 There was an old man in Greens Bayou that worked at Pearson's junk yard. I needed some leaf springs "re-arched". I called and they said they could re-arch my springs, GREAT!

I was expecting to see some kind of re-arching machine to do the job.

Over the years the springs had lost their original arch and the car was sagging on one side. So I get there and he says he could re-arch them while I wait- cool I was gonna get to see the process!!

I figured they must have some kind of machine like to big rollers and feed the springs thru the machine several times.

I was surprised when he took the leaf springs apart for the re-arching process... And to say the least I was very surprised when I saw the re-arching machine!! It was a 5# hammer!!

The guy held one end of the leaf spring and the other end laid on the ground with just a bit sticking in the air. Next step he smacked the leaf spring where it touched the ground with the hammer. He sorta peened- kept smacking the spring where it touched the ground and slowly feed it and kept smacking.

To my surprise the dead spring was starting to slowly re-arch. He arched the main spring and maybe the next two then put the spring back together- damn had twice the arch as the other dead leaf spring I had brought!

The newly re-arched springs worked perfect and did not loose their re-arch!!

A few years later on my next project I took the rear springs apart, used a mall and re-arched my own springs! Now the down side- "it took plenty of sweat!" swinging a hammer is nothing but work, I couldn't do it now but in my early twenty's re-arching was a piece of cake!

I think if I kept "arching" I could have curled the main leaf until the spring eyes were touching! You just have to have a sorta knack to feel what your doing!

Yep back in the day it wasn't always about buying new- we did have to recycle.... nowdays I would have go the $40 dollar route- i'm to damn old the sweat that much, lol!!

 Ok I've got a piece of aluminum that has a logo milled into no more than a 1/16th inch deep. Was wanting to get some input on some solder that could be used to fill the logo in that will polish out the same as the aluminum, so pretty much after polishing you'd never be able to tell it was there. Made some phone calls today and found a company called superior flux, and talked to a guy that said they made a flux-core solder called AFCM in .062 that would do the job with no problem, and polish out to match the aluminum. Just wanted to get some opinions from some of yall that have done this before. Thanks

 On aluminum the best thing to do is TIG weld it then mill or grind it down. It can be MIG welded but you you have to have a spool gun to do it.

 No cons to it other than more cubic inches if you wanted. I just built my 383 for my new to me 72 Nova. I am very pleased with my new engine and probably have about 350 miles on it without any issues. It runs strong and I am guessing somewhere around 525 horse. I put a Scat 9000 crank, Scat Procomp 7/16" I beam rods rated to 750 hp, some AFR 195 heads, Lunati hyd. retro roller cam 560/565 lift and 243/251 duration at .050, 1 3/4" x 1 7/8" stepped ceramic coated headers, Pypes X pipe(3"), and 3" tailpipes. Hoping to run some low to mid 11s after I build the rearend.

 I've had 327, 355, now 383. I personally like the 327. It rev'd smoother and quicker. Idled better. But I guess everyone wants 700 cubic inches now days and 1200 horse. With good heads I bet a 327 would make 400 to 450 horse easy. Something about those short stroke engines !

 ya know back in the day 327 motors (some)had 11,1 to 1 compression .202 heads & solid lifters ,2 bolt mains ,steel cranks.350/375 horse(factory) was common so 400/425 horse is not hard.with todays heads,carbs etc no ptoblem.also you cannot get the rpm's like the old 327 motors could.just my 2 cents worth

 boost is differant from overdrive. And more boost with more overdrive isn't alway better, need to watch manifold temps. also. exp.if you make 30lbs,of boost with 20% overdrive and make 32lbs. with 30% overdrive, go with the 20% overdrive. it will make less heat in the manifold and make more power.

 needing some help changed my fuel pressure regulator to day set it at 6 psi running holly blue pump and the cheap holly regulator this is a aux fuel system for nitrous problem im having is when i set the fuel pressure holds steady at 6 psi but when i hit the button to open silinoid fuel pressure drops to 3 psi flowing whats cuasing this tried two differnt fuel psi guages same thing thanks for the help

 Sounds like he's not flowing it to begin with. If it's a plate and ya don't have a flow tool take the plate put in a small bucket, cover with a towel, turn bottle off, fuel pump on and activate kit and set fuel pressure around 5.5 flowing with your gauge and that 78 or 73 jet. Then read plug from there.

 Put you a return on side of regulator ur not using . Oil pressure line and return back to cell. You may even have to pinch off half the line. Just sum kinda return. That will eliminate ur fluxuation you have in the gauge.

 some people do use returns but 20 jet is large enough. blue pump is kind of small depending on size of kit. ive picked up 2 teenths on motor before going from a blue to a 400. aproxment 650 hp sb. maybe the pump was bad dont know. and i usealy never run a return, most dont, they dont even have a clue if its dead heading or not cause they dont even have a gauge on it just take a line off to flow it or put a in line cap to be able to remove to flow.

 It's time for a new set of front runners on my ride. I currently run M/T 26.0" x 4.5-15. Was wondering should I buy some 27.5" x 4.5-15 or maybe even the 28.0" x 4.5-15's to match the 28 x 10.5's circumference on the back. Not sure if the different heights even matter on a drag car.  The first thing I would check would be the actual ignition switch located at the bottom of the column under the dash where the rod snaps in. It should be a rectangular white(sometimes gray) plastic box bolted to the column. They are usually the culprit! Unless the tilt mechanism is loose then it could be the rods binding inside the column.

Just my 2 cents!

I HAVE SEEN WORN COLUMNS EVEN IN PARK THE KEY WOULD NOT RELEASE AND YOU HAD TO GRAB THE BELL ON THE COLUMN AND GIVE IT A LITTLE HELP SO IT WILL GO ALL THE WAY "HOME" AND RELEASE THE KEY.

 I was looking on Oreilly's website and all they show is a reman. power steering. Better to call them, but they probably don't have a manual box. I would still call them and make sure. Good luck

 Yea i already called. the onky one they have is for power steering. i read some where a manual box off of an older s10 would work but i wanted to make sure or see if there was anything else out there.
