would just melt away as the ice cream melted in my mouth.
Well, I knew I had to do something about it- because I didn't want to just keep gaining weight. And, because I was on the ATkins plan a few years ago and did so well- I thought I would try it again. I know that other diets just don't work for me or, at least they work at first and then I get bored and start craving that ice cream and fast food again.
Well, my brother's wedding is September 14, 2002 and I'm one of the bridesmaids. It really is my goal to lose 20-30 lbs. by then. I've already lost 8. I was doing really well on ATkins but finding myself having about 30-40 carbs a day and then I feel guilty because I know I should have stayed at 20 carbs or under. It's hard though, even just sticking with meats, cheeses, eggs and low carb veggies. I've also been doing situps and riding my exercise bike 15 minutes a day. I've also been walking 1-2 miles a day. I know the walking is really helping me to lose weight. I will admit, the last 3 days I haven't been very strict to the diet. I've been around a lot of people eating pizza, egg rolls, elephant ears (at the 4th of July festival). I'm still making sure that I walk every day no matter what. And even though, I've been cheating at dinnertime the last 3 days- I've still been eating low carb for breakfast and lunch. I think starting tomorrow I'm going to write down everything I eat and really pay attention so that I can get back on track again. I know that as long as I eat all low carb and walk I should be able to lose 20-30 lbs by my brother's wedding.
So Kel, is it very easy to keep track of the grams of protein you eat everyday also? Can you give me an example menu of what you might eat in 1 day? So, is this low carb plan you're on called Protein Power?
When I was on ATkins a few years ago, my boss was really inspired when she saw how well I did on it. She read the book and said it just sounded too strict for her. So, she bought the protein power book and followed that plan because she said she could still eat fruit and have more carbs than Atkins. She lost like 65 lbs. in about 8 months and that was with a little cheating here and there. She also did not like water, so she just drank diet cokes all the time. She has still kept the weight off because she will always watch her carb intake.
Well, before I started atkins a few weeks ago, I actually tried CAD for a few days. I really liked that plan also, but wasn't losing weight as fast as I know I could on Atkins. So, what I thought I would do is do Atkins and then for situations when I'm with family or friends and you have to eat some carbs- I'm going to eat CAD dinners. This shouldn't happen too often, but if I eat the balanced dinner it will at least stop me from gaining any weight back.

Well, Kel I think I'm going to try to 40 carbs 90 grams of protein per day and see how that goes.

Thanks for the inspiration!
Heather
