Subject: Normally I'm eternally optimistic- but now getting a little bummed out

In reply to: *** 's message, "Per the "Western US Regional Oireachtas" Facebook page: Moved to Jan. 16-18, 2021. Nothing at all about whether it will be a qualifier." on 20:04:39 09/06/20 Sun

Nassau County AOH feis has been cancelled. Haven't heard any word about any concrete plans for the O- venue/state/number of days, etc.- with the event only a couple months away (if they keep the same weekend as usual).

Starting to seriously wonder if this is going to happen for our kids. Not looking forward to having this particular talk with my child if it is cancelled. DD has been working overtime during the quarantine and is still working hard even though school has started.

Her long term goal this whole time has been geared towards the O- it's simple - she wants to get a better result this year than last.

I know (in theory) that she should be working to better herself as a dancer in general - set smaller achievable goals, etc.---BUT she is a kid that loves and thrives on competition- and not having that competition has been tough- so the competition goal is really what drives her to continue -even in the midst of a pandemic. I'm guessing she is not alone in this.

I also know that events can happen safely with proper restrictions and guidelines- And we all know that large-ish feiseanna have run in the US without gaining the dreaded superspreader status.

I guess I'm just really worried that the NE is not going to pursue all possible avenues to try to make the O happen... to include looking at capacity driven NE states (Hi there NH!) and maybe even look outside of the NE for venues (Hello NJ!). It would be a real bummer to see successful Oireachtas happen all around us- and not have the same option for our kids.

Vent over. (thanks for reading)

In the last few weeks, Western Canada has moved to January, Western US has moved to January. Mid America has found a new venue in Indianapolis. I'm guessing that if other regions manage to pull it off, NER is going to look REALLY bad if we can't figure out how to do it. Imagine 6 out of 7 regions holding an Oireachtas and only NER can't manage it? I think the fact that other regions are going forward is going to make NER double the efforts. My guess is that we will also move to January.

Question - does anyone think there will be traditional sets this year? Excited to hear that there is a general plan in place

I hope at least a limited number of Trads can happen- so many kids only have the opportunity to do the O because of Trads- but I do understand the need to keep numbers down.
