Subject: SRO Qualifier?

How is the SRO a National and World Qualifier? I thought if not all O's were able to be held, none of them would be considered qualifiers? The Midwest was not. How is that fair to kids in regions whose O's were cancelled?

[> Subject: Hoping to answer your question. I've not seen anything in writing that CLRG stated if any Oireachtas can't be held, none of them would count. What I have seen is taken from the Worlds syllabus (see inside)

It will be necessary for all solo competitors participating in Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne 2021 to have qualified
at a Regional or National Oireachtas in 2019, a Regional Oireachtas 2020 or at Oireachtas Rince na hÉireann
2020 or 2021. (See page 18, rule 2)

To qualify to take part in any solo championship a dancer must:
(a) Have won first place in a solo championship (in any age group) at Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne 2019, or
(b) Have participated in the appropriate championship at his/her Regional Oireachtas and either (i)
qualified automatically as a consequence of having been placed in a medal winning position in any solo
championship at Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne 2019 or (ii) achieved a qualifying place in his/her Regional
Oireachtas or

then further clarifies

6. A Regional Council may, with the formal sanction of An Coimisiún require dancers to compete in solo
competitions on the Regional Oireachtas syllabus additional to the championship events in order to fulfil the
participation requirement referred to in Rule 2 above.

[> [> [> Subject: I think it means that if your region holds a qualifying Oireachtas, wq's must attend in order to compete at Worlds. They can send in a request (like a dr's note for injury) to not dance, but must be registered in order to keep their spot.

[> Subject: I read on another Voy board that there's a rule for the Os that if any part of a region is under a travel or quarantine ban that would keep dancers from that area from attending their O, then the O cannot be a qualifier. Because part of the Mid-America region was under such constraints, their O was not a qualifier. The SRO should not have been one either imho because DC is under these restrictions, but the SRO chose to ignore that and declare themselves a qualifier. Interesting logic.

[> [> [> Subject: We loved ID. I still have many friends involved and I keep up with their progress. I’ve been known to attend an event or two myself since my daughter retired as I truly love the dancing and the joy of younger dancers especially as they achieve their goals. Do I miss the politics? The bullshit rules and how they are interpreted? Corrupt judges? Nope!
