HEADS UP RACING DOESN'T WORK WITH THE TIRED OLD RULES OF THE PAST. WE NEED THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX.

THE TRIED AND TRUE FAILED SYSTEM OF THE PAST PENALIZES A CAR BEFORE IT EVER GETS TO THE TRACK. EXAMPLE PONTIAC HEADS ADD #100 -WHY?? JUST BECAUSE THE PROS LIKE JEFF NAISER CAN GET AN EXTRA #100 HP FROM PONTIAC HEADS -WHY PENALIZE AN ENTRY LEVEL RACER THAT GOT A GREAT DEAL AT A SWAP MEET ON A SET OF PONTIAC HEADS.

THE TXDRL IS MORE OF AN ENTRY LEVEL EVENT -THE PROS ARE RUNNING THE ADRL. WE GOT RACERS BEING "TAXED" WITH WEIGHT PENALITY JUST LIKE THEY ARE PRO'S.

IF WE USE THE FAILED SYSTEMS OF THE PAST IN A YEAR OR LESS EVERYONE WILL KNOW WHO IS GOING TO WIN AND THE ENTRY LEVEL GUYS TO THE CLASS WON'T COME BACK, WHY SHOULD THEY BE CANNON FODDER FOR 3 OR 4 CARS?? THE FANS WILL BE DISINTERESTED WITH THE CLASS AND QUIT COMING. IV'E SEEN IT HAPPEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

I WANT TO "TRY SOMETHING" NEW, SOME THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX! WHY ADD WEIGHT BEFORE A RACER EVER GETS TO THE TRACK AND KILL HIS CHANCES OF RUNNING UP FRONT. "ADDING WEIGHT" IS THERE TO KEEP A LEVEL PLAYING FEILD, THATS ALL IT'S FOR.

I WANT TO TRY AND "ADD WEIGHT" AFTER YOUR CAR HAS REACHED A CERTAIN PERFORMANCE LEVEL -NOT BEFORE YOU REACH THAT LEVEL. ADDING THE WEIGHT "AFTER" YOU REACH A CERTAIN LEVEL DOES NOT KILL A RACERS COMBO "BEFORE" HE EVER GETS TO THE TRACK!

TO KEEP A CLASS ALIVE AND KEEP SPECTATOR INTEREST YOU NEED TO HAVE NEW ENTRY LEVEL CARS KEEP SHOWING UP. WE WILL ADD WEIGHT "AFTER" THEY BECOME COMPETITIVE, NOT BEFORE.

THIS YEAR THE 8.5 OUTLAWS GOT OFF TO A HUGE START.. WE BASICALLY HAD 3 RULES.. #2900 BASE WEIGHT FOR FOR SMALL BLOCKS, #3300 BASE WEIGHT FOR BIG BLOCKS AND A 26X8.5 TIRE. WE PROBABLY SHOULD ADD TURBO CARS GET #150 ADDED TO BASE WEIGHT.

WITH 10 8.5 CARS AT THE FINAL RACE AND MOST ALL WERE IN THE 5.20 TO 5.30 RANGE -THAT'S PRETTY CLOSE!! I WANT TO KEEP OUR CURRENT RULES -MAYBE CAP RAT MOTORS AT A 10.2 DECK HEIGHT NEW RULE ANY CAR THAT GOES IN THE 5.TEENS GET #100 POUNDS FOR THE NEXT ROUND. WHEN WE GET 5 CARS CARRYING THE WEIGHT PENALTY WE GO BACK TO BASE WEIGHT AND LET THE "PACK" GO ALL AT ONCE. THIS WILL GIVE ENTRY LEVEL GUYS A FEW MONTHS TO CATCH UP TO THE LEADERS AND NOT HAVE 2 OR 3 CARS THAT IS DOMINATING THE CLASS!

I REALLY DON'T SEE HOW THIS SYSTEM WOULD BE ANY WORSE THAN THE FAILED SYSTEMS OF THE PAST. THE HERD MENTALITY IS ALREADY TRYING TO BEAT ME INTO THE FAILED SYSTEM - WE GOT SEVERAL MONTHS TO TRY AND COME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW, DIFFERENT AND EXCITING FOR THE FANS AND THE RACERS!

The only thing I would change would be to adjust the weight for the next race, not the next round. Not sure everybody would be able to safely add weight on the fly like that. Plus it give them a chance to let there hard work pay off at least for one race. Just cause they went fast doesn't guaranty a win.

I WOULD HOPE IF A GUY IS RUNNING 5.20'S, HE WOULD HAVE THE WEIGHT READY TO ADD TO THE CAR IN THE TRAILER. I DON'T THINK A GUY RUNNING 5.30'S OR 40'S IS GONNA POP INTO THE 5 TEENS.

ON THE OTHER HAND KENNY WENT BACK TO BACK 5.23'S - WOULDA BEEN A NEW RECORD IF KLINT HADN'T RUN THE 5.19 I MIGHT ADD. NOW I WOULD EXPECT UNDER THE NEW RULES IF WE ADOPT THEM KENNY WOULD ALREADY HAVE HIS CAR PREPARED TO ADD THE #100 FOR THE NEXT ROUND.

A GUY CAREING WEIGHT WILL GET A SLASH ON HIS WINDOW FOR EVERY #100 POUNDS EXTRA HE IS CARRING. I WANT THE FANS TO BE INVOLVED IN WHATS GOING ON. WHEN THEY SEE A CAR COMING UP WITH 2 MARKS ON THE WINDOW THEY WILL KNOW HE IS CAREING AN EXTRA #200. WITH THE CURRENT SYSTEM THE FANS DON'T KNOW WHO IS HEAVY AND WHO IS LITE.

THE FANS DON'T HAVE ANY IDEA NOW WHO IS HEAVY AND WHO IS LIGHT. IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL BUT I WANT TO GET THE FANS MORE INVOLVED. WHEN THEY SEE A CAR COME UP WITH 3 SLASHES ON THE THE WINDOW, THEY WILL KNOW HE IS A "BAD DUDE"!

I'M HOPEING MAYBE WITH SOME NEW THINKING WE CAN "MORPH" INTO A CLASS THAT WILL STAY. I REALLY LIKE THE NEW 8.5 OUTLAW CLASS. RIGHT NOW WE ARE AHEAD OF THE CURVE. DRAG RACING HAS LOST A LOT OF FANS -WE NEED 'EM BACK.

INSTEAD OF ADDING WEIGHT WE COULD ADD A HANDICAP TO THE TREE I DON'T THINK IT WOULD BE AS INTERESTING AND I'M SURE THERE WILL BE MISTAKES ADDING THE HANDICAP INTO THE TREE.... DARRYL THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT!!

HEADS UP DOESN'T MATTER HOW FAST YOU GO, IF YOU GET THERE FIRST YOU WIN THE ROUND AND ADVANCE TO THE NEXT ROUND.

INDEX RACING IS JUST THE OPPOSITE, YOU LOOSE FOR GOING TO FAST.

ADD WEIGHT TO THE WINNER IS THE SAME PRINCIPLE AS NHRA DOES FOR COMPETITION ELIMINATOR. NHRA ADJUSTS THE INDEX FOR THE NEXT ROUND IF YOU GO TOO FAST. I'M NOT SURE ON HOW IT WORKS BUT THIS IS THE PRINCIPAL IDEA.

AS YOU REACH THE FINAL ROUND IF 2 CARS ARE HOLDING BACK THEY WILL HAVE TO TURN THEM LOOSE TO WIN.. COULD BE FOR SOME INTERESTING RACING!

Joe, come on you can’t add 100lbs or more in a race car between rounds, have you ever heard of spring rate? You’re going to put cars in the wall. I would say bring springs with you but you run your race like a bracket race, you don’t even have time to go piss. Call the local chassis builders and ask them.

Apparently you dont run many bracket races, we waste more time dicking around at these index races than any bracket race. At houston raceway park the classes have around 75 cars each and a seperate gamblers race for 16 in each class. So if you are still in you hot lap your cars the last three rounds of each class. And I am not talking about the 6.60 pos that gets towed back every round, I'm talking about 4 second dragsters and 5 second door cars, that drive back from the finish line, stop for a splash of fuel, and back to the staging lanes.

what do yall think about any car that has been faster than a 5.26 adds a 100 pounds and any car that has not been in the 5.35 minus a 100 pounds or maybe up to 200 pounds? To help the slower cars keep up, that should help even out the car feild some. i think joes idea might work but you would need to put a limit on the weight from base weight, what do yall think?????? i think we should focus on the slower cars weight break to keep it heads up racing and give the fans a faster better show!!!!

Harvey came in over his class weight is that telling us something there. Meaning that weight is not a issue. All he had to say is added to me, but I am already there. What would be next?

if he has been a 5.26 at 3450 then he would have to add a 100 pounds to 3450, just like since we have been faster than a 5.26 at 2975 we would add a 100 pounds and be 3100,and leave the same tune up on the car just to even out the class a bit to make it anybodys race, if that doesnt work we need to give one hell of a weight break to the slower cars!!! or lets just race and have a good time!!!

i think putting and pulling weight in out is not going to work well, one i dont think u can add a 100-200 pounds safely to your car unless u have tabs to bolt it to, and know where to place the weight at, second think about the final round if u got one car with 100 pounds and the other car 200 pounds they both take the weight out and change there setups they had allnight then both cars might not make it down the track, and that would suck both for the racers and fans!!!!

adding weight will not do anyting except make the cars unsafe. the guys going fast are the guys with big power. all they have to do is compensate with gear ratio and add a little more power and they will be right back where they were. and don't give me the line about the tire being the limiting factor. that's BS.
until there is some type of engine restriction the guys willing to put the most power under the hood will be out front. you guys need to decide weather this class is intended to be a real outlaw class or an entry level class.
at this rate the front running 8.5s will be running over half of the tuff street class by the middle of next year.
what type of show will that be for the fans?
why would they pay both classes when they will run pretty much the same et's?
then you're down to 1 class with three or four cars domminating. hell i love street-car drag racing and even i wouldn't pay to see that.

I had no Idea that you could lose by going to fast cause it is bracket racing with a fixed dial in. All saturday night you did nothing, but listen to everyone bitch cause they are to slow. If they havn't figured it out the most money always wins in the heads up classes on a local level. Making it a floating index is no more than everyone sandbagging so you don't add weight to the cars.

I think what Joe is suggesting is add a hundred pounds to your base weight if you run in the teens. For instance if Sam Harvey ran a teen last Saturday he would have to add 100# to his base weight of 3300 so he would be forced to weigh 3400 which he already weighs 3450, so thats one strike. He has one more oppurtunity to run a teen if he does it again whether its in qual or in final round he would have to add 50lbs to make it up to 3500#. I assume we would have to carry this weight at the next race as well till others caught up?

As far as adding the weight if you have any thoughts that you may run in the teens you might ought to show up at the race 100-200#'s heavy. Then you are not responsible to touch your car between rounds.

WEIGHT AND SMALL TIRES RUNNING THAT FAST CAN HAVE VERY BAD REACTIONS. AINT SKEERED JUST TRYING TO THINK SAFELY , WRECKS AINT CHEAP OR FUNNY AND WE DONT DO THIS SHIT FOR A LIVING.

AS A PROMOTER I'M FORCED TO GO WITH CAR COUNT AND SPECTATOR INTEREST. THERE IS VERY LITTLE "CHATTER" FROM THE TUFF STREET CARS ON THE GOSSIP AND SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THE 8.5 OUTLAW CLASS I BET WE HAVE AVERAGED AT LEAST 1 POST A DAY IF NOT MORE.

FOR TUFF STREET WE TOOK #200 OFF SMALL BLOCKS AT THE END OF THE YEAR, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE AT THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. HERE IS A PERFECT CASE OF "TAXING" CARS WITH WEIGHT BEFORE THE PERFORMANCE WAS THERE.

THE BACKHALF CLASS SHOWS REAL PROMISE -WITH JUST 4 RACES WE HAVE HAD 6 CARS AT THE LAST 2 EVENTS. AS A PROMOTER I HAVE TO DEPEND ON A CLASS TO BE AT THE NEXT EVENT. 5 TUFF STREET CARS AT THE LAST EVENT IS DISAPPOINTING

NEXT YEAR I MAY HAVE TO CUT 1 CLASS IF THE ECONOMY DOES NOT IMPROVE. DO THE MATCH ON WHICH CLASS IS A LIKELY CANDIDATE TO GET CUT.

i hear you about the economy joe and you make a good point about the car count.
i tried to bring cars to all of your events that i could but sometimes scheduling conflicts and family stuff comes up esp. for us "out of towners". as for the guys who live in houston and don't show i can't answer for them.
i'm just trying to help and was not crying about the cars being as fast as tuff street. i think we had a pretty good average car count in tuff street over the year considering the fact that there are three organizations and temple raceway that run the same basic class and towards the end of the year a lot of the guys are either down or just plain worn out.
what i was trying to say is unless you think there is enough interest in this class that a lot of guys will be building limmited street engines and strapping on 8.5s to come run, you will be down to just a few compettitive cars in this class. i can appreciate the "outlaw" aspect of the class, but what good is it if only a couple of cars have that performance potential and the others are just car count. bragging rights are cool but racing is what most fans come to see.
the last tuff street race i attended in september, there was 1 car in the 5.0s and 5 or 6 that ran teens. if you could get the 8.5 class bunched up that close the fans could get a good side by side show in both classes and there would be several cars that they would climb the fence to see because more guys would have a legitimate chance as winning outright.
good luck with the 8.5 stuff, i think it's cool as hell and i would like to see it continue.

"considering the fact that there are three organizations and temple raceway that run the same basic class"

AS A PROMOTER I'M BACK TO SAYIN WE NEED A CLASS OF CARS THAT I CAN DEPEND ON TO COME OUT AND RACE ONCE A MONTH. IT IS HARD FOR THE FANS TO RELATE TO A ON AGAIN OFF CLASS.

IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS ON A NEW CLASS I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN HEARING ABOUT IT. WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT I BELIEVE IT WAS RAYLAND WITH THE BABY BLUE LUV THAT RAN EVIL STREET FIRST SUGGESTED THE 8.5'S WHICH HAS TURNED OUT TO BE THE HOTTEST NEW DRAG RACING CLASS IN TEXAS!

This could keep it safer and allow the slower cars to compete. How about we allow the slower cars get to pull weight accordingly to who they race next round. Example since kenny is aproximate .4 tenths slower than me(LOL)he could pull 50 lbs out and all the 5.50 cars could pull 300 lbs. Now days there is fiberglass doors and hoods that you can not even tell they are not original. Weight is the most consistant way to create speed and cost less than tearing up engines to compete.
Safety is a big factor also and I think the NHRA and IHRA limits the weight for vehiklesaccording to speed also. Not sure but I heard a turbo guy say that at a race last year. The more weight we throw on the harder it is to stop cars especialy on the short track. This could be the best rule yet.

I know what you can do to boost the car count in the 5.80 & 6.60 indexes. I understand and don’t have a problem with; we are just the filler for the heads up guys. I heard there was a 5.80 race in Dallas & 33 cars showed up that’s right 33 cars. Maybe call the Promoter in Dallas and set up a little race North vs. South a few times a year. Go to pro580.com and check out the rules and the progressive payout. I think if you used the Progressive Payout you would draw more cars.

This will at least give the slower guys a chance! Adding weight between rounds will never work! Somebody is gonna bust a bag of concrete and spread it all over the track or get hit by a loose dumb bell thats rolling around in there car!

No minimum weight for cars that run a 5.30 flat or slower!

Also you better limit the turbo/procharger size and on NOS motors the deck height before someone shows up with a car with some serious power and really fucks this class up! JMO!

If we add weight to the ones that run teens then the 50/50 rule should come back into play for them. That way they can’t just add it to the ass of the car and hook and go faster each round i.e. look at Sam and triangle speed they added weight and went faster because they added it to the ass end.

joe, i run your event when i can, i have for the last 4 years. how about maybe having a bracket race included in your program. i can think of at least 20 cars that would show up on a monthly basis. let it be like a gamblers race at first, if it hits, then maybe come up with a gauranteed payout thats more than the "other" tracks and you will draw a car count. most bracket racers will run the index cvlasses as well if they fit in it. just a thought from a no between round shock changer.

Joe all the classes are having a little problem, we figure with the 8.5 is having its issues on here, we would not want things to get mixed up with the classes, I promise you the Tuff Street will be a little stronger next year, we just got to turn the guys a little loose to catch up. In Tuff Street we have determine that weight breaks will not help our small blocks to catch up. So we are working on something different. We can not iron all these factors out in one day but make damn sure it will work. The three Classes Tuff Street, Ultimate Street, & TTT5 are pulling together to correct the issue, which is small. We are having to figure to get our turbo's combo back out racing which keep things exciting. Like Ben, he has been trying all year to get his combo to run the number, when he findly got to the point the guys jump way a head again. Our class is now seeing 4.99 to 5.0's now, may be some teens next year. Capping the cars will make like a bracket race, this is Heads-up racing run what your brung by the rules. They are now going to fast to playing with weights in the cars. People that make up rules will alway come up with some kind of way to keep the other fella down in some ways that other people see it.
Like I said in our Beer meeting that night, we got 4 months on lack time, bring some more friday night races with the old rule, massage them, as we go, the cool air will let them go at there best. When December hit finalize the rules for next year.
Using the Tuff Street, U/S & Extreme Street, concept rules to the 8.5 class would be helpful, but to run faster is what the spectators want to see, a new record broken every few races.
We guys in Houston, got a good thing going on, the North/South concept is watching, we got car count, so that mean that we must be doing something to get the guys out and racing in the 8.5 class here.
I dont' want to get cussed out for this, if the guy run 5.15's on 8.5 throw him in tuff street but he need to keep that tire on and same weight no changes. When more than two guys reach his speed, he can go back to 8.5 this will help both classes.

*************************
JOHN I THINK YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD WITH YOUR COMMENT:

"considering the fact that there are three organizations and temple raceway that run the same basic class"

AS A PROMOTER I'M BACK TO SAYIN WE NEED A CLASS OF CARS THAT I CAN DEPEND ON TO COME OUT AND RACE ONCE A MONTH. IT IS HARD FOR THE FANS TO RELATE TO A ON AGAIN OFF AGAIN CLASS.

***********************************************

COMBINING THE CLASS HAS PROBABLY ALL BUT KILLED TUFF STREET FOR THE TXDRL..... THERE ARE JUST TOO MANY RACES FOR THE GUYS TO ATTEND. I'LL SAY AGAIN I WANT A CLASS THAT I CAN COUNT ON FOR A FULL FIELD @ EVERY RACE. 5 CARS AT THE LAST RACE WAS DISAPPOINTING FOR ME AS A PROMOTER. I ENJOYED THE RACE BUT WITH JUST 5 CARS AND ONE NEVER MADE A PASS. I CAN NO LONGER PAY A PAYOUT FOR 4 CARS -THE SPECTATORS ARE JUST NOT THERE.

WE MAY BRING BACK "EVIL STREET" FOR 2010, LIKE YOU SAID WE GOT FOUR MONTHS TO THINK THINGS OVER.

Thats the nature of the beast. When a class becomes this hot every track is gonna start booking it! What is hurting tuff street is the same thing thats gonna kill 8.5........ A few cars are gonna start hauling ass no matter how much weight you throw at them and the slower guys are gonna stay home!!! Look how many 8.5 cars dissappered after these guys got in the 30's and its only gonna get worse when someone comes in with a twin turbo or a 700 plus inch nos car and runs a 4.90 something! It will happen if you dont put some limitations on this class now!!!!! It wont effect anyone that currently runs the class now because not one of those combinations havent showed up yet but they will!!!! i heard kyle ordered 10 sets of Hoossiers to start testing with his 870!!!!

THIS THREAD IS GOTTEN KINDA LONG, BUT SOMEWHERE ABOVE I SAID WE WILL PROBABLY LIMIT THE CI TO A 10.2 DECK FOR 8.5 OUTLAW. NOT BECAUSE I'M AFRAID OF SPEED BUT I DON'T WANT TO SEE CARS SPRAYING THEIR GUTS OUT TO KEEP UP WITH CARS JUST "LUMBERING ALONG".

I CANNOT PREDICT THE FUTURE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE 8.5 OUTLAWS WILL DO, --->BUT I CAN RELATE TO THE PAST. LAST TXDRL RACE WE HAD 10 COMPETITIVE 8.5 OUTLAWS, AGAIN WE ONLY HAD 4 COMPETITIVE TUFF STREET CARS.

RACERS WILL RACE WHERE THEY WANT AND I CAN'T BLAME THEM AT ALL, IF I HAD A CAR I WOULD RUN WHERE I WANTED.... BUT I WOULD PROBABLY PIC A SERIES AND STAY WITH AND SUPPORT IT, BUT THATS JUST ME.

WE HAVE HAD A NICE STRING ON THE GOSSIP PAGE FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS. CLOSE TO 100 EVENTS -MAYBE A FEW MORE, PROBABLY MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE IN TEXAS, I HOPE WE CAN CONTINUE. THERE HAVE BEEN CLASSES THAT LEFT FOR SHORT TERM GAINS BUT SOMETIMES MAY NOT BE WORTH THE LONG TERM EFFECTS.

MAYBE DON'T THINK FROM RACE TO RACE BUT THINK FROM YEAR TO YEAR. CLASSES THAT SUPPORT AN EVENT DON'T GET CUT.. JUST SAYIN.........

There are way more tuff street cars than 8.5 cars and the class will show it next season. The 8.5 class will die out after a couple of races next year due to it being a " outlaw " class. There are over 30 tuff street cars in the Houston and Austin area racing 3 organizations and I believe ultimate street is moving to tuff street, so that makes only 2. Not to mention all the Dallas cars that race extreme street they fit the rules as well. The rules for these cars are being debated right now to make the small blocks faster to hang with the big blocks and keep it a level playing field. You would be crazy to eliminate this class, this is a heads up true ten five class with a set of rules to keep the playing foeld even and make for some good fast racing! This is not a "outlaw" class so there for if will be around for a long time with out everyone getting run over by the guy with the deepest pockets. This class is a great class and it will be your "show" next year you bet your ass. Otherwise Cancle it and run your 8.5 outlaw class with no rules since it is outlaw there should not be rules and your back half card and index and let know how that works out for you.

Don't Cancle the class and let the comitee people of ttt5 work on the rules like they are tring to do as I speak. Be patient for once and let a good thing roll with out jumping to conclustions and start talk of cancling a class! Relax I know 14 tuff street cars in the Houston area alone that will be at every race next year gunning for the championship.

Well that sucks.... I missed 2 races cause I had a baby and now Tuff Street is plate only. I really thought this was going to be a good class next year. Ohwell I will not be there my small block ford will not run 4's to keep up with Trevor with a plate much less teens. I had fun at the race I did go to and there was 12 cars there maybee it was not meant to be. Good luck next year with Tuff Street and thanks for having the class this year, I wish I would of made more races to participate in.

JOE, I understood, what John said, I agree to his point, I stay away from the board because of work, and the next thing I see that, you want to cancel us out. The reason why the guys are not on here fussing is that, they are all are trying to get ready for next year to come.
Changing the rules back the old one, in my eyesight would be a mistake. If you look back this whole complete season Tuff street had no arguments about the rules. I am getting calls and emails about the class from guys are ready to show next year. We are working on some glitches for the small block cars, with the weight and power, and when this is completed I guarantee you that the small block will be out in full force next year making things happen. We are not going to slow anybody down, weight changing every race, but to give the best show that this class can give. Believe me haven't seen nothing yet. From this point on we will be able to guarantee you 8 or more car like you ask. but we are looking to see more than 12-16 car @ 90% of the races.
Yes we do have alot of cars here in Houston, and they are coming out of the garage next year. Your schedules are up, and the guys like that, now they can set there days to be at a race.
Joe we have respected the guys in Austin for the group of guys that love to race. They also travel to Dallas to keep them afloat also. Simularity of the rules is what keep them ready to travel, but to change there cars all around to go race out of town, they will cease to show. This will hurt any class.
Like the 8.5 class its new, OUTLAW, fit for all, got alot to work out and get going. I am behind you for them, they have a lot to work out. This subject about the 8.5 has been going on for about two weeks now, and has not come to an arrow head yet.
Tuff Street will be the class you will be very proud of next year. We are mini outlaws with stock suspension cars.

Hey Joe,
You need to bring Turbo cars back in with more equitable wieght breaks and rules. You lost an entire sector of cars based on the rules. Car count dropped and fan interest dropped. Hope you can bring them back in.... but you will need to have a turbo person help with the rules.
Turbo cars are wild and run lots of MPH come on hard the last 330 and make for exciting racing. They are inconsistent; they get wild and fans have fun..... I think that is what you need?????

Why not just subtract or add on the time slip. Instead of adding or takeing out weight? Just figure the overages and deduct from the slip. You might have a winner on the slip but after you subtact the fastest time from the desired times, who-ever is the winner after the math is the winner. That way the faster cars can still be searching for more power in their tuneups and maybe move up to another class once they have got to a fastest enough time. Im not a racer, but I think adding weight between rounds in just crazy. You will have more cars if they think they have a chance against a faster car if the time difference is calcuated in the slip. The fans still get to see some fast passes. Kinda like bracket racing but take it out of the slip and not at the tree.... Just a thought....

Sounds like the problem that ALL classes have is that no matter what limits, weights, parts you limit on cars, there are a couple of people with big money and experience behind them that come in and dominate the class. This makes a few memorable passes, but by the end of the season, the car count dissipates and the class fails.

My family has raced BMX bicycles in the ABA for a number of years. They have a similar problem. You have a few guys/ kids on high dollar titanium and carbon fiber bikes that have been racing since they could walk. They can run circles around the entry level guy on a decent bike. You want to be fair to both. You don't want to penalize the fast guy and make him go slow like the noob, and if the new guy is getting pummeled every tim he gets on the track he will sell his bike and find a new hobby after a few races.

Here's their solution. They have classes that are determined by the riders stats instead of the parts on their bike. They have three classes Novice, Intermediate, and PRO. Once you win like 7 races as a novice, you are moved to the intermediate class (for good, you can NEVER move back to the Novice class) then after another x number of wins you move to the pro class.

What this does is it keeps the new guys and lower budget guys from being easy meat for the big guys. It also gives the big guys a place to play. They can run all out without being held back. The pro class guys are truly impressive to watch, the cover 25 foot gaps on bicycles. This is the other effect that this system has. The Novice class becomes an added spectator group for the track. Maybe you would only need two classes for drag racing.

If you want to keep the baddest 8.5 outlaw times in the world at your events then the last thing you would want is to slow the cars down. Instead loosen the rules a little and give the heavy hitters their own class to set records in and keep the novice class for car count. The higher the car count the more spectators.

Do not have an unlimited budget, but I am willing to pay a little extra to get a NICE product.

My e-mail is posted, in case there are suggestions (or warnings) that you don't want made public.

Just curious on weight, how can the small block 8.5 weight be 3150lbs when the big block weight is only 3350lbs(national weights-lol). Thats only a two hundred lb. difference. Now heres my bitch there is no other outlaw class thats like that-NONE. At minimum outlaw 10.5 is 300lbs and true ten five is 400 lbs difference. Also who gives a shit if it has sheetmetal intakes or cast, thats why its called OUTLAW style racing. One last thing your national boys had two cars show up at the last race, so whos following who.

The primer truck just drove on by the nova and the truck has a sb chevy, the 67 nova has a 632 big chief rat. Not a 1 hit wonder either the truck went a 5.26 first time out. check Texas king of the hill bb nos 2800 lbs. and sb nos 2600 lbs. and for true 10.5 i don't see any 600 inch motors in that class. 706 plus maybe. but i guess that don't mean shit.

point is you limit the 8.5 class on bb cid and go from there.

600 cid 1 carb makes about 1000 to 1100 hp
420 plus sb 2 carb makes about 850 to 950 hp and you think 400 lbs. is good.

how can a man say he can tune a car and walk aroung asking everyone how should i do this how should i do that. then say well everyone should learn to turn a car like he has

As far as the engine difference between small block and big block cast or sheet metal intakes and carbs, thats a choice and cubic inch size is also a choice. No where can i find a cubic inch rule in any rules(north or south), so basicly what your saying is since i didnt build a big enough motor lets stack more weight on the small block combos so we can run with them-lol-thats classic. Also if asking questions means you cant tune, then you are all idiots, not one of you can say you started the use of nitrous or were a born over night chassis man. IN FACT IF THE TRUCK WAS MINE I WOULD TAKE THAT BABY KIT OFF AND SHOW YOU A REAL F#$@ NUMBER.There will always be haters, just make a set of rules that are fair and lets see who can out tune who, the timing board will have the final say.

The only dumb question is the one not asked. So I ask people what they do to get their car to work sometimes. That does not mean I do it their way so get over yourself just because someone asks you a question. We put new double adjustable shocks on the truck Friday morning and added weight therefore we had to figure out what our chassis needed. John with Custom Performace and Engines actually gave us the chassis tune right before the 5.19 pass with a 1.30 sixty ft. The attempted pass to back it up was a 1.29 60 ft pass where I aborted run.

As far as the power goes the MPH hour is there and has been there since the 1st hit and I bet no one can tell me the fuel pressure, timing retards or jet sizes so how you like me now?
NRC has built one hell of a small block and gave me a sugestion but I still went with the same tune I had on the foger system since FSTA days with this motor.

We will not add stupid weight to the truck so big blocks will not have to lean on their engine like we do. We wil not attend races that do not give fair weight breaks. We are at(2976/432) = 6.9lbs per cubic inch right now where Harvey is 5.5lbs per cubic inch right now with his 632ci motor weighing in at 3450lbs. (3450/632) = 5.49lbs per cubic inch. Both combinations have two Carbs. I am not trying to start shit here but I am pointing out some facts.

TSS can burn it up running for second place next year or take out the weight. The reason your so heavy is because you have a junk chassis and can't make it work. Why not ask Klint for some help instead of cry about his weight.

Why would he want to ask Klint for his help, he managed to get it hooked and make one good pass. Harvey has his hooked everytime. If you didn't have your head up Klints ass you may have seen that. What a joke. And I don't think anyone has a problem with another driver asking for advise, but if your gonna ask for advise, don't turn around in the same night and act like your shit don't stink and you just schooled everyone-maybe they should do what your doing. Kinda arrogant don't ya think. To each his own though.

Sam can you say PROCHARGER so i dont think weight to cubic inch plays a factor in this combo. That 280 c.i. motor becomes 600 c.i. when its procharged, come on sam you know this.

Its funny to read these post because i remember when Tony and myself used to run true ten five, these post look almost identical-LOL.Why doesnt everyone just relax and lets set some rules that are fair for everyone. How about conventinal head small block 2950 lbs, non conventional 3100
conventional big block 3250 lbs and non conventional 3400 lbs.Blowers and turbos i have no idea, dont know enough about them, but im sure we can work it out.Now as far as the truck goes, sure we have had our problems, but it is a new combo, gonna take some time. Also im the first to say if i dont know the answer i will ask someones opinion on a particular set up.Rather that be chasis or nos.But with Clint, Robert, Bryan and myself we have alot of racing backrounds between us and that 5.19 pass will only get better.

What do you think a 430in. small block makes when you spray two kits too it...uhh, about 1300 too 1400 horsepower...They just have diffrent ways of forcing oxygen into the motor...So that makes both combos have the same horsepower but yet TSS is at 3350 and the truck is at 2975....now get your calculator out and do a little more math..

I think that its awesome that the truck run that fast...hats off to them.....

AND WHO EVER MADE THE POST ABOUT DADS CAR NOT WORKING...ARE YOU STUPID, SIMPLE, OR SLOW... HE RAN 5.20S ALL NIGHT AT 138 TO 141 MPH WITH NO WHEELIE BARS..NOW YOU TELL ME WHOS SUSPENSION AINT WORKING????

So your saying that a 280 c.i. nitrous motor will make as much power as a procharged 280 c.i. motor.and if that trucks small block is making 1300 to 1400 hp, he must be spraying the guts out of it, over 600 hp in nitrous?, i dont think so.that 650 c.i. big chief motor should make that on motor and probably does, it leaves the starting line on motor, then turns the shit on about 30 ft out

The motor in that truck makes about 950-975 hp on motor..spray 350-450 shot of nitrous..(probably more than that, but i dont know). The TSS mustang makes about 400 hp with no boost...1400 with boost...

Dads car has a 622ci motor in it that built 1195 horsepower tweeked out on the dyno..he sprays a 150 shot out of the hole and brings in a 225 shot.

I never said anything about a 283 would make as much power on nitrous as it does boosted...because it probably wont...

im just saying that everyones combo(klint,TSS,Sam,kenny)is making really close to the same horsepower ...so why should a small block get to way 450lbs lighter than a BB..

250lbs i can see, but not 450lbs..

If you thing that small block makes 950-975 on motor you have lost your mind-lol.That particular small block is a wedge motor, it might make 850 and it better be a bmf to make that.If it made 1400 hp that 5.19 would be more like 4.99 or better.

when car is running rev it up while choking the carb a few times and c if it clears up . might have trash in it . also bad valve springs will cause the motor to have less power or flat cam lobes. timing will also .

I believe a large back window trucks are a bit more rare from what I've seen. I've been a 64 stepside owner since 1983 and love the 59 to 66 models. The only more appealing back window to me is the wrap around cameo (?) style on some of the late fiftees trucks. That is a long way to say that I would pay more for a large back window truck.

If you happen to have a small window truck though, I have NOS glass that will fit 60 to 66 in the original GM packaging if you are interested. Hope this helps.

......if it's real bad, start with 1200,then the 1500, wet sand with the waterhose as you sand keeping surface ALWAYS wet, do in small patch's about 12x12, use 3M rubb'n compound [liquid], then use the 3M swirl mark remover, you'll find those at pep boy's, n keep the buff'n pad clean when it starts to mat-up,...hope this helps,oh,...n wash car real good when finished, the compound is a bitch to get off if drys n the cracks !

WHEN SANDING THE TEXTURE OUT USE A THIN FOAM PAD/BLOCK, DURABLOK MAKES A NICE ONE. RATHER THAN GOING TO THE 2000 GRIT 3M MAKES A 3000 HOOKIT PAD FOR A D/A, BUT YOU CAN USE THEM BY HAND(JUST KEEP EM WET). IT WILL MAKE BUFFING A LOT EASIER. USE 3M PERFECT-IT COMPOUND ON A WHITE FOAM PAD, USE 3M SWIRL REMOVER ON THE GRAY PAD. AFTER YOU WASH THE CAR, COME BACK WITH A HAND GLAZE

You couldn't give me another 6.0 powerstroke diesel. I bought mine used with about 60k on it. It was a Lariat 4X4 crew cab, a beautiful comfortable truck. I thought the truck would go 300-400,000 miles like my other diesels. The truck had good power and towed like a dream, but I couldn't keep it out of the dealer....4 times in a year!!!! Each time they had it at least 2 weeks!!!! Ford has so many warranty problems with the 6.0 powerstrokes they offered a supplemental 200k warranty and have a special warranty approval procedure. The tech troubleshoots the truck, verifies the parts are bad then calls for approval. There's a good chance nothing will be done on the truck until an adjuster shows up to inspect, verify and approve the tech's work.....meanwhile my truck (which I depend on to make a living is just setting there)

Trips to the dealer were for injectors (6 of the 8 eventually), EGR cooler problems twice, and some kind of breakdown where the truck just shut off and had to be towed to the dealership.

The EGR cooler is probably what is giving you the problem. That system puts the exhaust, intake air, oil and coolant all in proximity to each other. It is the biggest headache and fails regularly without warning. The dealer can charge 2-3000 to fix. Next time your at the dealership look around for a big pile of radiators. Another side effect of a failed EGR system is excessive pressure going into the cooling system and rupturing the radiator. The dealership that fixed mine had a pile several feet tall.

The newer powerstrokes have the added advantage of needing to pull the cab for maintenance as minor as replacing a turbo seal. Good luck to you I hope you have better luck than I did........Bart

Its the EGR Valve. The 6.0 powerstrokes are notorious for clogging the EGR vlave. My truck went to the dealership 7 times in less than a year for this issue. The techs will at first just clean the valve and all is well for a few days or weeks. Then it comes back. Even had the valve replaced twice. Got tired of it and got rid of the truck.

The big back window was an option in 67' . Most were small window . 68' the panoramic rear window became standard and small window was dropped . Not set in stone , but most air or high option trucks got the big back window .

yes we would still like to get this class going, but no deffanat rules yet. would like to hear for more people about it. if we do this is lexan be an issue if it is kept to a minimum, i know their was some complaning last time, and if we have a problem about no 315 radials then we stick to 275 60 only. does exuast matter our just make sure it has mufflers, if you guys are serious then maybe we can get together and pay a say $40- $50 member fee to help for pump to keep legetand to have a say so in this. so far i know at least 5 cometted people.

Im upgrading to a Big Shot plate system. Kind of been flying by the seat of my pants and gettin lucky runnin a cheater system. For the small shot on the big shot system should i use the same plugs NGK 8 or drop down a range and keep the timing close. Most importantly will a Holley Black flow enough for both carb and NOS. 150 was the biggest i ever shot and the plugs were brown with the old setup . I tried to set fuel at 5.5 but it always creeps over 6 . This is a 355 with Brodix heads with work and 750dp
[> Subject: How much compression? You gonna use race gas? What octane? I think you are pushing it using the single black for motor and the nitrous system...How much are you going to spray with the Big Shot Plate? You can start small, 73 jets squared (73 for nitrous and fuel both), flow the plate with the 73 jet, set pressure to 6 and work your way down on the pressure depending on how the plugs look.

Darts maximum suggested stroke is 3.875 which would make the 421. People do make the 434 but do you want to push the block passed the maximum suggested stroke right out of the box. The 434 should give more torque with the increased stroke but "piston slap" would be increased correct? I am not an engine builder by any means, this is just my theroy. maybe someone else could shed more light on the subject.

you have to have a custon piston with a very short skirt, the problem is the longer stroke pulls the piston too far outa the hole.

Subject: Need help on info on a big block engine

Author:

Just got this complete big block engine, these is a sticker on the valve covers it has: PPH in big letters and under that it has 10PPH T104040159 On the back of the block it has : C301 12558110 or C301 12558HO cant tell which. It also has these little colored paint pen marks on the what I think it the crank trigger. On the front timing chain cover area. Each is like a little different colored dots. One is white, one is yellow, one is green, the other is blue. In this same little area on the timing chain cover it has written the letters A O R I, kinda like a diagram. The engine has some other color paint pen marks around other connections. The only time I have seen this is when a engine has been dynoed. This looks like a brand new crate engine, but the person I got it from claims it has been stroked. Its is fuel injected, but thats all I know. Also other than getting some beakers is there any other way of finding out how many cubic inchs it is?
Thanks in advance....

I had the engine block number wrong, its 12556110 which is the 8.1L GEN VII Vortec 8100.....

O.K. - This brings me up to another question, maybe for the GM techs. I have a 2002 Chevy Avalanche with the 5.3. It really aint enough to pull the drag car around. How much would I have to go through to swap these two engines?

WHAT WAS MISSING WAS, HOW ABOUT NEXT SUNDAY OR NEXT WEEK.. I DON'T THINK THE GUYS ARE QUITE READY FOR "RATDADDY. FROM THE LAST FEW PASSES I SEEN IF THEY ARE NOT READY FOR RAT THEY ARE VERY CLOSE!~
