I am assuming you husband is listed as a co-owner on the car and loan since you need him to sign off on it.

Does your SO have good credit?

If so tell your husband that you have decided to quit making payments on the car and that you are going to let the bank reposess it. This will be very damaging to both of your credit ratings. He may then be persuaded to sign the papers for you.

Of course this wont work if the car is paid off. If it is paid off and it is a piece of junk like you say it may not be worth much in trade. Most times you can get a better deal from a dealer without a trade in. Also since this is the end of the model year lots of car companys have great incentives and some dont even require a downpayment.

If you follow this route make sure to abandon theold car along a roda somewhere and make sure that your husbands name and address is easily noticeable on the registration tags when the police find it :)
