• Sorry to hear about your headaches Denise...Good luck with the doctor tomorrow....I've got an appointment in the morning too, mine is just for a routine BP check but I do want him to also check out my neck, I think I still have a slight swollen gland...

  • Doc started me on Lyrica to try for 2 weeks. I'd not heard it used for this but most drugs that come out end up being used for way more than they were developed for. Sandy, you still using this? Had a headache by the time I saw the doc and it's still here! This is getting as old as this cruddy weather! Hope your bp is good Kate. I've been on emds for years, was able to go to half the dose I took for a long time and bp is averages 117/ 70. You DID get snow! More than us.     • Well the "good news" is my doctor isn't overly worried about my BP...BUT the bad news is it was 170/90!!! He isn't overly concerned because he is happy with my weight my exercise routine, but obviously he wants it down some. So, I have to take it regularly at home ( I was supposed to do this since the last appointment but kind of got lax...) and call it in to the office for a month then go back in April. He is thinking that I may be becoming immune to the meds and he will have to up my dosage...so we'll see!!!

      • Jeesh Kate! When I started meds mine was 154/100. It took 4 med changes till I found one that worked and didn't make me feel blah. I also started taking it at bedtime so any blahness wore off by morning. Then a neurologist changed my meds to one that was supposed to help with headaches and it worked for several years but now the headaches again so I think if this new med doesn't help I am going to ave to start at square one again (like many years ago) and see a neuro again. Doc ordered a MRI several months ago, that showed nothing and I have labs done regularly cause of my heart and meds I'm on and nothing there so I just don't know.         • Right now he only has me on a 5mg tablet...cause he likes to start out with the minimum needed then work up if need be..so I'm thinking (and so is he) that he'll be bumping up the mg's in April. About the only reason I can think of that may have made mine so high yesterday was I had taken a couple of sinus tabs the night before for a sinus headache...maybe that elevated the BP too....I forgot to mention that to the doctor yesterday...???
          It's wonderful they have so many drugs to help people, but the hard part is getting them regulated to work for each individual!! Sure hope you can find some relief.... (NT) -- Kate, 5:43:10 am, Thu, 02/28/08

    • Denise, I went off of the Lyrica about a month ago. I just couldn't tolerate it and it was messing with the vision.......blurry and unable to focus. Now he's got me on a low dose of Gabitril, which is normally used for seizures so he's prescribing off label. He had said that if I can tolerate this med, he'll up the dosage at my next visit. I can't tell any difference in how I feel but one of the side effects of this medication, which is to treat seizures, IS seizures, so I'm being very cautious. I'm just so darn tired of hurting all the time. Taking all of this medication just doesn't seem worth it. (NT) -- Sandy, 6:49:48 am, Thu, 02/28/08
      • As for healing, nope, not yet. My wrist still aches constantly so I wear the brace unless I'm in water, such as doing dishes or whatever. And I've only got one small area on my foot that's still black and blue but boy, that still hurts a lot. Played pool Tuesday night and was in agony, trying to limp around the table. And it's hard to make a "bridge" when you're shooting if your wrist aches and you can't move it certain ways. (and yes, I did lose my match!) Had a bad night last night and woke up tired and nauseous but I've got a dental appt. this afternoon. Saw my GYN on Monday and got an all-clear from him. But it's been a darn long week. • Hi ladies, so sorry ot hear about all your troubles. Sure hope they can all be figured out and corrected soon! My only REAL problem seems to be FAT which is about to be changed, YIPEEEE. My lap-band surgery is scheduled for 3/24. I'll be in San Diego for it. My insurance doesn't pay, so I had to find the place I could trust the most that had the best price. I can't wait. Hopefully, all my aches and pains will disappear along with the weight. I just thought of something, it's funny, usually fat people have high blood pressure but mine is low, always has been, and probably always will be. I'm lucky in that way.   • Wow Ramona....so you've got the procedure scheduled? I'm glad for you and that you are so excited...and I hate to put a "damper" on your enthusiam..but I was wondering, I know this procedure can help you to lose weight, but do they also have counseling or anything to help you learn to eat healthier? So that you just don't go back to your old eating habits and gain it back again? Sorry, I'm not trying to be mean here, I guess I just know for me I needed the help in learning why I ate the way I did and also to learn to pick healthy foods....but mostly I needed to learn that I very rarely ate because I was hungry, it was usually because I was depressed, tired, bored or whatever....do they help you with any of these kind of issues?     • Of course, there is a whole program you have to go through. A nutritionist, a psychologist, batiatrician, monthly support meetings, pre-admin testing, plus I have already been on the very strict Atkins diet for 2 weeks now. YOu are required to lose weight before you can have it done. I already know why I eat too much. It's not emotional for me, I simply love food. Also, I won't really be able to go back to my old eating habit. My stomach will be too small. Please remember, this is not the dangerous gastric bypass, it is the lap band. Minor laporoscopic surgery. And I know you aren't being mean, I DO appreciate your concern. Really, I do.       • I forgot to mention, I am on Atkins because I have to get used to protein because if I don't want my hair to fall out after surgey, I need to get lots of protein, which is another way of keeping me on track.       • I'm glad to hear they do have support groups and also some programs that you have to finish before the procedure.....I realize this isn't the same thing that Lucy had, and definitely not as dangerous...but I do have to ask, even though your stomach is made smaller, and you have to watch what you eat, it is still possible to gain the weight back again if you don't follow the correct diet, am I right? Hey I definetly wish you all the best...will you please have Neil or someone post for you after your surgery so we know that everything is fine, or have him e-mail one of us?   • So you got it scheduled, huh? Is there any particular reason that you're going to San Diego, other than price? Do you know anyone there?     • Yup, and thanks, but don't worry, I'll recover. This isn't like gastric where the death rate is so high (I will never foget Lucy) no-one has died from this. I picked San Diego because I want the top doctor in this field working on me. He has performed over 5000 of these. He is the doctor who taught all the other doctors how to do it. Most of the other doctors have only performed 200-300 hundred so far. So, you can see why I picked him. My sister is doing great after hers. 30 pounds lost since Christmas. My step-daughter on the other hand isn't doing so good. She lost 26 pounds but that is since November. She has a new obsession with chocolate, so that isn't helping.
