Subject: It is possible to lose inches and not weight, particularly if you are gaining muscle (because muscle is heavier than fat). Going up one pound isn't anything to worry about, it could be extra salt caused extra water retention that day.

What might make it more reassuring to you is to weigh every day and "average" your weight for the week. That way all the little bumps are smoothed out.

Women tend to have heavy days and light days depending on your cycle. It is possible to gain 4 pounds in the space of one afternoon (particularly if you are eating a lot of salt). But the overall trend should be downward if you are sticking to plan and not cheating.

If you don't have much weight to lose, you may lose slower. If you take female hormones the diet can slow down on you as well. More than likely you are just experiencing normal variations. Don't worry about it yet.

  • It's normal to have a "pause" after induction. Also, if you're body had been deprived of protein prior to changing to this WOE, your body will be busy building new muscle. This muscle gain can mask fat loss. Since you started recently, take your measurements now, so that you can track your progress more readily. (NT) -- Katie, 08:29:13 06/10/02 Mon
