Subject: Just wondered if anyone's heard about upcoming Feis's in New England? Seems we are the only region not hosting one and hoping someone knows if there are plans.

[> [> [> Subject: Yes - but NH has lower restrictions. When you look at the other sports being played - outside and inside MA - it makes no sense that we aren't feising. Just sad. There was even a large ice skating competition in MA the last few weeks. Why is dance so different & no one is doing anything to salvage it? I hope things change soon for the sake of our kids and the sport.

Even in MA you see soccer, field hockey, lacrosse every weekend - kids getting MUCH closer than they would if feising...Again NO BLAME. But hoping we can work together to find some positive solutions. ;)

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: I don't see that happening. In a normal year our school hosts more than one feis. We don't make much money on them, but as long as costs are covered we're happy to do this for the ID community. However if we barely broke even in normal years, what do you imagine would happen in a year like this when we can't have the normal number of entrants, are likely to struggle for volunteers, have the challenge of bringing in judges, etc.?

For whatever reason, NE isn't doing this outside or in - even though places exist for outdoor feising. O seems worrisome too...hoping we aren't the only region missing out on that either....

The fact that he is currently at Walter Reed and likely a patient zero for a super spreader event is not a surprise for anyone watching the science and his behavior for the last 6 months.

masking, physical distancing and taking this seriously (even when doing small feiseanna) is what has allowed the NE to remain in a "safe" zone of positivity rates.

you can have a small covid-19 protocol driven feis and not have the same results as are happening in the current administration.

[ Post a Reply to This Message ]
[> [> [> Subject: I don't see how to make that financially viable for any school. We put on more than 1 feis per year. While we do run in the black we don't make much. That was pre-covid with normal registration numbers. I don't see how it could be done without losing money with the low numbers you'd have during covid. You speak of multiple NE feiseanna having taken place during the pandemic. Where were these? I know only of the Murray School Feis, to which a very small number of outside friends were invited.

Our region includes the Western quadrant of Pennsylvania to Kansas and North Dakota with every state in between. Kansas City and Minnesota hosted a couple of feises and Pittsburgh, PA is hosting feises, but aside from that, every feis except one has been cancelled (the Cincinnati Feis next month is being held in Northern Kentucky and it is extremely scaled down.) One of the Pittsburgh feises is a reschedule from March with no new registrations (they didn't refund anyone's money). Please don't think that the lack of feis opportunities in N. England is due to schools not stepping up to the plate. Covid has caused so many limitations, so venues are hard to come by. My daughter hasn't been to a feis since late February and we live in Cincinnati, Ohio, where we typically have 30+ feises within a 4.5 drive area (many within a two hour drive). It's been a strange year!
