Subject: GROSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

We accidently discovered a huge abcess on Ben's back. Now I am wondering if any of this has to do with his bladder problems. He started with a very small lump that grew and grew in 3 days time so I called the vet and they said to bring him in. Well, they touched the lump and out gushed all kinds of the grossest stinkiest stuff you can imagine. You can't imagine how hard it was to keep from vomiting! So they drained it, shaved the area and it is HUGE and will become even bigger before it gets better. The skin around the abcess hole is dying so the hole is going to get bigger when that skin dies. You can see right inside of the hole and see his flesh and empty space and EWWWWWWWW Oh that poor boy! So, they said to keep it un-bandaged to heal from the inside out and he is on very strong antibiotics. This is worse than Rogers grub bug from years ago. They can't say for sure how he got it and they said he may have even got if from them when he was in last week so they aren't going to charge me. He could have gotten it anywhere though. Davey and Johnny are always trying to fight him. So he is separate now. I was so grossed out that I didn't want him in bed with me and of course, today I feel so guilty. I never kicked him out of bed or shut my door, or even pushed him aside, but he must have sensed my repulsion because he stayed out of bed himself and stayed in my closet. Now, I feel so bad. All he needs is some comfort and I am too grossed out to even pet him. It's so big!!! I am afraid of touching it. What a horrible mom I am for being grossed out! Ewwww, I can't even think about it, it's making me nauseaus again!

I had a cat that had a lump that burst. She had a huge clump of matted fur when I found her and this thing got started from the hair pulling. I didn't even know it wa there, was brushing her one day and it popped! YECH! Green, yellos, sometimes a bit bloody! If it's the neck area then I'd think it was from the neck biting that cats do. Awwwww, poor Ben!! How is he this morning? I don't think I've ever seen anything like what you described.....I hope the look of it improves soon, I know you miss cuddling with him and he misses it too....Let us know how he is ok??

Poor Ben and poor you! Thankfully, I've never had to deal with an abscess but my sister's cat once had one and that was bad enough. I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with his bladder problems although if an abscess gets bad enough, the infection can spread elsewhere. I'm glad they've got him on good antibiotics and aren't charging you for his care but Ramona, don't feel badly about being grossed out by this.
