] Date Posted: 15:48:46 03/20/21 Sat In reply to: not good but accurate 's message, "People angry about New England on the voy main board. https://www.voy.com/60473/" on 21:26:01 03/19/21 Fri From a planning perspective that makes great sense! Yes it's much easier to distance people by lowering the cap limits and spreading comps out over 2 days BUT realistically that actually DOUBLES many of the expenses to run the event (2 days of venue fees, paying judges and musicians for 2 days, 2 days of hotels and meals for judges and musicians, etc etc etc). Combine that with a lot less revenue by having much fewer dancers registered and it makes things SO much more difficult from a financial perspective. And no, feis committees are NOT out there to "just make money"...the money brought in goes toward running the event (or next year's event) and often to pay for storage fees for the year (stages have to go somewhere right?). Nobody is making a profit here. I hope that all makes sense! Cheers! [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
[> Subject: If venues and finances are a problem here, why not run more virtual feiseanna? The systems are already in place and margins seem quite high, and the demand for the last one was strong. I don't really understand the argument against it, even though I know some dislike virtual. Better than nothing.

[> [> [> Subject: The fact that no one is doing one makes it seem like there is a problem with this solution. BTW, I'd be more than happy to help our school do this, but there's only so much a parent can do if the TC doesn't want to.

[> [> Subject: I respect the issues with cost described by a previous poster, but again - how are regions like Mid-Atlantic doing this? Ask them perhaps? I do see many MA feis are using local judges, which can help with costs. There are also plenty of venues outside & inside that are looking for business and would discount.

[> [> [> Subject: Online is NOT the answer for MANY reasons - let's just let that ship sail..not to mention I read the hosting fees alone were WAY more expensive than an in person.
