Subject: Jazpurr, lung tumor? I copied and pasted from another board, didn't have the energy to rewrite it.

Jazpurr is the kitty that in April and July had breathing troubles. He's been breathing hard lately, I've been giving Lasix but the heaving sides didn't seem improved. In April he wasn't able to walk very far, stayed at the vets for 3 days and came home on meds. In July they did an x-ray and he came home with meds. With the weekend and holidays running together I figured I better take him in.

His only symptom is labored breathing and thus lower energy level but he is eating, coming upstairs, jumping up to sit on my lap...no cough.

Well, today's x-ray shows even less lung function than in July. It looks like 1/4 to 1/3 of both lungs is functioning. Vet thinks it's fluid cause he can hear lung sounds and if it were a mass that he wouldn't be able to ehar the lungs and heart as well as he did, BUT he thinks there must be a tumor in there that is making this fluid. His exact words "this isn't good".

You all know how we don't ask all the questions we should cause we didn't know ahead of time what we were going to hear so I feel pretty stupid and all I know is that his heart sounds good, he doesn't think it's heart failure, his labs all looked good, no infection, everything functioning properly. He really thought something would show up in the labs that might indicated the source of the problem.

Came home with injectable Lasix cause it works better. Jaz has had his first shot and now I just watch him. I've been doing some reading and it doesn't sound good but I also have questions I will ask next week and maybe go to the vet school. For now pray that the meds give him some relief (maybe in 2-3 days supposedly) and pray I know what to do and who to see next week?

Another vet might know if surgery or chemo would be an option although from what I've read it extends their life a year at most. Have some thinking and praying to do.

Causes if it's just a lung tumor? Second hand smoke and litter dust. I'm guilty of both. Even smoke on your clothes if you don't smoke indoors...crap!
